[Background Blog] A Sunny Renovation

Hi Patrons, for the second July background blog, we're taking a look at some of the asset production progress in Nekojishi: Lin & Partners.

Background

In Lin & Partners, Liao and the cats run a property development company that specialises in haunted locations, making use of "Feng Shui" or in reality, Liao's ability to talk to spirits, to complete their contracts.

From a design perspective, this means that each location goes through a transformation as the story progresses.

Design Progress

Recently one of these locations we've been working on has been a beach scenario where a struggling local beach is turned into a tourist destination. While we'll leave the story particulars out of the way for now to avoid spoilers, let's take a look at a single building in this larger area.

Above is the mid-renovation concept artwork for the main building of this beach renovation.

And here's an in-progress look of the game model.

Let's say the yaoguai responsible for this area definitely approves of the new digs in the above concept artwork.

Above is one of the earlier in-progress shots of this building in its completed state.

To aid the texturing process, the concept artist also provides a sheet of graphics for text and other images to the scene modeller.

Once the concepts and basic models are worked out, it's time to build them out in context of the larger scene.

You won't get much of a chance to see these buildings from behind in-game outside of cutscenes but we're making sure to keep them covered from all directions.

While the model textures/materials aren't complete yet in these screenshots, the more recent images of this scene we have on hand would spoil just a bit too much of the larger scene, so we'll leave that up to your imagination!
