a peek behind the development hood! (a very killer chat! christmas)

hello hello! i am here with a little writeup about the shenanigans behind "a very killer chat! christmas" that made it the game it was :) featuring: our developmental silliness, cats, past references, and more!

"a very killer chat! christmas" was quite interesting to figure out on the writing end. on one hand, it had to continue from the ending of "killer chat!"; but on the other hand, i couldn't be too revealing of some of the killer chat! cast's backstories and storylines, as those would be best told in the definitive edition of the game. so in the end, it became a middle ground which shed light on some of the cast's backstories, whilst keeping intrigue for the "killer chat! definitive edition" game (and perhaps other dlc's, if budget provides...)

my favourite part in writing was figuring out the dream sequences! i loved getting into the past of "killer chat!" before our lovely writer joins the server. it also was a blast, inserting moments into the game like:

(pictured: rosesrot, AKA "li ⛓ 🥀 (goreboy)", giving munstxr, AKA "black hole explosion ronin" unhinged misaki.)

 i also perhaps had a little too much fun inserting "gluttony gods" references into the angel and ronin past dream. if it isn't clear neither ronin nor angel aren't mentally doing very well... i hope ronin's projection of ther-onto-angel absolutely shines through here.

another fun fact is that our composer, lorraine, deliberately referenced the soundtrack of "gluttony gods" when composing for the past dream sequence. you can listen to them side-by-side in this unlisted youtube video!

sounds familiar... 

speaking of easter eggs, we had a lot of fun referencing "killer chat!" in "a very killer chat! christmas"! did you catch our reference to tumblr err i mean... tea? our gui artist, owl, initially was going to make generic medals for the game, but then was struck by divine inspiration...

if it wasn't confirmed before that ronin, sorry i mean ERROR! UNKNOWN was a tumblr user, then it is now. owl was also in charge of making the gift art for the killer chat! love interests, which led to many interesting texts.

(i swear, i didn't kidnap him to make "a killer chat! christmas", guys...)

 (also, i think owl and sophie also had a little too much fun making the pupcorn! copy and graphics...)

on the art side, here is a sketch draft of the initial christmas group art that munstxr had in mind. they ended up switching this out for this other sketch draft of christmas group art that we all now know and love, as they thought that this initial sketch wasn't dynamic enough and didn't show everyone's faces off very well.

munstxr also gave us some awesome commentary on the uno card choices that each player had, which i'd like to share with you patrons :D
