Chapter 1,189.
Added 2024-01-26 21:07:55 +0000 UTC"Fancy meeting you here," Zac smiled as he sat down on a lush pillow.
The tracking signal had led him to the deck of a large teahouse overlooking dozens of glistening waterfalls. The establishment was clearly popular because of the scenic view, but the hundreds of patrons didn't seem to notice the Draugr in their midst. More impressively, they appeared completely oblivious to the gargantuan toad sprawled atop a mound of pillows, taking up a good chunk of the platform.
"I thought the System's restrictions couldn't possibly restrict the great Esmeralda?"
An infuriated series of croaks shook the teahouse, and great gusts of wind threatened to throw the F-grade patrons into the misty clouds as Esmeralda peppered off a string of what Zac could only assume were sign-language curses.
"The System has strengthened Earth's shroud? What does that have to do with me? You made it sound like I intentionally was making it difficult for you," Zac said, helplessly shaking his head when Esmeralda frenetically signed a retort. "Wait! I can't talk with you like this. You have to do something about your size."
The current Esmeralda towered at over fifteen meters, large enough to stuff half the tourists into her mouth. Facing her was like looking into a hill of black flesh, and he couldn't even see her hands without relying on his Soul Sense.
The toad's antics were causing a commotion, yet the patrons seemed to think sudden gusts of wind were to blame. It was like the whole area around them had become a blind spot they both mentally and physically avoided. The effect actually went beyond that.
They were sitting right in the open, yet Zac felt as though everything within twenty meters was hidden from Heaven's gaze. The feeling was actually a bit reminiscent of his Void State, and Zac was all but certain not even Monarchs could listen in on their conversation.
The effect surpassing any illusion array Zac had seen was obviously made possible by Esmeralda's bloodline. Spots of mysterious runes had appeared on her cheeks since they met last, which were currently emitting an unusual energy signature. Otherwise, her appearance hadn't changed much since they last met in the Perennial Vastness.
The only noticeable improvement was the mysterious vats on her back. The black liquid inside had become even darker and emitted a dense aura of Death. It almost felt like the old thief had visited the Abyssal Shores to siphon some of their lake water. Despite the liquid's apparent upgrade, it failed to perfectly contain the ripples of time from within.
Looking at the vats resulted in an uncomfortable throb, where Zac felt a weak temporal pull. It was like something was trying to drag him back to a prehistoric age, triggering his overexposure to temporal fluctuations. Thankfully, the effect didn't go beyond a mild inconvenience.
Esmeralda herself didn't emit a speck of aura, though Zac's instincts told him she'd recently stepped into Middle Hegemony. Such advancement speed wasn't very impressive, considering Esmeralda's current incarnation was already an Early Hegemon when they last met. Then again, beasts required far more time and energy to gain levels, and stronger bloodlines demanded even more.
An ancient beast like Esmeralda had to require terrifying amounts of time and effort to advance, possibly to the point her Early D-grade levels needed as much energy as Zac did in Middle D-grade. Zac was painfully aware of just how harsh those demands were.
It had been eleven months since he stepped into Middle Hegemony, so he'd only averaged one level per month. Actually, it was half that, considering six of his levels had come using the best Natural Treasures and Pills money and merit could buy. This speed was considered shocking and only made possible by his two bodies fighting without rest on the frontlines. Had he progressed just by adventuring in Zecia, visiting danger zones and Mystic Realms, he might not have gained a single level in that time frame.
Reaching peak Middle D-grade before the Left Imperial Palace seemed all but impossible. It had taken two rounds of pills to gain just six levels: one after upgrading his Supreme Pathbound Skills and one after [Void Heart] finally spat out the refined Tribulation Lightning two months later. Considering each level required exponentially more energy, a third round wouldn't make much of a difference, even if he figured out a way to use leveling pills again in the short term.
The slowdown was to be expected and generally not considered much of a problem when your lifespan was measured in millennia. However, it left Zac lost on how he was supposed to progress in the future. The kind of targets he'd need to kill to reach Peak Hegemony didn't exactly grow on trees, even in the Multiverse Heartlands.
Monarchy posed an even greater challenge. Suppose he formed an unprecedented Inner World thanks to his encounters with the Four Desolates, reducing the drain to a minimum. Then what? Nurturing a world requires vastly more energy than a core. He could become the second Eventide Asura and wipe out a whole sector without gaining more than a level or two.
A scathing croak dragged Zac out of his thoughts. Despite her attitude, Esmeralda did shrink to a more manageable size as she kept forming signs.
"I didn't mention someone has already breached the shroud, triggering a failsafe?" Zac muttered. That was actually true, though Zac wasn't about to throw Iz under the bus to appease Esmeralda. "I don't know anything about that. And how have you still not learned to talk? I only understand half of what you're saying without Lova translating."
'Why should I use crude forms of communication, limited by the lowest commonality, to placate some featherless heron? Movement is truth, and truth is meaning. Feel instead of see, comprehend instead of complain,' an ethereal voice shook Zac's mind.
At that moment, Esmeralda made her move. Her tongue lashed out, and the labyrinthian layers of meaning hidden in her voice made Zac's mind lock long enough to get tapped on his forehead. Zac was startled awake but the nudge, a flash of anger igniting in his heart when [Immutability of Eoz] briefly triggered before losing trace of whatever Esmeralda marked him with.
"What the hell did you do?" Zac growled, [Black Death] already in his hand.
'Guiding light for a fumbling fool.'
Zac's thoughts of retaliation were forgotten. Esmeralda hadn't used her mesmerizing voice again. In fact, she hadn't used a voice at all, and words weren't words. Zac's eyes were glued to Esmeralda's hands, struggling to make sense of the intense clarity of the message they'd imparted.
That's right, how did he usually understand what the toad wanted to convey despite her seemingly random gestures? Esmeralda obviously wasn't using real sign language. There was no structure, syntax, or repetition as you'd expect from language.
It was communication through Dao, following the Laws of the Cosmos instead of the rules of language.
Esmeralda's gestures expressed the fundamental basic building blocks of all Daos, transforming them into context and meaning by linking them together. The realization was like curtains parting, and Zac understood what she meant by feeling and comprehending. The Dao encompassed everything and could thus convey anything.
'That's better.'
"Could have given me a warning," Zac muttered, stilling his beating heart.
He'd momentarily felt like he'd come into contact with the Grand Dao, though that clearly wasn't the case. Curious, Zac tried to replicate Esmeralda's comment with his hands.
'A Mortal trying to speak in Dao Script? Esmeralda signed as a braying croak full of jibing joy echoed through the valleys. The old thief was clearly delighted at pulling one over on him after having her grand entrance to Earth foiled. 'That's like… That's like…'
"Like a toad trying to eat swan meat?"
'You mock, but I'll have you know I have eaten swan meat. Bony birds without merit. Wait, it's here!'
Zac frowned, readying himself for battle as he saw Esmeralda's eyes turn serious. Esmeralda's demand to come pick her up had led him to a late F-grade world, but that didn't guarantee no threats were lurking in the dark.
However, no Kan'Tanu assassin popped out of the shadows. Instead, it was a large insect emerging from a hidden cave behind a waterfall. It resembled a flea carved from cobalt, the sun reflecting on his lacquered chitin. It looked novel, but that was about it. It was alone, weak, and it didn't appear aggressive since the other patrons took its appearance in stride.
Then, it disappeared. Zac would have assumed it had been teleported away if he hadn't vaguely seen a streak of black flash between the nearby cliffs. Crunching sounds emerged from Esmeralda's mouth as she chewed with relish.
'See how convenient? You can eat and talk this way. I'd like to see you do that while flapping your gums,' Esmeralda signed. 'Too bad, this is beyond your ability. How can you speak the truth when you have only seen a corner of it? Before you've made it your own? You can give it a try if you ever manage to Defend your Dao. You're kind of stupid, but you do have the structure down, thanks to the gift of the Lost Era.'
"I'll try to endure until then," Zac shrugged, not overly concerned.
Esmeralda's ability was impressive, but it didn't seem to have much use despite requiring the insights of an Autarch. Zac guessed it also required immense practice and study, possibly more than practicing one's Soul. You had to reach a certain level of comprehension of all Daos and their connection to weave the Grand Dao into language. After all that, Zac could only vaguely intuit her words until she marked him with a translator. It didn't seem worth it.
'Ignorant.' Esmeralda gave him a pitying look. 'Language is truth, and truth is possibility. It's access. Do you think I only relied on my bloodline to pass through taboo regions and supposedly unbreakable Defensive Arrays? If you control the language of the Cosmos, you're qualified to rewrite Destiny.'
'And just so you know, I still could have entered your hovel if I wanted! I just didn't want to draw unnecessary attention. An experienced extractor only takes risks when the rewards warrant it!'
"Alright, alright," Zac smiled, raising his head in defeat upon seeing Esmeralda's intense look. She looked ready to come to blows to defend her thief's honor. "Anyway, it's good that you're here. The trial has already been preponed once. It might start at any moment."
'I'm not surprised. This region's providence is dwindling, and the System will invariably pick the path deemed to hold the greatest returns. Fate's direction has been thrown into chaos. I bet it's costing that old thief an arm and a leg to keep the pillar's ascent entangled with your war. It might just cut its losses and let fate take its course at this point.'
Zac's eyes briefly widened, feeling like he'd just been shown a glimpse of the vantage of someone who'd stood at the peak. The feeling was ruined shortly after when Esmeralda caught another insect, her face full of bliss as she chewed on her treat. Having been given the key to deciphering Esmeralda's method of communication had only made her seem odder.
The sense of dealing with a mischievous child was still there, but it was now mixed with hints of an ancient mind. Was the immaturity part of her personality, or was it the result of her regressive curse?
Esmeralda's analysis also shed some light on the plight Zecia currently faced. The heroic advance where the Alliance pushed back the invaders after unleashing the [Centurion Spear] amounted to nothing but a brief moment of glory in a bottomless downward spiral. Only half their Field Armies remained, with the rest being annihilated or crippled to the point it had to be joined into another.
Every month was worse than the last, despite the Pope never returning. One appearance had been enough to cast a shadow over Zecia's war efforts, a shadow that had only grown over time. Many Monarchs, fearing for their lives, became increasingly unwilling to participate in critical missions and raids. This led to a series of missed opportunities and disastrous losses, where each setback was another chink in their cohesion.
At first, the outsiders tried to stabilize the situation through various means, from mobilizing their Monarchs to infusing capital and resources to bolster the local forces. With new powerhouses sneaking into Zecia every day, it looked like they'd at least maintain the status quo until the trial.
However, their presence all but disappeared three months ago. They still fought on the frontlines but seemed content to have their youths engage in minor skirmishes. Anytime the danger reached a certain threshold, the outsiders disappeared, leaving the locals to fend for themselves.
It was like the outsiders had come to a mutual agreement that Zecia was the loser. Conquering a Sector was a long-term undertaking, even if one side held a clear advantage. With only 380 days left before the trial began, why waste time helping the losing side?
As Iz would have said, Zecia wasn't fated, and helping them might even harm their Karma with the Left Imperial Palace. Fishing in the muddy waters of a sector's gradual collapse held better chances of awarding sealbearers, including from those supposedly on the same side.
Of course, the Kan'Tanu were well aware of these considerations, so they kept a steady pace to not rock the boat. They were slowly spreading through the sector, isolating the larger factions without delivering a fatal blow. They were setting the stage to pounce after the trial had begun and the outsiders were gone, removing one threat at a time.
The latest target was the Thirty-seventh Field Army, the place the Calamity Company had called home for over a year. The Endemire Sage had fallen, his War Fortress destroyed. The Calamity Company would have met the same fate if they hadn't been out on a campaign at the time.
The Thirty-seventh's fate meant they'd been stuck in enemy territory with a huge bounty. Their many seals had been the bait for multiple successful operations with those who still fought the good fight. Without a Monarch watching their backs, they had become a hot potato.
Normal teleporters had long since stopped functioning in the war-torn region, rendering his escape bangle's feature useless. Thankfully, the System provided a path to survival—destroy the Seafarer to earn an army relocation. That was why Zac had pushed deeper into Kan'Tanu territory to take out the experimental fortress, even relying on the Void to bring it down.
Zac still wasn't fully comfortable openly using his bloodline in such a public forum, even if [Void Mountain] let him mask its unique aura and energy signature. He could only pull so many impossible feats before someone figured out the truth. Ultimately, keeping secrets couldn't be compared to the life of his subordinates. Besides, Zac already had so many targets on his back that it would make much of a difference if someone figured out his connection to the Void.
If anything, he was more worried about having to call in such a troublesome favor to get the location of the Seafarer before his location was exposed. The Sindris Clan weren't fools, and Zac hadn't managed to glean their intentions from their brief exchanges. Friend or foe, each encounter held the potential for disaster.
'You look like someone has snatched the food from your tongue,' Esmeralda signed. 'Don't lose your mind over something so small like a border region's collapse. It happens all the time. You're rich and connected. Just bring your people away from here if you're worried.'
It was true, though only to a certain point. Many were already looking for ways to leave the sinking ship. Doing so was easier said than done. Even factions like the Dravorak Dynasty would have to sacrifice their foundations to gain refuge with their main branch, where only the top talents and Monarchs would be brought back.
The Kavriel Province was no different. He'd already heard rumors of a planned exodus unless something changed. The Kan'Tanu were probably not foolish enough to target a branch of the Undead Empire, but there wasn't much point in staying if all dreamers in Zecia were infected with Heart Curses.
The Undead Empire would extract the spirituality of the Kavriel Province's continent and cultivation havens before relocating the Kavriel Clan and a few others to another frontier sector. The trillions of common citizens would be abandoned, as they weren't even considered true citizens of the empire. With the established factions being so ruthless to their own, how could Zac possibly secure passage for over a billion people? He'd be lucky if he could bring away a few thousand, and the assistance would come with strings attached.
"Let's not talk about this," Zac exhaled. "I'm not ready to give up on Zecia yet, and much can happen over the coming years. How are your preparations?"
'I had to give up on some of my plans, but the most important matters are dealt with. I just need you to provide passage,' Esmeralda signed, a teasing grin spreading across her face. 'How's my temple looking, little priest?'
"Just missing the final touches," Zac grunted as he got to his feet. "Let's go back and wrap things up."
Comments
And ya.. . Zac was never going to lose that "roll for survival" with the demon herald. I bet that's not even a thing. If he talked about that with people knowledgeable on incursions they would be like WTF do you mean roll for survival? The system never makes mistakes like that when integrating planets. And it was spawned on you miles away from the incursion pillar? And if Zac is really technically a mortal, When he asks the system "why can't I go to the tutorial? Why does the system say user has been granted personal initialization protocol SL34572, a lottery opportunity. Protocol SL34572 is a unique opportunity congratulations user." The system didn't talk to anyone on earth, not even people in the tutorial and used tutorial pixies to communicate to them. The heavens rolled in full power and smote everything and Zac and Leandra pop up on earth a few hundred or a few thousand years later or whatever the time gap was and Leandra's mind and body are perfectly suppressed to the level of a normal human and she miraculously conceives a child with a mortal man when autarchs and higher have difficulty concieving.... Leandra said something like "I don't know how you are here. The cursed heavens killed you, you died, I saw you die. Even the dimensional tunneler from book 7 that the system forced Zac to get when he didn't want to. It wasn't a cultivation resource or something to make him stronger. It's only purpose was to save his ass and keep him from dying during the escape competition in the mystic realm in a specific scenario. I think it takes allot of energy and effort for the system to directly help him like that outside the natural laws of heaven and it wants his luck as high as possible, so that it's easier to put it's finger on the scales of fate behind the scenes. The system upgraded Zac's duplicity core from F to E grade personally. How do we know the hatch and extra features added to make his core formation easier and the protection from the judgment of the primal heavens weren't features added by the system instead of Leandra? If Leandra knew the full extent of the personal attention and assistance Zac has received from the system and how much that wisp of Laondios consciousness helped him recently, she would probably kill him outright.

2024-01-30 13:24:28 +0000 UTCAhhhh your absolutely right, it was just 10 floors TY. So I re listened to the chapter, Zac felt a little hopeless about his ignorance and then made the obvious choice of picking Araht soul empowering array and didn't even consider the other 2 options as viable choices. Then he "froze in shock" as he was reaching out his arm to make the selection and the system spoke out loud, directly to him for the first time since the integration. It said, "the second choice brings rectification of regret, the third leads you down an alternative path." and changed his mind completely unprompted because it thought he was making a mistake. And then Zac was super pissed off when he found out the divine investiture array created a custom spirit tool and felt tricked and cheated by the system and said "how does this rectify regret? I already have a spirit tool." And Catheya was trying to convince him it was really good and offering to buy it if he didn't want it. He was really freaked out by how things played out and even questioning to himself if the system arranged for Alea to die or if it just knew this would happen? And why not give him more information so he could stop it. "Rectify regret" and the stranger intervention from the system is the only reason why he thought he could use it to save Alea.

2024-01-30 09:47:45 +0000 UTCWhen Zac came out of the Tower of Eternity, the system offered a 10 level free pass straight to the top of the Tower to anyone that could kill him to make a spectacle and elevate him in the eyes of the sector of Zecia. This war and the system directly interfering with Ultom and delaying it and making this all a contest is the exact same thing on a grand scale. Even the Esmeralda toad lady said the system must be paying an unbelievable price to interfere with fate like this. It's a direct continuation of book 4 and whatever the systems agenda is with Zac. At the very least, I'm looking forward to the fifth shard/splinter double Atavism and Catheya and Iz Tayn meeting each other 🤣. You know the Sendris Technocrat supremacies throwing down with the UE, Sangha, and Taynes over who gets Zac is gonna be wild 🔥🔥🔥 The resurrection of the void emperor was the entire purpose and hope of their people since they were exiled. It kinda sounded like they were the most individually martially powerful Technocrat faction.

2024-01-30 08:09:06 +0000 UTCMan, there's a lot of whiny little bitches in the comments lately. No one is making you stay. If you don't like it, bye. You're delusional to say the story hasn't been progressing. This arc has been extremely interesting as a full-scale intergalactic war of trillions has been playing out. Zac is plowing through D grade way faster than it took him to get through E.

2024-01-28 19:03:27 +0000 UTCI think a lot of those people who are complaining are expecting nonstop action and progress. Which is just delusional, it’s a book series there need to be chapters like this otherwise there is no depth to the world building or characters. If we just had Esmeralda show up and pop open the ruins it would way more boring. I want to see more from her as a character not just a tool Zac uses for his own gain.
Michael
2024-01-27 20:47:51 +0000 UTCWonder if we'll see what's in the central temple today or if it'll be saved for next week.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 20:45:34 +0000 UTCJust to be sure, there is supposed to be a chapter today right?
Alexandre Bergeron
2024-01-27 20:43:56 +0000 UTCIf the kan'tanu pope and the remaining 6 chapter masters are killed off, it should give the zecia sector the space to breathe and fight back. And hopefully killing off a few dozen other monarchs helps too😂
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 20:41:37 +0000 UTCThe best bet is that after the war and zecias victory, thanks to zac summoning the foreign gods, he'll be able to access the war room node for a few millenia and continue to expand his empire through the insane amount of merit he'll get from the foreign gods laying waste to the zubor sector. Zac already showed us an example of how their sustained growth can go and it's looking very promising. And with the other empires being so spent on dealing with the remains of the Kan'Tanu, his empire will be able to grow with little issue.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 20:39:55 +0000 UTCSame man. I feel it's asking way too much that every single ch progresses the overarching arc and zacs growth. They don't even have the patience for zac to have a conversation regardless of how important it is; either to the world building, to a serious issue zac will need to solve to continue his journey to supremacy or to the situation zecia finds itself in. Hell some have said that TFD should just kill ogras off since he's been out of the story for so long🤦♂️😂😂🤦♂️ it's like they don't understand what the term "side character" and "main character" means.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 20:34:41 +0000 UTCI’m hoping it leads to a much larger Atwood empire. I bet a lot of unaffiliated worlds, or world abandoned by their former rulers would be willing to join the Atwood empire. And on top of the massive contribution points the empire is going to receive a lot when the hundred years is up.
bltth26
2024-01-27 20:16:27 +0000 UTCDamn I don’t usually read comments, but you all are way too critical. The story is great, it leaves me wanting more. Hoping TFD doesn’t read the vitriol on here and take it to heart cause I’m enjoying the ride juuuuuust fine, thank you very much Love the idea of Zecia being overrun. Create a crisis that test’s Zac’s character and leadership capabilities in different ways. Time to move to a new sector?
Raymond
2024-01-27 20:06:54 +0000 UTCSo my guess here is that the foreign gods wipe out most the cultist top dogs. Then Iz and all the opportunists factions coming to Zecia will clean house to bolster their sealbearers before the ascent. Thus Zecia is saved and the Atwood Empire comes out with the best merit and resources of all the local factions.
Michael
2024-01-27 20:04:18 +0000 UTCA heaven would call down supremacies to take over the sector so I don’t think that is likely. He will probably take over both sectors though.
Michael
2024-01-27 19:58:54 +0000 UTCHe promised last week because on Monday and Tuesday he took free days, so promised this weekend a chapter.
Stefan Muntean
2024-01-27 18:52:47 +0000 UTCThis true . Chap today?
Jamie Messier
2024-01-27 18:50:28 +0000 UTCYes he did. Ogras himself mentioned that the technique he learned from those monuments were over turning everything he thought possible. Just learning one part of the method put him on a whole nother level than when he arrived and it also helped him find the proper path for his flag. Turning it into a proper hell that punishes the wicked to forge good karma instead of constantly staining his karma like he was before. Hell he got so strong that he was able to sacrifice HALF the burial heart domain where he was sent to to complete the process of reforging his flag. You really think he could have gotten that strong if he had just returned to zecia and joined the war? Zac wanted opportunities that would reforge both Ogras and catheyas' fate and its safe to say ogras has had his fate reforged in a way that will see him go beyond even monarchy. And at best, ogras was on Leyaras' lvl. But now? It's safe to assume only heavens chosen like from the heartlands or Eonic seeds could pose a challenge to him. Besides, with Esmeralda here, I imagine it won't be long before ogras returns as well, followed by catheya and Iz and her group. Then all the cards will be in play for the breach and lighting the beacon.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 18:31:07 +0000 UTCThat’s what I’m hoping for. That when this war is done the Atwood empire will control most of both sectors. And be a middle C grade group.
bltth26
2024-01-27 16:32:05 +0000 UTCYeah it's seems like a pretty safe assumption that he bought them already, Zac doesn't have enough time to go hunt down some random cultivator who decided to roll the dice
Lucas Gulick
2024-01-27 16:22:19 +0000 UTCThey are listed in the alliance store. My guess is zac either already purchased them or plans to do so when getting ready for his foray into the zubor sector to find the breach.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 15:32:44 +0000 UTCThat's what the foreign gods are for. Light the beacon, summon the gods and send them after the kan'tanu in the zubor sector.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 15:31:10 +0000 UTCAlso super curious to find out what happened with the remnants, they got mentioned in a system shop and reaching atavism will hopefully be a huge power spike for him
Lucas Gulick
2024-01-27 15:20:55 +0000 UTCI feel like Zac is going to win the trial and the system won't care anymore about outside interference, so he'll sweet talk Iz or some other faction to come wipe out the Kan'Tanu
Lucas Gulick
2024-01-27 15:18:56 +0000 UTCPlus these chapters are really important for the quality of the book, as frustrating as that is for those of us who treat it as a web serial the end result is a better story
Lucas Gulick
2024-01-27 15:16:12 +0000 UTCThis is zacs story to supremacy. So obviously we're gonna be focusing on zac instead if our lovable demon; to kill him off just because he's off training or not involved in the story is ridiculous.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 14:51:39 +0000 UTCI mean, if you're not happy with the story, no one is stopping you from canceling your subscription. Honestly, expecting every single chapter to progress the plot somehow is delusional and it's important to remember that this is ultimately a cultivation novel, there will be downtime where nothing major happens or goes on or progresses the overarching plot in some way. Especially when it involves a key character like Esmeralda.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 14:49:34 +0000 UTCWell, it's been more than a yr since the Centurion spear and that's more than enough time to come into contact with em.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 14:33:03 +0000 UTCYeah, but the last chapter didn't say he was going to pick up a friend. It just said he got a message of indignation and was going to see an old friend. Nobody would ever guess that when Zac says old friend, he's referring to the toad he talked too in two chapters during the last arc. Hell, we didn't even know Zac was off world until like 5 paragraphs into this chapter.
Darnell Maxwell
2024-01-27 14:26:56 +0000 UTCToad-style summoning jutsu. How did Zac contact the Sindris Clan? I thought he threw away the communication token!! Esolus ruins here we come.
RWS
2024-01-27 14:09:35 +0000 UTCWell, it's a conversation. Do you really expect every single ch to be nonstop action or progress of the plot? This gives world building and context; especially more so given this is a serious issue zac will have to solve to continue his path to the peak. Also, we've had a big time skip here and this gives us information on how the war is going. Just saying "it's not going well" won't really cut it when you're losing a war
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 12:51:04 +0000 UTCThat's on you. Ogras just had a POV. And wouldn't need to be picked up. He can just teleport to Earth once in Zecia.
Christian Brock
2024-01-27 11:20:44 +0000 UTC@jonas Lol bro was was just saying wasn’t meant to be antagonistic… I get what you saying, and we all need Ogras but lets be honest he’s kinda not really needed yet… a heroes journey is a solitary one, and I’m sure he’ll show up like a boss with that Assassination list he has, probably for once cause a huge headache instead of zac… honestly look forward to the Justice League style roll out… All stars align… hopefully we get some posters that’d be lit.
Kirin
2024-01-27 09:44:47 +0000 UTCSystem need Zac same way System needed his technical father Karz. Zac is the key that lets it to truly usurp heaven and take its place
SandreX
2024-01-27 08:03:50 +0000 UTCI for one, enjoyed this chapter. I like Esmeralda, I like the speaking with the Dao, guaranteed that's going to come up again, and I like the other implications sprinkled throughout. Hopefully Zecia falls under Zac's control completely.
James Townsend
2024-01-27 07:46:51 +0000 UTCGetting stronger, giving expositions, and having action does not equate to story or plot progression. Everything your praising is exposition and power fantasy confirmation. I can some up the entirety of the story progression since chapter 1160, the end of the lighthouse. 2024-01-27 02:40:38 +0000 UTCMy understanding was he had 400 days to light the beacon for the gods. It's still unknown how that will affect the pillar's ascent, but presumably following that quest line speeds things up?

2024-01-27 02:34:40 +0000 UTCUmm, I don't see what you're getting at. Certainly the system has thrown shit at zac but to say it gave him his insane luck stat to do so is weird. As for the tower of eternity, zac was a floundering cultivation idiot at that point in time and he didn't know which was the better option so opted to ask the system which obliged and it was ultimately zacs decision to choose the array. Also, it was only 10 floors so if someone was at floor 69 then they'd get to floor 79 instead. Far from reaching the top. It's also important to note that the whole multiverse knew when zac took his seal of ultom as kators dao guardian mentions it like throwing a mountain on a calm lake so the system didn't have to do anything to spread the word as they would definitely link it to zecia. And Wal'Zo was talking about zac in that moment not ultom.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-27 02:33:13 +0000 UTCI'm going to assume that each of the 8 courts of Ultom have a bunch of supreme treasures he needs representing the 2 peaks of the Dao that represent that court and he can use those for his void mountain and the last court, the palace itself will have the remaining things he needs and a void emperor related inheritance that was custom made for him. And I'll assume that the foreign gods once activated, will make Zecia a sealed and protected realm that they guard or something of that nature.

2024-01-27 02:27:49 +0000 UTCLump, he is in same situation as far as hopelessly outmatched, barely surviving. As far as him losing, I mentioned that to show that while his levels go up, his situation stays the same.

2024-01-27 02:22:50 +0000 UTCThat’s my point dude! All this leveling, skills, etc., and what’s changed? Earth is still threatened, now the entire sector is threatened, and storyline wise, nothing has progressed. UE still watching out for themselves and prolly coming after Zac. Same as before PV. Zecia is outclassed and outgunned, same as before PV. MC fighting, leveling, getting titles, but still in same situation as before PV, just higher leveled now. Yeah, there’s been arcs going on, but has there been any sign of Zac being able to control his own destiny? No! Still dancing to old monsters and the way things are being written, always will be a pawn to someone more powerful. That’s frustrating right there.

2024-01-27 02:07:19 +0000 UTCSo much stuff has happened that your not even sure what he's talking about. It's been non-stop action and fights and upgrades and mysterious things being revealed since he hit D grade. This is the best the series has been in quite some time.. From Zac having a mysterious lunatic, unkillable father and all the void emperor stuff moving forward and getting explained to half a dozen other things and all his subordinates getting massive upgrades. The pacing would feel super weird and rushed if it was moving any faster than this and he needs to take a break and level up. You would down the next 100 chapters in a heartbeat if they were available, there's a bunch of crazy shit going on.
Collin Sorrells
2024-01-27 01:57:12 +0000 UTCYou think? It's orchestrated his luck being high so that it can interfere in his favor as much as possible, it refused his reward selection and then spoke to him directly and explained what the rewards were more closely and got him to change his mind from the body tempering array to the array that made Loves Bond. After every got scared and gave up on fighting him when he left the tower of eternity, it gave everyone battle rage and offered a 10 level skip free pass straight to the top of the Tower. The system has been directly moving Zac around like a chess piece the entire story. He 100% would have died if it hadn't forced him very obtusely to get that dimensional tunneler that he really didn't want to go get in the technocrats research base mystic realm. It's been direct and shameless intervention on a regular basis.
Collin Sorrells
2024-01-27 01:43:30 +0000 UTCNo, the beacon. All the nonskimmers know about it. It’s what the book in the centurion spear was directing him to, and is the key to winning the war, most likely. He’s been working towards lighting it for something like twenty chapters now. Also, this chapter was the toad arriving, which will assist with the beacon and let him break into the ensolus ruins.
Luke Scheffe
2024-01-27 01:25:47 +0000 UTCThere's a bunch of downsides. They are both garbage frontier sectors. Zecia can barely even support early monarchs. The invaders have been united for quite awhile before this war and have a prodigy comparable to the Evening Tide asura. They waste allot of lives and resources on their heart curses and it's much more difficult for them to reach the higher levels, especially late C B and A rank but that doesn't matter too much fighting a trash sector like Zecia.
Collin Sorrells
2024-01-27 01:25:19 +0000 UTCWe've known about the system interfering with Ultom for a long time. Ultom was made for the void emperor and it activated for Zac and then the system stopped it and delayed everything so all this ridiculousness could take place. This is all basically an even more ridiculous version of when Zac left the tower of eternity an offered a free 10 level pass straight to the top of the Tower to anyone that killed him. That battle completely altered his fate. The system is obviously completely altering his fate again and setting him down a path. It's done so allot, it refused his picked reward, talked to him personally and described the rewards and got him to change his mind and not pick the body tempering array and to pick the array that created Loves Bond instead. I'm suspicious that it orchestrated him getting opportunities to give him a high luck stat so that it can interfere in his favor as much as possible. But anyways, it's been eluded to multiple times that the system has delayed and exposed the Ultom trial. It was most straight forwardly confirmed by the void priestess saying he had been short changed and fate had been altered and in the chapter where the mysterious "old hand" is wondering aloud to emperor limitless about his visions for the future and if they are going to plan or not and talking about "that man's descendant" and how he was gonna help directly but he didn't need to because Ultom activated by itself and picked him.
Collin Sorrells
2024-01-27 01:15:24 +0000 UTCSo as far as the system paying extra attention to Zac but letting others slide, what?! So you really think that monarchs and autarchs that have “built their foundations on untold number of lives” would be like “oh, well, just end my progress. It’s fine.”?! Furthermore, the whole system being bloodthirsty and causing billions to be slaughtered for a powerhouse to be raised up sounds EXACTLY like the Kan’Tanu!
Naotsugu97
2024-01-27 00:58:34 +0000 UTCWhat “beacon”? You mean the Pillar? Or the bell that Leviala found? Or are you talking about the opportunity that the Radiant Temple guy has pointed Zac towards? Some of us actually pay attention, which is why the dissatisfaction is so high.

Also the fact that he isn't OP and gets his butt kicked is good because OP characters are boring. Has it really taken you over 1,100 chapters to realize this is a LitRPG Cultivation Story? The System was introduced in the second chapter of the story and the only reason for its existence is LEVELING. Of course the MC is going around from one insurmountable problem to the next, would you rather he just sit on his butt and do nothing? Where's the fun and excitement in that? If you want to quit the story, that's fine. But your reasons for doing so make no damn sense at all.

2024-01-27 00:45:27 +0000 UTCIn those 50 chapters Zac and the others launched the Centurion Spear at the Kan'Tanu, which destroyed multiple Warfortresses and killed like a dozen Monarchs. Then the Kan'Tanu Pope showed up and blasted a hole slew of Zecia's Monarchs which has led to the current situation of Zecia being in real trouble. That's progress.

2024-01-27 00:20:06 +0000 UTCI'm guessing it's going to be Zac and his quest. Unleash more lighthouses and the gods. Turn the tide. Win the trial, come back and finish things off. 2024-01-27 00:18:01 +0000 UTCOh that's simple. This is his way of getting back at people like me that shit on his writing. Like how I go on massive rants about certain poorly written females or how he will use long winded dialogue to drag out certain chapters. Zac's core formation didn't need to be that long. Most of it was Zac pointlessly guessing at the system and the Heavens Agenda, flowery language about Dao and how surprising it was that something interfered with his breakthrough. Even though something on this scale has interfered with his last like 4 breakthroughs this arc alone. Aside from skills the last time nothing shocking happened during a Zac breakthrough was that conflict attuned fruit he ate. The one that helped simulate a million battles for him before the Kator fight. The knowledge about the name heavens chosen and how a law attacking during a tribulation was a sign of someone doing big stuff was helpful though.

2024-01-27 00:15:39 +0000 UTCThat's a view point I hadn't thought of. Ogras was really lacking in having a Dao master. I wasn't salty about Ogras being gone until this chapter. I thought the training and his master was really badass. I just don't get why Esmeralda is an "Old Friend" and why she had to come back before Ogras. I don't think anyone was really looking forward to her returning beyond it being a flag for Ultim starting soon.
Jonas Lemke
2024-01-27 00:07:21 +0000 UTCWas thinking that but couldn’t find the chapter. Thanks a mil.
Alan Dale
2024-01-26 23:57:15 +0000 UTCOh ok we're mostly in agreement there. Specifically the Ogras could have grown from his time on the battlefield via the war. Ogras is different from people like Iz Tayn, Catheya, Kruta and even Zac in two aspects. Fate and Knowledge. Ogras originally wasn't fated to get any farther than maybe mid E Grade. Zac solves that problem because whenever Ogras reaches the end of his potential the universe throws a little fate his way due to his connection to Zac. But even then most of the times it does it in a backhanded way. Like I'll give you this creature to boost all your shadow abilities but it's going to constantly try to takeover your body. I could go more into this but that's a topic for another day. The main issue Ogras faces is the second problem. Knowledge. Specifically from a teacher. Zac has more masters than methods of cultivation. He's had Yrial, Pavina, countless Monarchs and Hegemons in the Oroum and even the first three Draugr to some extent with the lessons he learns from his bloodline visions. Catheya has her master, while Kruta and Iz have their families. Ogras has never had a person in the story to sit down and learn from. Someone to give advice about his fighting style, teach him methods of assassination, tracking skills, or just answering general questions about any blockades major roadblocks in his path. And there's no magic lake water he can drink to substitute this knowledge either. He's always had to rummage through ancient text, make deals with metaphorical demons or just learn from experience. And at the rate Zac advances, that method of learning isn't sustainable if he doesn't want to get left behind. Hell even his damn Ultom enlightenment he got shortchanged on! Half the damn insights went to a second personality and devoloping methods to keep the ghosts in his banner in check. And for as much as I shit on Brazla's inheritance, all the teachers at least taught their candidate SOMETHING! Ogras literally didn't learn a damn thing and was made into an experiment! So this one on one training with a master was a long time coming. And will hopefully keep TFD from banishing our #1 demon to some other cosmos again for awhile. At least until Zac comes across that rumored d grade trial that'll likely give him what he needs to push for Monarchy.
Darnell Maxwell
2024-01-26 23:56:59 +0000 UTCI'd like to point out 50 chapters is half a book. That's half a book of only power progression for Zac and hardly any war development beyond a time skip that showed they are losing.

2024-01-26 23:49:47 +0000 UTCI am writing my own "shit" thanks but that doesn't mean I can't read and critique others. The ONLY thing I have an issue with is how TFD just keeps sending Ogras away. We get him back for 1.5 arcs and he's just gone again. I personally like the idea of Zecia losing the war (even long run) part of the issue too is the release format. The last few chapters just being set up and exposition, especially after his holiday break, equates to the feeling of nothing progressing for weeks. Coupled with a few disappointing cliffhangers and it just leads to a sour taste.
Jonas Lemke
2024-01-26 23:47:02 +0000 UTCAlso, everything is clearly being setup for a huge play with this beacon. The author has to lay the ground work and I feel the story is definitely progressing. We finally have good back story on Zac’s technocrat past and a better understanding of these peak players such as the Sangha and what their motivations are. His void bloodline abilities have progressed which is critical to the plot. So sounds like you’re just being impatient and need to take a break not the author as the story has been very consistent so far.
Ben
2024-01-26 23:43:50 +0000 UTCHe might be able to get a hold of one that can do that across multiple sectors, at least those near the zecia sector, but that's likely something only the system would give out, and there's no telling how one would even aquire such an item.
Lex Luther S
2024-01-26 23:43:47 +0000 UTCI’m not sure if you can call it a plot hole but the system is definitely watching Zac more than others. It’s hard to say as we really don’t have any other perspectives. Also we’ve seen that you can abandon quests from Ogras the system doesn’t smite you if you fail it just loses interest. Zac could easily have said no to the system and endured the sanction or whatever but the system is super overbearing with him as it clearly has plans. It probably doesn’t usually care if you complete your task or not. Zac is the exception here. So I wouldn’t go claiming it’s a plot hole at all.
Ben
2024-01-26 23:40:46 +0000 UTCThat's my whole point. He was gone for books 8, 9, and 10. Came back for book 11 half way through the arc, did stuff behind the scenes in book 11, than he's left behind the very next arc. He was hardly back in the story for a full arc before he had to leave to "train". He just got back from spending 10 years in a Origin Dao natal mystic realm. Did he really have to miss the entire first part of the war because he was too weak? His growth could have come from fighting in the war and in the foreground of the story. He's my favorite character, I'm not slandering him, I'm slandering what TFD has done with him (read hasn't done with)

2024-01-26 23:31:46 +0000 UTCSo what changed in the story? Oh he broke thru to middle hegemony? Yet is STILL in the same situation as when he was running around in a dress! The void vajra has gained another level? So what? He still gets his ass kicked by Kator and it doesn’t help his allies! If you want to sit around and wank off to levels etc that’s your prerogative, but being able to say “strength is at X level” does nothing for me. The MC is still flailing around going from one insurmountable problem to the next. It’s a MFing perpetual loop. It’s turned into a leveling cultivation story. Not what the engaging, somewhat humorous story it started out as. Hence why I called author burnout. You can’t write quality if you’re sick of the story or life itself.

2024-01-26 23:30:10 +0000 UTCThat's a fucking lie! I will not allow any Ogras slander in my comment reply chain. He helped Zac takeout multiple Kan Tanu in the void star, acted as a guide for him and Vilari, managed to help build a friendship between Zac and Iz Tayn since they both have the social expertise of Tarzan meeting humans for the first time. Plus he lead Zac's followers into the million gates territory, explored the rest of their solar system and did a majority of the planning on how Zac would meet with the Undead Empire about Ultom and Arcaz's undead lineage. And all of that was just in book 11! In the Perenial Vastness he was also integral on several missions, convinced Zac to finally relax for a bit and have a gling with Catheya while also helping out in small ways that were mostly glossed over in timeskips. The only reason he hasn't been featured recently is because he was off training. And people like you that haven't seen him since the PV and are starting to think Zac has left him behind are precisely why he needs to hurry up and return to the story!

2024-01-26 23:15:30 +0000 UTCHm, i get why we’re all underwhelmed… but to be honest its not that easy to write all this… or else yall would be writing you own shit… anyways be patient, there are a lot of pieces of the story floating out there, its purposeful so that he can tie everything into the trail… also in regards to the war they were never gonna win on there own… come one the sector has been divided unlike the invader that are under a dictator and ruled by absolute cruel strength… theres now way every faction look out for there own interests was gonna win against zealots… then need one emperor … and well no one is strong enough to take that spot so the system is creating a path… its quite possible by the end of the war the atwood empire will span the entire sector but to do that zac gonna have to be minimum C grade and have a ton of trump card so most factions will choose to join or leave the sector. That take a lot of time and writing to do properly… quite frankly the war is just a setup for a trail that’ll be very long and complicated…like every faction from the heartlands are there, think you guys keep overlooking the significance of that.

2024-01-26 23:14:05 +0000 UTCOgras is leveling behind the scenes, he has never been on Zacs level since the battle for the tree. 2024-01-26 23:11:57 +0000 UTC50 chapters ago Zac was enduring a Tribulation from the Tribulation Throne inside the base for the Centurion Spear. . Since then he's advanced to the next level of his Void Vadgra Sublimation, broken through to Middle Hegemony WHILE enduring another Tribulation and advanced one of his Dao to Late Stage. We've also had a one year time skip. If that isn't story progression, what is? As far as the Outsiders go, their goal isn't to save Zecia, it's to acquire enough merit to take part in the trial. As such the System isn't going to give them the same quests that it gave Zac, who lives in Zecia and has strong Karmic ties to the sector. Finally, yes the Kan'Tanu are better than the Factions that call Zecia home. Zecia is a frontier sector and as such it's inhabitants are going to be weaker. This was explained before the war even began.

It was a good chapter and everything but all this jerking around of if your favorite character is coming back yet or not doesn't make one feel good about reading a good chapter. Ogras has been absent from 4 out of the last 6 books. If TFD wants him out of the story just kill him off please. If your intent is to let him catch up to Zac, why the fuck was Ogras stuck in a Orgin Dao filled mystic realm for 10 years??? You didn't need to make him miss so much of the war for "training". Ograss could have filled the flag with Kan tanu. He could have used LIP inspiration to help with his spear more. He could have been kept in the story. If you don't like him please just kill him

2024-01-26 22:41:16 +0000 UTCOkay, I’m calling author burnout. When TFD took a month off I paused until 50 chapters were in the tank, expecting the story to progress. It hasn’t. I feel like I read 35 chapters of extraneous exposition! This is worse than the orom arc! And plot holes??? How the hell can so many forces and powerhouses shirk their efforts? Remember the system imposed threats that Zac had? I guess he was the only one! And as far as our antagonists are concerned, it looks like their way is superior! I’ve been a fan for a long time, but this has become just another lame, trope infested fiction. The last chapter even had Zac snorting! 2024-01-26 22:20:28 +0000 UTCSo the elite outsiders have deduced that Zecia is lost, and think that the System won’t tie success in Zecia to success in the Pillar’s ascent. That seems arrogant, especially in light of Zac’s contribution with the lighthouse bringing the trial timeline forward. It proves the System is committed to connecting the war to the Pillar. It kinda seems like the System is engineering a situation where Zac gets to use the Pillar to conquer Zecia. Thats how he’ll get enough resources for his inner world.

The system has to have something in plan when connecting the war and trial together and zac is the fulcrum to fulfilling it. My guess is that's why he got that Flame of hope, quest as well as the court token. Because the system knew that zac doesn't care one lick about fate and how the river flows; willing to do whatever it takes to save zecia. Even summoning ancient gods from eons past. But damn, to think his field army as well as the Endemire Sage fell; truly a desperate situation. On the bright side, with Esmeralda here, zac can finally crack open that central temple and see what's inside; hopefully it's something that can give zecia the breathing room to survive the next 2 or so months as zac enacts his plan

2024-01-26 21:32:20 +0000 UTCWonder if we’ll get a bunch of different perspectives from Zac’s Ultom group finishing up their tasks before uniting for the trial? I like the time skips, not sure how many major points can change in day-to-day life in a few months

2024-01-26 21:31:42 +0000 UTCThoughts on Esmeralda? Will she be able to get into the end plus ruins? Will she get Zac all the treasure he could possibly want in the inheritance? Will her side mission create trouble down the line? Next time on the first defier 😅

2024-01-26 21:19:00 +0000 UTCI blame myself. I should have have learned from Theya surviving that the TFD doesn't like to give me anything I actually like. And when something cryptic is said always assume it's the least enjoyable option. Because the worst case scenario your happily surprised at the sight of Zac speaking with a giant toad. Instead of being disappointed that your facorite demon is still weeks away from returning to the story.
