In the beginning, it was just curiosity, then it was science. They called it an advancement. A step forward. They talked about it like it was as simple as launching a rocket to the moon.
Genetic engineering.
At first, it seemed promising. The prospect of a “Super human” was promised, and many people were fascinated with the idea of a stronger, faster human. Sure, yeah I thought it would be kind of cool too. I mean who doesn't like themselves a comic book hero. That would have been cool to see. Except the only problem was, it didn't turn out quite like they had planned, and not only that; when it didn't turn out the way they would have liked they just kept trying.
Eventually their science projects turned on them. Isn't that how every story goes though. Man creates beast, beast destroys man. I'm sure there are a few exceptions but you get the gist of it.
The media and governments covered it well at first. Funny story. Turns out that these scientifically advanced super humans-who we now call Vampires-were not the only “Monsters” amongst us. The vampires though weren't afraid of revealing themselves to us. There are many theories as to why the Vampires were first to reveal themselves; some say that the reason they were so keen is because they were once like us, others say that the urge to feed had grown too strong.
Then came the werewolves, though no one is sure how or why the werewolves came to be. The most popular belief is that the whole reason werewolves are around is to destroy the vampires. They say that the werewolves come from nature, created for one sole purpose; to destroy the vampire race.
So the world got screwed over. A bunch of monsters rose up, humanity lives in small communes.
But hey. We've survived worse... probably.
