State of the Campaign

I think I have to accept that I am trying to do too much.

Not from a stress standpoint or anything, but my computer just can't keep up. It needs some upgrades, and I am hoping to maybe do some of those around Christmas.

A good example of what I am talking about it is yesterday and today's content. So I setup four sets of Before and After pinups between Saturday and Sunday, as well as the 4k pinups for Maya.

That is a significant amount of content. However, that content is just taking too long to render. The 4k pinups for Maya are probably the best example of that. There are six renders, and they are averaging about 5 hours per image. So that's 30 hours of render time.

Similarly, twenty pages for a comic take about 20 hours of rendering. Well there's only twenty-four hours in a day, as you well know, so that only leaves me about four hours in a day to setup those images. And frankly, it usually takes me longer than that to setup twenty pages.

The point is, it takes roughly a day to produce 20 pages. It takes roughly a day to produce a set of pinups, whether it's pinups, Before/After pinups, a single animation, or 4k images.

Right now my schedule includes: 20 pages for Wednesday, 60 pages for Saturday, a set of pinups, and an animation or 4k images. That's six days of render time if everything goes perfectly. That doesn't even include time to setup that content, or to write and post-work that content.

There have been times that I have produced more than that, which is why I thought I could keep up that pace. But that was a situation where things were just rendering faster for various reasons: simpler environment, simpler comic, or any number of other factors.

In addition, my computer is getting slower. It's five years old or more at this point. My drives are getting full. Scenes take longer to load. And render times are not getting shorter. It needs some upgrades, which I am hoping to do in December.

So I am just going to have to accept that I need to produce less content for a while. I am not exactly sure how I am going to do that. Whether I will stop doing 4k pinups and animations for a bit, as they take insane amounts of time to render, or if I will keep the variety of content and do fewer comic pages every week.

I haven't decided. I would really like to know your opinion!

I suspect, however, that you came here for the comics. So they should stay, and other content should be cut back.
