Clipse | Tiny Desk Performance

***update I did some research and wanted to correct my statements in this video. Luckily, 'Tiny Desk' has been separated enough from the parent company and only 2% of it's funding came through that pathway so Tiny Desks are safe at this time🙌🏼

Also love seeing a fellow adhd white girl who loves music totally falling in love with them 💜 I’ve loved them since the grinding era but it’s hard to find anyone in my peer group that can appreciate or even like them

Lena Pond

I love that you were like “is this sampled? I’ve heard this!” on grinding… when I’m guessing you heard it circa 2002 (which was my intro to clipse) and you didn’t realize it was them… because damn they have matured from their early 2000’s coke bars!

Lena Pond

Grindin is thee undisputed hardest rap in hip hop, Pharrell and Chad blacked out with that one, to think Pharrell threatened to give the beat to Jay Z if the Clipse didn’t make it to the studio in time lmao

Paul Smitherman

My fave thing about pusha live is how little he blinks, lol. Also how push is the ego and mal is the consionce (however you spell that word)

Szymon Tusting

Watching. You fall in love with them mid video is hilarious 😂. also youve 100% heard grinding it was their breakout hit it came out in 02

TheUptownSound

You probably 100% heard grindin in passing or in a commercial or the instrumental. It’s a legendary track that put the Clipse on main stream . Also love how much you love them they’re REAL HIP-HOP! Def should do Doechii’s Tiny Desk performance it’s FANTASTIC 💯

Wakandan King D

You know grindin from the end of the chains and whips music video, the two girls were singing it. But it’s also a classic and a giant part/ catalyst of Pharrell’s legacy lol

drew tomevi

You should definitely check out hell hath no fury!

Jool

OG. She ain’t ready for Scarface yet. lol

Scotty

Clipse classic!! Another Tiny Desk worth watching is Scarface. Soooo good

Jerm

you know Grindin is a CLASSIC when even Vambie knows it lmaoo that song was mainstream AS FK

Tafari Johnson

Tyler’s tiny desk is classic - have rewatched a million times and OMG the thought of Vambie reacting to the DOECCI tiny desk. Vambie, If you are reading this and you EVER have some time on your hands that would be incredible wow 🤩 ✨

Miss Liss

Vambie slowly growing into a Hip Hop fan means something to me man… she’s a Clipster now🥲

Lagabe

Hey when are we getting the wolf reaction? Great album not as dark

Khari Vaughn

thank you! yes, I started adding them to the YouTube videos honestly didn't mean to add it to the patreon version 😹 I had been working on creating a bunch of YouTube versions of the past patreon videos before working on this video, so I think it was just habit 😹

Vambie

so glad I'm not alone in this I was like you cannot take it this away from me 😹

Vambie

I think I made one the summer before 7th grade, which was 2007, so I was either 11 or 12, depending on when it happened in the summer. 😹

Vambie

Clipse also performed Birds Don’t Sing on one of the late night shows (I looked it up: it’s Jimmy Fallon). I think the song’s important to them and they really want to honor their parents during this press run. It’s a gorgeous song with such an important sentiment!

Tessara Dudley

Vambie is a Clipster! Nice!

Dave

Weren't you like 8 when MySpace was out? Lol. Tom tried to save us all

Rob Wright

Till the casket drops is their only record not fully produced by Pharrell, and he did like half that record. He’s also done a lot of pushas solo stuff too

BJ Miller

This is what we call a W upload

Owari

The MySpace rant is so real. I waited an extremely long time to switch to facebook too

Lexi Browning

That last part with the guy drumming the beat on the desk is a throwback to when this song dropped there wasn't a lunch room in America that didn't have someone doing this beat on the lunch table.

Supa

Love that you reacted to this and got to see Pusha's evil joker laugh lmao

Gregory Smith

Is the outro graphic new? Either way, I approve

Jyn Jilly

Gene = Malice’s real name. I think it’s just three siblings, two boys (Pusha & Malice) along with their sister Dede. Malice/Gene is the eldest sibling who found their parents once they passed, per interviews.

Marquis

Love you for doing this, the true people’s champ lol 💯

Craig

In black neighborhood grade through high schools, grindin was the single most popular song in the early 2000s as we would play it on lunch tables, girls would make the beat using their hands and feet etc

Ron Cash

Seen enough We need that Lord Willin reaction 😮‍💨

Trysten Leon

Ab-soul has a good tiny desk

Alex Illsley

Fun thought: back in the day, hip-hop artists used to do live in-office performances, to get signed. Imagine being the intern in the office, that day one of these legends was auditioning for a deal.

Guzman the Revelator

Can we applaud the fact that Pharrell and/or the Neptunes basically produced damn near their whole catalog, we love childhood friendships that turn into business relationships

Tristyn Davis

But ummm yes more clipseee

Tristyn Davis

The grindin sing is just very popular it’s all original so you probably heard the song somewhere

Tristyn Davis

Everything about this performance was awesome. The breath control, delivery, mannerisms, setlist and of course the interactions between the brothers

randomdudeoninternet606

Tiny desk is all feels, nostalgia and the pride between fans and artists we share for the music. Like stated previously about kids doing the grinding beat on tables. It’s shows pharrell genius. To make a beat so simple that kids can copy it on desks but so intricate at the same time. The grinding beat has to be, either the most impactful, best , or greatest beat of that generation. Thanks for doing a request vambie. It was fun.

Scotty

Only thing I really wanted you to catch was their delivery, and that Socrates bar lol. And you delivered!!

Tony

One of my absolute fav tiny desks!!

Miss Liss

Also the other tiny desk that I remember seeing the audience in was for Juvenile & Manny Fresh - the whole performance was a party 😅

Miss Liss

The banging on the desk was requested by the band because it’s what an entire generation of kids were doing at lunch tables when Grindin debuted. That’s why the ppl behind the camera went crazy - there’s more comments about this in the video probably.

Miss Liss

Recommendations: COLORS live performance, Genius videos of them explaining Let God Sort Em Out Lyrics (super short and entertaining), Jimmy Fallon live performance. So Be It music video is a must see and there’s one for Chains & Whips as well. I know there’s a lot on your plate but the Hell Hath No Fury album is a CLASSIC 💞

Miss Liss

You should also do Tyler's Tiny Desk after reacting to Flower Boy, and whenever you get to Doechii you will absolutely LOVE hers. Hers is one of my favorite Tiny Desks I've seen.

algorerhythm

Grindin' was the lead single to their first album (or rather, their first album that actually came out) and was a big hit. Apparently (I'm both a bit too young and a lot too European to know first hand) it was THE beat kids would bang on desks or lunch tables at school and have their homies freestyle to it - the drummer (Daru Jones) doing that at the end was a tribute to that, and apparently the NPR producers asked them to do that last minute.

algorerhythm

Also Tyler did a great tiny desk you should watch after Flower Boy. We need a Kendrick one!!!!

Jay D

IIRC Taylor’s tiny desk showed the crowd too!

Jay D

The reason you feel like you've heard Grindin' is because the song was a MASSIVE track. Bits and pieces of it have been used everywhere.

devildham

mac miller has the best tiny desk ever in mine and most people’s opinions, all the songs come from his album “swimming” witch i HIGHLY recommend

James Nash

Thank you for this!

himothy1017

Also grindin was pretty popular thats why you might have heard it

Lucas Martins Soares

Please do react to hell hath no fury or lord willin! They are the albums that are absolute classics for clipse

Lucas Martins Soares

This is one of my favourite performances on NPR, they sounded so clear, breath control impeccable. Glad you reacted to this

Rich

omg what a pleasant surprise!

1234

oh hell yes

algorerhythm

Yessss!! Didn’t know if/when you’d get a chance to fit more Clipse into your schedule — excited to check out, THANK YOU!!!

Miss Liss
