Chapter 1,208.

The door closed behind the two guests, stirring a gentle wind that sang a melody of Dao within the garden. The flowers stilled, leaving Iz alone with her thoughts.

"He's found a companion. I'm not confident she's fated, but I'm happy he's happy," Iz said, ignoring the worried look from her advisor. "Did you see how tired he was?"

"I did."

"Is it really worth it? Protecting the lives of the unfated."

"There is no right or wrong answer to that, miss."

"Will his hard work amount to anything? The providence of this sector has all but dried up."

"Their performance is too wretched. The general trend has been set despite the best efforts of Young Miss's friend. The Heavens have already abandoned this region. The interwar will be over in two months at most."

"It's impossible?"

"I wouldn't dare say so when that young man is involved. I have never seen a providence like his. If Young Miss and the other candidates are radiant stars, then he's a black hole."

Iz wasn't surprised. There had always been something odd about his providence since the first time they met. It was nowhere near what she sensed today. She didn't need Salou's unique vision to understand Zac had undergone a tremendous change since she left for training.

The curiosity was almost unbearable, to the point she briefly regretted giving back the mirror to her Grandpa. However, the memory of Zac standing alone, broken and exhausted, after dealing with the energy golem from the Lost Plane quashed those feelings. He'd become too real, making it impossible to use his struggles as entertainment.

Iz felt embarrassed and anxious over the matter, fearing he'd see the truth in her eyes or piece together her excuses. Couldn't he have exploited their name a bit more to level the imbalance? Aunty Valissa had suggested giving him some treasures or testing the fate of his enemies to alleviate the guilt. Iz felt it was the wrong way to go about things.

Now, there was another complication to the tangle in her heart. It looked like her guardian couldn't hold back any longer.

"Young miss, are you truly letting him leave like this? Ignoring his status as a Flamebearer is one thing, but he's encroaching on the exalted one's Authority. The family rules are very clear on how to deal with any attack on the Empyrean Throne."

"That man always brings surprises," Iz sighed. "Just how did he get marked? Is it part of a bigger tapestry?"

"Any such violation should be nipped in the bud. He's weak now, but he gives me a bad feeling. Like he holds a seed of our downfall."

"Is it your Third Eye?" Iz asked, getting a hesitant shrug in response. "Grandma can take care of herself. And I'm not convinced this is a bad thing."

"Is young miss thinking of bringing him into the family to richen the blood?"

"It would be interesting to see what would happen. The Empyrean Quadrant is very quiet and uneventful," Iz said with a slight smile. "But no, I'm talking about something else. You said he's encroaching on our Throne, but you could argue it's the other way around. The mark on him is ancient."

"Ancient?" Salou said, his eyes flickering. "Is Young Miss referring to the Templars of the Flame? Then, there's even more reason to sever his fate."

"I will do no such thing. Zac is a friend, and killing him will not release Emperor Evrodok's hold on Grandma's Throne. It's only a weak mark now, but given time…"

"He might seize or destroy the fragment of ancient Authority," Salou said, slowly nodding in agreement. "I'm sorry, miss. I was shortsighted. But shouldn't you have informed him if you wanted his help? He might not know he's being targeted by the remnants of the Empire."

"His mark was tenuous at best. I think he's wavering on whether he should accept the Empyrean Flame or not. I don't want to influence his decision or path," Iz said. "Fate cannot be forced—we'll let it run its course. It does not seem ready to materialize just yet, but I believe Ultom will give us an answer."

"He might become your enemy."

"He promised to send some good chaos our way," Iz said with a smile. "I am willing to take a bet on him. I will face the outcome head-on, no matter what it is."

"I will have to report this matter to Lord Mohzius. I believe he'll agree with your assessment," Salou said. "Fate truly works in mysterious ways. To think a chance encounter in an F-grade trial would culminate into such convoluted threads of fate."

"I think it's much too soon to say culminate with that troublemaker involved," Iz smiled.

"What does young miss think about his suggestion?"

"What will happen to this sector when it's deemed unfated?"

"If it were another enemy than the Black Heart Cult, the System would have handed the sector over and closed the matter. It would keep the Space Gate open for a set number of years or directly fuse the sectors, depending on performance. With such a resounding victory, I'd guess the latter."

"It won't do so for heretics, even if they're integrated?"

"Not if it can find a way around it that doesn't break its operational rules. The System generally picks one of two approaches. One, it'll give a neighboring sector a chance to take over after the heretics have been given a minimum window of plunder. Second, it'll abandon the sector on the basis of lacking energy and potential."

"Discorporation," Iz muttered with a slight frown.

"It's the most likely outcome. The connection with the fifth pillar will likely influence the System's operations somehow, though. It will not do anything before that chapter has concluded."

"Then it's settled. If Mister Bug is planning to go to the Imperial Graveyard, that's where we have to be," Iz smiled. "He is planning something big. I can't wait to see if he can overturn the fate of a whole sector."

--------------------------

'This way, miss,' the bobbing flame said.

"One second," Catheya answered. "You're really okay with me staying?"

"Of course. Just be careful. Talk with Kruta to make sure you don't break any unspoken rules."

"I know how to carry myself," Catheya winked before lowering her voice. "What do you think about what she said?"

"There's not much point in worrying about Authorities and marks. I think she'd have said something if they posed a risk to my life."

"It's not like we could do anything about them even if we know they were there," Catheya agreed. "Still, we don't know the full picture. There might be dangers we're still not aware of."

Zac understood what Catheya meant. She was reminding him not to take the information at face value. Iz had only provided a brief overview to explain the concept, but how could a few sentences encapsulate the abilities of Supremacies? Whether it was because of family rules or other limitations, there was much that remained unsaid.

The biggest concern was whether Supremacies could track their marks. He'd felt somewhat safe thanks to his combination of anti-Karma capabilities and Void bloodline. It would be easier said than done to track him down if he escaped into the Eternal Storm or another region of the Multiverse. But those maneuvers were useless if he carried around a tracking signal directly connected to the Dao.

"What did she give you?"

"Take a look," Zac said, taking out the information crystal.

"Are you sure?"

"It's not a problem. I'll probably share this with Kator anyhow. No matter what undercurrents are stirring in the Empire, they're unlikely to take action before they know the outcome of the trial. This information gives us a chance to survive long enough for him to betray us."

"I hate that such a gloomy outlook sounds reasonable," Catheya said and took the crystal. "So many powerful people. Those Flamebearers, especially. I don't think Kator alone can deal with them alone, let alone us."

"We always suspected the waters were deeper than we could see. Outsiders have been entering Zecia and Zurbor for two years. Some didn't join the Intersector War. Others kept their movements hidden. Now we have names and faces, at least, and the flamebearers should be aiming for the Left Imperial Palace."

"So long as it's not a slaughter trial," Catheya sighed.

Zac nodded in agreement. That was his worry, too. The biggest risk to his people is if there were a component slaughter like the Eastern Trigram Hunt. Their being uninterested in the Eternal Heritage wouldn't matter if killing other candidates improved one's fate with Ultom and the Left Imperial Palace.

His current strength still wasn't enough to win against Yselio without relying on his bloodline breakthrough or outside assistance, let alone kill him. He might be able to fight to a draw, provided Yselio had shown all his cards in their previous fight. However, the three Flamebearers on Iz's list were clearly stronger than the Imperial Prince. Escaping with his life intact was the best outcome if he fought today.

One was the direct descendant of someone called the Centigrade Pryer. Iz had only provided a brief introduction, explaining that the Pryer was an ancient elemental who'd achieved pseudo-immortality like the Primo. The descendant's level was a question mark, but the report said the unique elemental race were all monstrously talented. It was estimated the young Pryer would have four Earthly Daos on top of their other ungodly advantages.

Another candidate was the Holy Daughter of a terrifying Insectoid species. The report said each generation's Matriarch wielded the strength to fight to a draw with most Thrones or Seals, and the Holy Daughter was picked to take over a few million years. How could someone like that be normal?

The third Flamebearer had the shortest introduction, mentioning neither gender nor race. Their name was Eouso, and they came from something called the Pesvati Rift in the Eternal Storm. Zac had never heard of it, but any unintegrated faction that dared contend for opportunities directly related to the System had to be extremely powerful.

"Are you okay?" Zac asked when he saw Catheya's look.

"I'm fine. It's just that it's all becoming very real, very fast now that I'm back. I always knew the trial would be dangerous, but it's another thing now that there are names and faces to the competition. Do you think Iz can get it? The Eternal Heritage?"

"She has the qualifications. I couldn't gauge her strength at all this time. She might have already stepped into Late D-grade," Zac slowly said, not worried about the flame listening in. "Then again, Iz succeeding would only be the first step. The Tayns would have to defend the prize. I'm sure some old monsters are just waiting for the dust to settle and rob the winners rather than muck about with the trial."

"At least the matter will be out of our hands at that point," Catheya smiled, clasping Zac's hand. "I cannot believe we only got half a day to ourselves."

"Maybe we'll get some time to ourselves in the Imperial Graveyard," Zac said helplessly. "Just give me a call if you want to go back, and I'll figure out a way to pick you up."

"Go, do your thing," Catheya grinned. "I'll see if I can find some answers here. It's an interesting juxtaposition after spending the last years in a world of ice and a reminder of why I've chosen this path."

Zac made his way back from the castle after saying his goodbyes. His safe exit from the burning mountain was enough deterrence to prevent any of the lingering Hegemons from having any ideas. He spent an hour getting updates and reading reports before returning to the Ensolus Ruins.

He passed five shell-shocked soldiers hurrying toward the temples on his way. The addition of almost 100 soldiers had added some life to the training camp, though it still gave off a desolate air. Eventually, he found himself at the entrance to the Halls of Service.

His human side had kept training all the while, having already emerged from the raw energy bath and returning a day later. The only difference from the norm was he'd swapped out the more strenuous exercises with things that wouldn't incapacitate his Draugr half. Rava would no doubt make him pay back for lost time, but the day off was definitely worth it.

Zac looked into the sky. He could vaguely see a river of providence connecting the Ensolus Ruins with the distance—the Imperial Graveyard or perhaps the pillar itself. Catheya was right. It all felt more real now that everyone was back and everything was in place. He only had two more weeks to prepare. He'd better make it count.

"There is a lingering aura of flowers and powerful flames on you. One of the outsiders you mentioned?"

"A friend of mine just returned to Zecia, so I visited her before I had to return," Zac said, glancing at Rava, who had appeared to his right.

"A friend…? No wonder."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"You have the aura of a man who's fought a fierce battle. But to think your Obsidian-eyed companion wasn't enough. Being young and full of vigor is natural, but do not forget what's important."

"That's not—" Zac coughed. "I have a question. Does the repository have any information on Authority that I can exchange for merit? I should have some left over after going through the schedule."

"Why concern yourself with the matters of Deities and Godkings? You're just an Evolved Lord. Your glory points are better off spent on strengthening yourself."

Autarchs in the pre-system era were referred to as Celestials, with each stage having its own name like the stages of Hegemony. Zac guessed that meant Deities were the name for Supremacies. Godkings were likely something even greater. He recalled Rava calling Joanna's master Godking Eyler.

Zac had tried figuring out what that meant during his short visits to the repository, but he was only able to research his own subjects during his very brief breaks. He had a better idea after meeting Iz, though. A Godking should either be a Supremacy who'd extended their Authority beyond their Heavenly Territory or one who'd seized a slot of Utmost Authority.

"I just learned I've been marked by two Undead Supremacies, possibly more," Zac explained. "I want to understand what dangers I'm facing, if they can use the marks to control or track me."

Rava spoke after a few moments of thought.

"Don't waste your time in the repository. Authority only has a marginal impact on the masses—not even Deities can dictate the will of the Heavens. It is easier if you think of Authority as the final stage of Dao, and not as a special ability. The Dao is boundless, but only one cultivator can control the full extent of each expression. Someone reaching the limits of a path but lacking Authority will exhibit a fifth of its strength at best. Few had the luxury of wielding the full Authority of their Dao in my era. I believe it's even more difficult today.

"You have little reason to worry about the marks left on you. Even a Godking would have a difficult time tracking down its chosen through a mark alone. Your unique bloodline and Void Destiny will make it even harder, if not impossible. Frankly, I doubt anyone would be willing to try even if you ran off with the whole pillar."

Zac didn't understand why Rava was suddenly so accommodating after stonewalling him for over a week, but he wasn't about to ruin things with questions.

"The Heavens is not a servant. Using it as such will cause a backlash and trigger a premature tribulation. If unlucky, pieces of Authority they worked a million years on seizing will escape their grasp."

That was a load off his shoulders. The threat of facing a tribulation or crippling backlash would keep the Primo and everyone else on their best behavior in these critical times.

"Of course, there are exceptions to everything," Rava added. "I recall a Holy Relic from a previous Era that could accomplish such a feat without drawing the ire of the Heavens."

"Those things can't be very common," Zac muttered before looking at Rava with suspicion. "What's changed?"

"My job is to teach you and ensure you're ready for whatever fate has in store. I believe this knowledge might be part of that."

It was obviously not the truth, but Zac still felt the information was accurate.

"I've been thinking. I want to go through the Endless Crusade before I leave."

"You're not ready."

Zac looked at the river of providence a final time before stepping into the halls.

"Everything worthwhile comes at a price. And I might not be ready now, but I still have two weeks."

Comments

Where is Chapter 1,207? It goes from 1,206 to 1,208. And why are the chapters out of order? They follow the sequence for a few chapters, then skip ahead by about 20 or so. The only way to find the next chapter is to use the search function.

Greymantle

I wouldn't mind zac and iz but I would prefer of he broke up with cathea first. We know zac is going to have to merge his bodies at some point and I don't really like multiple partners.

Jacob Friebis

training montage time

rene kaminawash

Thx for the chapter

Kconraw

I wonder if both body’s go on a trial together. Could be a good time to get that experience under such good tutelage

Dominic Fox

This “Holy Daughter”? I can just see her and Zac meeting up for a fight…then she falls madly in love with Ibtep. Because tasty grubs.

Jeff McCulley

Editing issue when he rewrites sentences.

Jeff McCulley

It is one of TFD weak points.

Lex Luther S

They are yin and yang. It fits perfect. And the Taynes protection of Earth would be awesome

Josh Sabo

I've been on the Zac and Iz ship since the void star arc. It just seems to line up way to perfectly. Iz and her obscene talent and godly affinities becoming the wife and dao partner of someone with absolutely Zero affinities yet greater attainment in cultivation then even the greatest heavens chosen, only matched by the monsters like Kator and above. A princess of a facrion that controls a corner of the heavens becoming the wife of a barbarian born in the wilds just fits very well. Besides, let's be honest, after reading this chapter again after the current events that have unfolded, it's blatantly clear Iz and those of her talent and level are the only ones with even a shred of hope in surviving zacs fate and providence. His providence was already like a black hole and now I'm sure it's been cranked up a few more notches after he survived the atavism.

Lex Luther S

One of main things that throws me out of the story is the repetition of words in the same sentence, this one manages to do it three times, lol "I don't think Kator alone can deal with them alone, let alone us.""

Shale MacGregor

Anyone else begging TFD to make Iz and Hunan Zac a thing. We need that.

Josh Sabo

So she wants him to abuse her family's name so she can sink her claws in :)

Havics Child

I don't think Kator alone can deal with them alone, let alone us. 🤪

Thenais

Now, there was another complication to the tangle in her heart -> oh my !

Thenais

He'd become too real, making it impossible to use his struggles as entertainment. -> liar 🤥

Thenais

Quantity isn’t the problem. Mostly, I’m objecting to Catheya as a permanent partner. And “societal norms” isn’t the problem, either. The problem is that Zac Atwood is blatantly obviously a monogamous guy. He fixates on one woman. He’s not gonna suddenly turn into a polygamist, or turn polyamorous, however you want to phrase it. One personality, one soul, one gal. Now, “sequentially” might prove to be a totally different matter.

Jeff McCulley

Looking at the list of Flamebearers… I wonder if Eouso is going to become his potential love interest of this particular bunch? At the least, a guide into the Eternal Storm, where he needs to go anyway.

Jeff McCulley

She’s not oblivious. She’s just uncomplicated and honest enough that she genuinely is happy. And that’s not necessarily how things will stay.

Jeff McCulley

“And the Holy Daughter was picked to take over a few million years” …take over IN a few million years…

Jeff McCulley

I take it back, Iz is surprisingly sweet.

David Giles

I see what you mean, but I think he also needs time to shore up his foundations. Some boredom won't be the end of him. Even if he's some godly level entity, they spend millenia just chilling sometimes. I think him relaxing and recuperating for a couple years would do good for everyone on earth.

TKOva

I note that both didn’t shut down getting together when asked.

Thenais

I know right!?

RGrocks

yea I will go to sleep and read in the morning

Tomer Yud

Man these ch have been getting late.

Lex Luther S

I'm sure she has a little test that could clear things right up!

Porter

Would be great.

Porter

Yeah, one of the visions in the Trial of Faith was of a single Hegemon taking out 10 Monarchs, so I imagine Zac will be able to stand up to at least the weaker Zecia Monarchs by the time the Ultom Courts arc is over.

Chase C

by that time! Iz will be pregnant. lol

Amani

"He's found a companion. I'm not confident she's fated, but I'm happy he's happy," says every girl that's Jealous but oblivious to their feelings.

Amani

That likely won't happen till zac find himself in their specific quadrant face to face with her gramps hand in hand with Iz.

Lex Luther S

Well, given the next stage is called an Earthly Dao, we can summerize the stage for Autarchs being heavenly dao as they're making a ladder to heaven while supremacies dao is likely just called supreme dao or simply dao given they're at the end of the road for their path.

Lex Luther S

I would like to put in a request! When Zac returns from either the Imperial Graveyard or the Pillar, would it be possible to dedicated a single chapter to give the blue skygnome a massive heart demon just from going trough the massive amount of loot Zacs unparalelled luck will get him? Its been to long since the blue bastard have questioned his choices in life!!

Kharas

Oh it is absolutely gonna be a slaugther trial. Does anyone really expect anything else? Come on, you should know better.

Johnny_B

It sounds a bit like the Templars held the throne in lieu of the Emperor since he can only hold one himself? Maybe if Zac can make the Authority his own he can somehow make the Tayn claim more complete. Sound like an ideal way to tie himself more to them. Iz not outright dimissing the suggestion of marrying Zac is also interesting and seems to point towards that end.

Johnny_B

Jeff: Im well aware that both of Zac’s bodies share the same consciousness. As I said, both love interests are still an option. There is some presumption, likely rooted in our current tolerance of societal norms, that Zac should be restricted to a single lady in this fantastical multiverse. Maybe he shouldn’t and maybe they’d all be on the same page about that and not have an issue.

Chris

Once he reaches Late or Peak Hegemony, he should at least be able to handle weak Monarchs. Also with the Tayns involved, that may be enough of a deterrent.

Johnny_B

“Being young and full of vigor is natural, but do not forget what's important.” Rava saying the right things to move up the rankings of fave background character! Zac = deviant Asura to the maximum

Tommy

A « gravity, fuck you !» reward

Thenais

I more meant if they will manage to use the opportunity that Zac will provide and survive and maybe even Loot the other sector a bit.

Orims

Now, if he release something that the Limitless empire called "Foreign gods" and classified as some sort of weapon of mass destruction.. Unless they have some way to only kill the heart curses over a large area, then the collateral damage from them kicking out the Kan´Tanu from the Zecia cector, might just end up being large parts of the Zecia sector :) So if its truly safe in that situation is a good question. But you might be right. Its for sure gonna be interesting to follow :)

Kharas

How is Zac going to handle all the monarchs one the ultom trial is over and he gets 1-2 sectors? Do we forsee him hitting monarch by the end? Autarchs can't easily stay in the frontier so visiting autarchs and all the ancient monarchs is going to be his issue after ultom. Which most likely the adventure will split from here with half going to into uninterested space on his mom's mission and the other to the abyssal shores. Although I always thought that his bodies would merge at monarch.

Kaladin

. "I recall a Holy Relic from a previous Era that could accomplish such a feat without drawing the ire of the Heavens." A certain mirror ?

Thenais

« Poor mister bug, he is so tired » 😏 thirsty cat 😏

Thenais

Sure! Its like, um... a crusade? and it never ends? yes it goes on and on my friends... some people start crusading it, not knowing what it was, but it goes on forever cuz that's what endless does... ? Its the endless crusade that never ends! I'm like pretty sure anyways...

Reed Icculus

Maybe Dao species or Dao forest

Jesse Bruce

Two different paths (evolutionary vs inexorable) though which probably translates to two different mindsets for each modum operandi at least for now. I don’t think it’s crazy unless they are both with Iz and Catheya at once. I think I can mental gymnastics this into them being on the lowest end of the spectrum for a multiple personality experience, although you are correct that they are the same person far more than an actual person with multiple personality disorder.

Palmer Evans

Dao seeds, Dao branches, does that mean Authority is the Dao trunk?

Scott Mingo

Wonder how long it will be until Granny Tayn decides to test Zac's fate herself. She'll want to see if he's good enough for Iz, after all.

Scott Mingo

Zac doesn’t need decades of downtime. He’s been burning the candle (NOT Little Candle) at both ends since they activated the two companies, and the last week has been pushing it even more to complete training before he’s off with Kator If he makes it to the Abyssal Shores after Ultom, a few weeks of relative peace and quiet should be sufficient. And if not, the time on Yhelion traveling on the mission for his sister will more than do. Remember, on his three year break to shore up his foundations, he was bored silly. Aside, of course, from boning Thea.

Jeff McCulley

It doesn’t say that it’s the *only* throne that Limitless had a claim on.

Jeff McCulley

I think that he gets to it when everyone else is paying attention elsewhere, tags it as his own—and then it vanishes, perhaps to one of “his” Mystic Realms. Everyone else is confused, then just assumes that the LIP will appear in another sector in another phase of the quest. After all, the ancient “seniors” we’ve seen talking have referred to “this” stage being for the youngsters, and there have been references to them moving to various sectors of the multiverse.

Jeff McCulley

Or if Iz became a member of the Atwood Clan.

Jeff McCulley

Honestly TFD is setting it up way to noticeably that zac will end up with three dao companions by the end. One for his dao of conflict. One for his dao of life and another for his dao of death. And it's looking alea will be the one for conflict.

Lex Luther S

Good find. She also specifically keyed into his mentioning that he got marked with the Four Laws by a machine built by the Limitless Empire. But with the context of knowing he has a mark of the Empyrean Flame, it also sounds like she suspects he got the mark from that, too.

DrSubterfuge

Well, Iz said she's not confident catheya is fated but given zacs strength and will to make fate malleable, it likely won't matter what fate dictates. Though as catheya stated she'd rather live interesting than die boring and that's some facts right there.

Lex Luther S

Zecia is already forever changed even if the war stopped and the Kan Tanu just left

Russell Widger

"She ain't fated" - coldest insult this era, by Iz

xlinkedx

They can operate 'independently', but it's ONE MIND controlling both bodies. It's JUST Zac. They aren't separate entities.

xlinkedx

Thank you for the chapter!

Ryan Pepp

They both operate independently. It was mentioned just a couple of chapters ago that they were just fine at independent action, it just rarely makes sense to be that way.

Luke Scheffe

If Zac becomes a part of the Tayn clan both Iz and Zac would have access to the heritage

Russell Widger

I don't think it has been mentioned what it is yet

Russell Widger

Thanks for the chapter.

Joshua Little

can someone remind me what is the endless crusade?

monkiez

Chris: Because despite how many times it’s been repeated, people here haven’t figured out they really are the same person. Basically when one body is actually doing stuff, the other has always been meditating, soaking in a tub, or otherwise minimally aware stuff. There really aren’t two Zacs for two women.

Jeff McCulley

Catheya doesn’t have to die for Zac to figure out that she’s not fated.

Jeff McCulley

Heh. I had to look back at last chappy: "You have multiple marks on you. One should be from Lord Primo himself. From another, I sense ancient, suffocating darkness closely matching your bloodline." Iz never said there were only two, did she? “One, and then “another”, not “the other”. She very carefully skipped mentioning the Templar stuff in front of Catheya.

Jeff McCulley

four Earthly Daos… wow! That was a “oh yeah we’re screwed” moment. Two weeks boot camp.

Amani

Yeah I read the chapter then go to the comments for Lex

Jay Fowler

She doesn’t need to die. Why not both? One for Life Zac one for Death Zac.

Chris

I'm not talking overall kill count. I'm talking kill count from just the Twilight Forest trial. It's not possible to calculate Zac's actual kill count. Bare minimum the war has pushed it into the trillions.

Darnell Maxwell

Zac kill count is in the billions at a minimum. The butcher title he got in book1 was kill a million. Killed 100000 undead just to purify his core in 5 minutes! He had destroy a million souls for a skill in the Orom world. The 10 year all the vastness realms were mostly slaughter. I guarantee billions. Hell the spear activation might have made it trillions!

Salvo

Zecia is gonna become Zacia whether Lord Atwood wants it or not.

Telewyn

He’d drop it instantly if he ended up with it. Zecia can’t even handle the C-Grade KanTanu sector. Can you imagine if Tayn equivalent Quadrants descended on them.

Henry Wartemberg

Not sure where you're getting that from. We don't have any idea what her goal is. Something something Terminus maybe. And holding a Throne that used to belong to the Limitless Emperor himself doesn't make the Tayns her allies. If anything it's the opposite. They even have a protocol to kill anyone with competing sources of Authority, and especially singled out the Templars.

DrSubterfuge

Lol heck ya got hashing that #IZ for best Girl, 2024!

night hawk

Do you see a situation where earth and ensolus get teleported to her home sector of space? (Zac has a move planet reward provided he has been there, not sure of sector limits)

Salvo

The world and c grade heart curses? If Zac holds to form, the Foreign Gods go nom, nom, nom. The fact is that the whole heart curse thing literally came from an Imperial Graveyard, after all. So either Zac will find a solution there, or Rava might be able to point a direction.

Jeff McCulley

Nope. She’s being helpful because she just saw Iz for the first time, and realizes there is now a far better avenue to and chance of accomplishing her goals

Jeff McCulley

“…the Holy Daughter was picked to take over a few million years.” Missing an “IN a million years”

Jeff McCulley

Perhaps that is a literal seed of the apocalypse?

Matthew Hay

Called it, new Iz’s 6 winged form and the Templar Autarch’s final attack attack against the swarm were related.

Jeffrey Worrall

Book 11, Ch 24 is the start of the encounter. Title: Qriz'ul King.

Matthew Hay

Don't give up Iz!! There's every chance that Catheya ends up dead during Zac's inevitable conflict with the Undead Empire, and then you can test your fate against Zac's as much as you'd like! Iz for Best Girl, 2024!

xlinkedx

Training montage!

James Faulkner

He will likely get it if his faction is one day fated to become one of the top factions in the multiverse. Most of them have a heritage.

Dylan Alexander

Kind of would have to be insightful to take that moniker...Lex is no simple minded fella. Also, ditto...I don't contribute a lot, but love reading the comments.

JaykeTheGeek

Dear god, I could definitely do without that Game of Thrones shit

Henry Wartemberg

Cheers to that man🍺🍻🍻🍺 I love discourse and talking theories and about chs, so I try to point at things of interest, and this ch alone was chooked full of info and even character development.

Lex Luther S

Well, given curses in the world are rare given it damages and drains the world core to grow, I doubt the kan'tanu have infected their planets with such curse though there might be C grade continent sized ones on the C grade planets, they're probably more array like and used for Defense than a conscience one. But even then, a few centuries without the specific nutrients the heart curses need and some monarchs tearing away at the curses and most will likely be gone save for those that infected world cores.

Lex Luther S

There's no evidence that all heart curses are connected to the pope's curse. They might have a common base, but each heart curse is it's own curse, though the ones in the planets might be a different story.

Lex Luther S

The twighlight decent was always either a dao trial or a combat trial as killing enemies gave a lot of points compared to Dao breakthroughs. As for this trial for Ultom being a slaughter trial, I feel that's just too basic. It's obvious none of zacs followers save for kruta and ogras and maybe joanna would be able to hold their own against the subordinates the other flamebearers brought along let alone kill them so it's why I feel the trial will lean more towards cooperation and getting through trials than an easy simple trial of slaughter. Though one of combat instead of slaughter may be at the end for the flamebearers.

Lex Luther S

I forgot his upcoming atavism trial, given a gift of pure oblivion and creation are bound to be something crazy. I was thinking 4 earthly daos was insane, especially when even the most talented seem to choose 3 branches.

orc

Indeed. I doubt it'll come to such a head where she's forced to choose between zac or her grandma and as Iz said, her grandmother can take care of herself. But it is true Iz giving up the mirror and feeling guilt over using it and seeing zacs adventures as entertainment is major character development for her. And her not feeling giving treasure or testing one of his enemies fate is the way to balance it is a perfect Segway into an Iz and Zac only arc to balance that fate.

Lex Luther S

Yes, that's what she's talking about. Iz calling it an Energy golem isn't wrong as it was made of pure energy and acting off instinct instead of intelligence like a cultivator.

Lex Luther S

I don't think he'll end up with it but he'll definitely edge the heritage and era towards Chaos. I'm betting he gets that potted plant Wal'Zo was caressing so long ago. Things a sapling despite being Billions of years old and it can't be anything simple.

Lex Luther S

Or the foreign gods he releases destroy the heretics so fully that Zecia is safe again.

Dylan Alexander

It’s funny that Zac still thinks that he won’t end up with the eternal heritage.

Dylan Alexander

The heart curses are all connected to the Pope. I imagine if the Pope’s curse is destroyed it will destroy all of the existing cultists and their curses.

Michael

Yes the 5th pillar is correct.

Lex Luther S

I think it was supposed to refer to the Uz'kril goblin. That was towards the end of the void gate ark. He had to create hollow chaos to destroy the gate to Lake water and that goblin at the same time.

Pascal Kwizera

Tower of eternity wasn't supposed to be a slaughter trial, Zac's inability to find alternate solutions is ultimately what capped his rank

Lucas Gulick

Thank you!

Andrew

At the end of their trip into the void star. It was the large portal goblin that was at the bottom of the lake. He sacrificed alot of his life energy to get it done and she pointed out that even though he could get his years back, or some of them, he could not get the potential back he had burned along side the years. She then gave him an item from some fancy tree that repaired alot of the damage and they were thrown out into the void when gemmy reformed her world without the corrupted parts.

Kharas

Really appreciate how pulpy these last few chapters have been; more flamebearers, what happens to Zecia if they loose. Iz giving up the mirror is REALLY great, Zac isn’t entertainment for her, but a real person risking everything all the time. Humanized her as well as showing the karmic debt it actually accrued. Heck, she might have to choose her grandmother over Zac is a very promising character arc.

Salvo

I wouldn’t be surprised if post Atavism he’s up to mixed-meaning Earthly Daos of Life/Creation and Death/Oblivion, or at least has the groundwork laid for doing that before the end of the trial. Depends a lot on what exactly his reward is going to be from the two Autarchs. Granted it isn’t even guaranteed that the System will whisk him off to them, but after waiting all this time for number five it would be pretty disappointing to wait even longer for him to visit them physically. I think we are also still waiting on the Void Mountain upgrade. All of that raises the ceiling on what he can do with Integration fighting in addition to what he can do with skills. (Well Void Mountain probably won't help with skills...yet at least.) Beyond that the graveyard and the LIP will undoubtedly have novel cultivation goodies that he can improve himself with. [Thousand Axe Avatar] or whatever it ends up being called being a big standout for potential growth.

DrSubterfuge

I just wanted to pop in and say I love reading your extended comment on every chapter. It always gets me thinking deeper into the chapter and you catch things I don't always catch. Thank you!

Blayne Allsen

What chapter did he fight the energy golem Iz was talking about I can't remember

Bradley Anderson

Zac, when have you ever been in a trial that wasn't one of slaughter? Even the dao trial you were in during the Twilight Forest turned into a slaughter one. Hell if we count all the people that died from you blowing up the mystic realm, your kill count might reach into the millions.

Darnell Maxwell

11/10 chapter

Axim

My only issue with that is what he'll do with all the heart curses? Especially the world and c grade ones.

Darnell Maxwell

This!

Jeff McCulley

Basically we were just told that if he trashes the Kan’Tanu bad enough so that they are no longer fated, he’s gonna wind up with TWO sectors that get blended.

Jeff McCulley

The endless crusade should help as well.

Luke Scheffe

For one thing, I’m guessing that half of them kill each other off…

Jeff McCulley

His Dao’s, Void Abilities, and Post Atavism Oblivion and Creation control should be key to keep up.

My my... Do the people seeing Iz as a future Dao companion have more to base their theories on than we have previously heard ;) ? "Now, there was another complication to the tangle in her heart" Iz thought about the whole situation. Sounds like some one aint quite as friendzoned as she could be. It sounds like Zecias time as a sector is over. Either Zac take over the whole damn thing when he is done with the trial or it gets split up. I think its abit to early for him to have a whole sector under his control since going from 2 planets to controlling what is in essence a whole galaxy is abit much of a step in power. I rather think that the sector will end up split up, and Zac take his 2 planets, and a large bit of spoil (read more planets) and get integrated in some sector closer to the core, maybe along with the undead empire parts since he already have a good connection with those. (or well.. part of them) Maybe in another sector where there is both death and living so he can continue building towards a new tradehub between the two sides of the coin. But now the training camp is on Ensolus, that planet is also to valuable to just let other factions enter, so he will need another planet to be front for his burgeoning empire :)

Kharas

"So long as it's not a slaughter trial" Cat just raised a billboard telling the future. When has Zac joined a multiple party trial that slaughter was not a part of it? the only one I can think is the Dao battle in the tower of eternity and at that point he was basically solo.

Omiso

I love how Zac can now SEE fate even without cultivating carma or order he is just incredibly lucky. Also Iz is going to looooove what Zac is cooking. I also wonder if once the dust settles if Zecia will be the same.

Orims

I'm willing to bet the Imperial Graveyard, the Old Gods, and the start of the LIP trial will help him bring his daos to Earthly. His Axe Dao is already a peak branch

Russell Widger

So Kolsara has Limitless’ own throne. That’s interesting. Wonder where she found that.

Luke Scheffe

Thats a good chapter, thanks TFD

Tyler S.

How will Zac keep up with these other Flamebearers inside Ultom? I know he said he wasn’t going for the main prize, but everyone knows that’s bull. It’s just that he is so far behind the other Flamebearers, excited to see how he catches up! Any ideas?

Yuh292

This chapter was very fucking informative. To learning that zacs mark as a holy son clashes with the mark of Iz grandma's throne. The typical way is to kill them but Zac isn't the kind of guy to go yoonking a supremacies shit and Iz knows this. And Iz mentioning zacs exhaustion and how his providence just keeps getting larger and larger. Wonderful. The best part is Iz no longer observing zac since the void star. She felt too guilty and sad after witnessing an exhausted zac barely holding up against the weight and fate placed on his shoulders; so much so that she even wants to realign their fate and feels she owes him. This is insane growth for Iz character and welcome growth at that. It shows she cares about zac and no longer sees his struggle as entertainment even if she desperately desires to know what he's experienced and been through. Adding in learning about monsters like the other flamebearers and man it's looking bleak if it's a slaughter aspect to the ultom trials. Especially against that elemental, 4 earthly daos? Fucking hell. And man even TFD is cementing zac and Iz future relationship because Rava is the 3rd character to make such a suggestion and at this point it's way to on the nose. But my biggest question, is what is this Endless crusade and what benefits does completing it entail🤔🤔 But, more than anything, this is why I pray zac and Co. will have their deserved rest once ultom and the war is over. He's been going at 200% since he heard of the war and some real decades long downtime feels deserved. Doesn't need to he centuries but at least until earth's assimilation.

Lex Luther S

Ah Zac I knew you were in need of a wall to slam your head into…

Alexander Dupree

lol Rava being extra helpful about Authorities so she can balance the risk posed by marking him with the Empyrean Flame

DrSubterfuge

1) Glad Iz has finally stopped using that creepy fucking mirror. 2) When Zac wins this war I wonder if the system will just give him control of the sector? Like it will give every other Empire a decade to either leave or bend the knee cause this shit is ridiculous. I know I said at the start of this arc Zac was gonna put the sector on his back. But come on! Yall couldn't last a decade with Zac outfitting your armies with high quality cosmic vessels and him decimating every mission he's a part of? At this point yall deserve to be conquered cause this is pathetic. 3) You know Zac must be exhausted when Iz Tayn, someone that has worse social cues from Sheldon in Big Bang Theory, can tell somethings up.

Darnell Maxwell

Tyftc the ascent of the fifth pillar is upon us. (It is the fifth right i didn’t make that up?)

Jett

Except chapter as always! I

Chris

"Your not ready" "Challenge Accepted!"

Darnell Maxwell

I think like that Holy Relic is probably the Divine Mirror. Even though Iz's grandfather is not the Empyrean Throne, he probably can still use his partner's authority somewhat.

Kartikey Sharma

This book has me hooked mate. I honestly hope it goes for another 20 years. Haha Legend 👍🏼
