[Blog] Early Concepts of Beek 2

Hello patrons,

This is Pache, a producer of Studio Klondike and the scriptwriter of Nekojishi and Beek. On behalf of the whole team, I apologise to everyone for being late this time as we have been too busy in the past two weeks. However, I'm glad to have a chance talking with you and I would like to take this opportunity to share some ideas I have about project Beaver Creek, the sequel of Beek.

The birth of Beek was a coincidence. While I was writing scripts for project Carmacks at the end of 2018 I experienced some kind of writer's block. To ease myself I wrote a short story about an ordinary man who unexpectedly receives messages from another world. Surprisingly my fellows were all loving this idea and we made that into a small game.

To be honest, Beek is our first mobile title and there're a lot of things worth improving. This is also why we want to make its sequel and present a better game for everyone. We have used our spare time to build up the basic game mechanics and it will be my job to write and test all the scripts. However, since our main project is still Carmacks, we still need months before we can show you something like a game (and I need more time to come up with the story too!).

As you know Beek is somewhat of an alternate reality game pretending it to be a messaging app. And for Beaver Creek we would definitely keep this idea, but instead of messaging, we planned to make it a "social media platform". The player will be able to see posts and dialogues by multiple characters, including both from "reality" and from the other world. Veeph and Akro will return and you will meet both other characters from Beek and new characters to this story.

I'm not sure if you were impressed by Shadow Man during the final chapter of Beek, perhaps you might even like him too? In Beaver Creek I'd like to expand further on this area of the world, along with the appearance of other great devils. Would there be a new crisis in the kingdom? I will leave it for you to find out in the game!

And of course, the illustrations won't be absent in Beaver Creek. This time the illustrations will not be photos taken by Beek's phone, but we're going to keep that mechanic secret for now. You may have already seen how Beek sent out the messages without his phone in Beek: Familiar Spirit, so don't be too surprised once you see the new mechanic in Beaver Creek!

Every time we make a game we always want to discuss some philosophy through the story. For Beek series, I treat the core value of the story as "the happiness of helping others". In Beek: Familiar Spirit I hope I had created an emotional story. I'd be glad if you found the story to be satisfying. I wish I can further discuss this topic with the new mechanic of Beaver Creek but sadly I can't talk too much about the story itself right now. You don't want to be spoiled, do you?

At last, I would like to use the poll opportunity of this update to gather some opinions from our patrons. In Beek: Familiar Spirit we set the game to be running in real-time, which makes the alternate reality part more real but it could also be torture to those who want to read the story sooner. So before we move forward on Beaver Creek we would like to know how our players think about it. If you're on Oracle tier or above, please vote for your choice!

Thank you for reading this blog and see you soon!
