Kelsey, Thea, and Dawn had always been drawn to the mysterious old toy and animatronics lab on the edge of town. Rumors still swirled about the experiments conducted there years ago—everything from robotics to bizarre transformation technology. Most dismissed the stories as urban legends, but for the three adventurous friends, it was the perfect target for a late-night exploration.
Under the cover of darkness, they made their way to the lab, their flashlights slicing through the dusty air. The lab was surprisingly well-preserved, with gleaming walls and consoles that hummed faintly as if still waiting for someone to bring them to life.
"This place is wild," Thea whispered, brushing her fingers over a panel covered in blinking lights. "Feels like something out of a sci-fi movie."
Dawn, always the most cautious, scanned the room nervously. "Let’s not touch anything. We don’t know what this stuff does."
Kelsey, unable to resist her curiosity, approached a large chamber in the center of the room. It resembled a cylindrical pod with sleek silver panels and wires snaking across its surface. A nearby screen flashed text in a language none of them recognized.
"I bet this is where all the crazy stuff happened," Kelsey said, grinning as she leaned in closer. "Look, there’s a control panel!"
"Kelsey, don’t!" Dawn warned, but it was too late.
Kelsey’s hand brushed a glowing button on the console. Alarms blared, and the chamber doors hissed open, revealing three compartments lined with a strange, glossy material. Before any of them could react, robotic arms extended from the walls, grabbing each of them and dragging them into the pods.
“Kelsey! What did you do?!” Thea yelled, struggling against the mechanical grip, but the arms were too strong.
The pod doors sealed shut, and a faint hiss filled the air as a strange mist enveloped them. The sensation was both cold and warm at once, their skin tingling as the transformation began. They couldn’t see one another, but they could all feel their bodies changing. Their clothes melted away, replaced by a smooth, featureless layer of rubber that encased them entirely. The mist seemed to seep into their very being, their identities feeling distant as the programming began to overwrite their thoughts.
When the pod doors finally reopened, three identical figures stepped out. Each was a smooth, featureless rubber drone sealed into a glossy black toy soldier uniform, complete with polished buttons, sharp white piping, and tall hats adorned with silver trim and feathers. Their movements were stiff and synchronized, their thoughts clouded by the faint hum of new programming urging them to patrol, march, and obey.
Deep inside, Kelsey, Thea, and Dawn could still feel faint traces of themselves, but the compulsion to follow orders was overwhelming. They turned in unison, ready to serve whatever purpose the lab had designed them for. The lab’s lights flickered as the conversion chamber powered down, leaving the three drones standing at attention, waiting for their next command.
