A character painting for enigma530 of FA / newdarkcloud of Twitter/Bluesky! The Planeswalking detective, Enigma, is a master of manipulating the mind and senses. So much so that you might not trust your eyes if you find yourself at the end of his blade.

Woah, more Enigma! A more mature, older Enigma, on the job and ready to strike. Enigma trusted me with two mock-up Magic: The Gathering cards he wanted art for of his character as a Legendary Creature (the previous investigation piece) and a Legendary Planeswalker. For this one, I took a bit of inspiration from Tommy Arnold's painting of "Syncopate", one of my favorite MTG card arts out there. While I think I didn't get the distortion in the same way that Mr. Arnold did, I think I landed in a similarly visually satisfying area! It took a bit of extra time in the oven to get it done and clean it up a bit, trying to hit that middle ground of "readable at a small size, but somewhat jarring when viewed up close".

You'll also find the undistorted, simple magic version attached for those that want to see it without the wobbling effect. :)

And this is the other project I had going on! When I mentioned the time split of one character versus four, this is what I mean -- both pieces were started at the same time, but gosh, I know there's a bit of a contrast. Which my perfectionist brain wants to nail me on, but I know I can't just beat myself up.

Since I just uploaded yesterday, I don't really have a big update or background thoughts! So this extra will be a little shorter. My next projects are another muscle pin-up, and then a sketch of a rather hefty OC, so hopefully one or the other to come very shortly after this! Sketch hasn't started yet, but the pin-up is going well, I think.
