Hey, guys!
So the book is coming along well, will be pretty close to half drafted by the end of the month here. Part of the process in a book 1 is establishing the foundation for all the lore and world etc, which of course includes maps!
I figured I would post a tiny bit of lore stuff. Most of this relates to the events leading up to this book, particularly the Spellfire Wars, a series of conflicts in the industrializing world where the continent ends up with several multi-national factions and neutral countries stuck between them. Most of this book is set in Imilath, a hotly contested piece of real estate where lots of the actual fighting took place.
More updates soon, but read on if you wish!
Angar Thuul: The isolationist dwarven kingdom. They developed black powder long before magical rune powder and they eschew magic.
The Ikibrian Commonwealth: Diverse, Expansionist, Unstable. Forged late as a counterbalance to the other factions, the nations have little in common aside from all being Archonites (the religion of the Archons). The Ikibrian capital of Canith Mir is one of the most important cities in the world. Ikibris is the setting for Dread Knight.
The Krazzen Alliance: Faithful, Imperialistic, Innovative. Generally blamed for starting the wars, the Krazzen have fully embraced the industrial magitek revolution. One of their major ideological factions is the Final Edict, paladins of Aodar who believe in evangelism through conquest. You may remember this from Dark Covenant.
The Immortal Court: Reclusive, Secular, Timeless. Ancient empire of the Eladrin sorcerers (high elves) who rejected wizardry and religion. The Nareeshi (dark elves) and Tahari (wood elves) have long since split off, greatly weakening an empire that pre-dates humanity.
Saurian Isles: Birthplace of dragons and dragonkin, the saureks worship ancient dragon gods rather than the Archons or primal deities.
Tanic Kingdoms: The classic "dragons and knights" monarchical society, highly resistant to change and innovation. Home to knights of all Edicts of Aodar, took numerous defeats in the war for them to finally start embracing magitek in the form of dragoons and cannons.
Mincalis: The city of the Spellbinders, now the largest, most diverse, and most advanced city in the world, with representatives from every recognized nation. Home to the Spellbinder's Conclave and the Farathan Assembly.
