Intro to JID

Part of the conditions for section 8 is that a man can’t live in the house. So if you’re a low income mother with kids, you’ll do whatever to keep a roof over their heads. Even if that means keeping the dad out of the home or at least hiding him when you get visits from the govt. That’s why since it’s beginning the number of single parent households has increased.

Marquis

First time commenting, I really hope you continue with the JID reactions. I know you like Tiny Desk performances, JID has one that I think you’d enjoy

Mikey Leahy

He says you can pronounce each letter like J-I-D or JID. You'll hear him call himself both the more you get into his discography.

KBN

Spilligion is one of my fav albums ever!! Needed during those tough times

Elijah White

She neeedss to do Crack Sandwich

Lique Rhone

i was always so sad that the HiiiPower sample on 2007 never made it onto the streaming version, its a small detail to include but adds to the story since thats the song that J Cole produced for Kendrick on section.80

Ian Xavier Caoili

You have to start from the beginning!! He is an amazing story teller I have seen him 5 times in one year and met him once he’s amazing

Genevieve White

“JID stands for JUMP IN DIRT!!!” (One of his quotes)🔥🔥🖋️

Lagabe

Malice on Community is the verse of the year.

algorerhythm

I see where you're coming from but I have to disagree, not only is it a fantastic song, but what better way to get introduced to an artist than through a song where they tell you their whole comeup story?

algorerhythm

Salem knows this is his channel! I'm just waiting patiently for that Churu video to drop 😁

MrDavis

Just a heads up with the earthgang reference Earthgang is a duo that Jid features with a good bit, Earthgang and Jid are also a part of a much larger group called Spillage Village. Its definitely worth checking out at least the songs hes ft'd on, they also have a Spillage Village tiny desk

hashpip3

I love how my thumbnail didn’t save 😹 will fix that tomorrow

Vambie_Reacts

So appreciate you! I imagine that is not an easy and often thankless job so thank you for all you do 🫶🏻🙌🏻

Vambie_Reacts

Loved the side bar about look up not left or right politically! Eat the rich and feed the poor. I love these intros I love hearing your thoughts on more and more artists you come from such a different perspective from me (British guy) it's just great stuff! (Still advocating for some Dave/simz hehe)

Harry

I love jid cause we both played college football,

Ron Cash

Love this happening! JID journey needs to include his Spillage Village side quests

I work in state benefit administration (currently implementing the first public long-term care insurance benefit in the country!) and you are right on with how you're thinking about the barriers to access across intersecting programs, impacts of working on benefits even though neither minimum wage nor benefits are enough to survive on alone, etc. There's tons of misinformation and over complication. We have to do better. Love that artists like JID and Clipse are bringing more attention to the real problem(s).

Alison Eldridge

I appreciate your breakdown of government assistance after listening to the Malice verse. I've had people try to gaslight me into thinking there's benefits to removing social security programs. And as a Canadian, it's difficult to get a full grasp of the U.S. situation to effectively argue back against the gaslighting.

Dipal

You should watch Outkast's induction into the Rock and Roll hall of fame, both Tyler and JID performed in it and did amazing!

Lucas Schekin

Perfect picks

Lique Rhone

Please do the Forever Story. JID really showed who he is all through that album

Supa

Vambie covering The Wire would be dope

I’LL PUT A BULLET IN BOB THE FUCKIN BUILDER 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯 On a more serious note tho, I think you might have been thinking of King v. Smith (1968), which overturned the AFDC program’s man-in-the-house policy, that used to disqualify single moms, if *any* man had even dared to step into their house more than once. Many states still continued to deny AFDC benefits tho, if the father (or a father figure) was living there, hence Malice's line. And the AFDC program only was brought to an end (in 1997), because of how unpopular it had become in the 80s; after the very system, that had propagated this particular household dynamic in predominantly Black neighborhoods, became under fire during Reagan's tenure with his racist ass "welfare queen" rhetoric... Though obviously PRWORA – which replaced AFDC & planned to make single moms shoulder the burden with the help of a husband/bf now, so the government would have to pay less (instead of yk... fixing the root issue) – could and would not undo the decades of broken-home socialization.

klairvoyage

You are correct on the snap/bet thing; it couldnt be a two parent house hold and/or only the mother was eligible so the father/father figure physically could not live there

Jonathan Riley

I hope this becomes a proper deep dive in time for when I see him live in April 🙏🏼 either way I’ll be here, this man is a genius

Xhakari

You were almost there for Malice's Section 8 bar. It's a reference to an old rule called "man in the house" where families aren't eligible for section 8 living when there was a man to act as the "breadwinner". So to go around that, many dads would distance themselves from their families to allow them to be eligible for section 8 living" Section 8 living, treat it like a timeshare.", the family shares the apartment with other family members and they "rotate", but of all the family members rotating, there never was a father because that would make the family ineligible for section 8 living "never seen a father that was government devised there.". Your rant on how bullshit the eligibility requirements are applies to what Malice is trying to say. The man in the house rule was a very oppressive, sexist rule and easily abusable by the government to really make cheap housing as hard as possible to get, especially in marginalized communities (the whole point of the song). Malice has consistently been writing the most thought provoking, heart wrenching and genius verses this year. He's a lyrical genius.

Chubbs

Never was my intro as well as meditate with earthgang

Ding

Ikr I feel like these aren't the best songs to get into his stuff lol

connor e

Yesss jid is amazing! 2007 is more so the culmulation of a whole journey though. It's like listening to the heart part 6 off gnx as your first Kendrick song

Dratini
