When people hit me with the "One Piece pacing isn't good" I just have to sit back and laugh. These arcs felt like PTSD they went by so fast. Generational run indeed. Just how a long orchestral piece needs time to breathe, Oda needs time to build you up before he takes your breathe away. Honestly, people with that criticism don't even write coherent sentences half the time, maybe they don't realize that that's actually not the best way to hold someone's attention for a long period of time. If it's all gas no breaks, then its just too chaotic to remember. Pacing and movement happening TOO slow? Snooze fest. You literally HAVE to strike a balance believe it or not, these are the rules of composing Music at least. I'd imagine the longform writing version of that includes writing some "boring" stuff on purpose at key moments. The reason i think it might be intentional mid is the PLACEMENT of the mid arcs in One Piece their perfect in my opinion.

To echo Pademi's point, if the idea is wanting the authentic one piece experience i do believe that getting very close to oda's vision (one pace) is the way. Oda is soo good and its almost disrespectful what Toei has done to this story. Starting with the next arc the pacing problems are gonna start to kick into high gear. I just want one piece to be the best it can be for us all 😭🙏

Yep ppl far enjoy straight to the point, not beating around the bush pacing as apposed to slow asf pacing that milks & stretches to infinity. One pace cant fix toeis slow animation & bad adaptation fully but it helps significantly by cutting out all the mixed in filler. Simply a fact, that toei makes the story mediocre when it slows it to a crawl with its bloated bullshit. I trust WIT STUDIO REMAKE to bring the manga to life the way it was meant to!

As someone who rarely advocates for One Pace, I think you guys will almost certainly have a better experience using it for Impel Down. If you're planning a small binge or maybe even three-episode drops, then it might be okay. But given your current release schedule, I feel like you guys will definitely not wanna spend the next two months in ID lol. It's a bloated *thirty* episodes, which will likely feel even longer since you guys already have so much hype built up for Marineford. One Pace cuts the episode count from 30 all the way down to 10 (which is kind of absurd but goes to show how much Toei dragged out the arc). Using it will really help keep the hype up for y'all while also flowing much more smoothly into MF imo. I know some of the geks aren't the biggest fans of One Pace so there's no pressure at all! But just thought I'd give my two cents.

I love this take! This is exactly how I feel too. Whenever I look back on a arc, I always remember how good it was and how nostalgic it is. I rarely have negative thoughts on an arc after watching it with this show. I just love this story so much, not even pacing can make me hate it. The most criticism I've had with an arc was like 2 or 3 times which isn't bad considering I still enjoyed it

I kwon it’s an unpopular opinion but I love the pacing of one piece and the arcs that are the least popular like Sky Island and Thriller Bark. I love everything single arc of one piece even the ones that at the time felt like it took me forever to finish because when I look back I feel nostalgia and I am like “this thing a watched 200 episodes ago is meant for that !!” The writing and foreshadowing in this show is insane. I know they are working on a new pacing for One piece that make it like 700 episodes shorter but I’m so attached to the 1000+ format that even on a rewatch I’ll be watching the 1000+ episodes..

Zoro’s backstory was not in arlong park. It was after syrup village and before baratie. Also in the manga Zoro’s backstory is actually part of romance dawn and happens when luffy first meets zoro at his execution site at shell town.

Carter one pace didn’t actually cut Skypiea by half. The time saved that one pace calculated and that viewers recite, include recaps and endings which is about 3 minutes per episode and accounts for a lot of the ‘cut time’. I’d say of actual new episode content of skypiea, one pace cut out like a quarter at best.

It’s hilarious how so many villains in One Piece have adorable interactions with animals (like Lucci and Hattori, Buggy and his lion) while our heroes are out here kicking the shit out of every creature they see and calling Chopper emergency food. W rankings. I’m just suprised how much some of the lows (like some fights) in enies lobby brought down the overall arc as a whole for yall lol. Carter saying the "worst of the worst" just makes me think he is spoiled by existing in a golden age of anime, where so many amazing shows are coming out and getting big budgets, but also you have easy access to all the greatest anime that came in the past. Like yes there are parts of Thriller Bark that have painful pacing, but if you were watching it week to week it was that or having filler, or it being on hiatus for 6 months instead. Thriller Bark has amazing comedy at the start, gives us Brook and the Laboon callback, and as Moria is defeated gives us Kuma right after. I think calling it buns is dramatic personally. Go watch some Naruto filler if you want to see worst of the worst. Or some of the one season and then nothing shows that no one remembers because they were ok at best and never got an ending.

genuine answer to why there's no romance in OP, because oda's misogynistic side back then said: this is a shonen manga aimed at young boys. and young boys wouldn't find romance interesting. which is why i found you guys' reaction along with my husband's and teen brother really funny and interesting. i was never into the romance aspect of media and was never interested in shipping especially more so in one piece since there's no hinting to it except for characters showing affection (boa and sanji) but when i got my husband into it he thought i was hiding the fact there will be romance in the future. my teen brother texted me one time about how he thinks luffy and nami are cute together. it was always guys around me seeking it out.

Carter I promise you most of the lows of Alabasta are the filler parts 😭🙏. Yeah the fights against the other Baroque Works agents aren’t that good even in the manga (except the Zoro one obviously) but every other bad part of Alabasta is anime only. I’m not saying your rating is wrong either, you can only rate it based on what you’ve seen. I just hope you guys react to the Wit remake whenever it comes out because a lot of the earlier arcs, Alabasta in particular, are a lot better without the pacing issues and filler stuff.

It’s insane to think even where the Geks are now currently in the plot, the narrative has so much insanity up ahead and further down the line. Oda is an Alien truly, especially with One Piece’s later arcs where long-buried plot points connect with insane complexity that it gives the story a biblical weight that hits like nothing else…No other series has left such a profound mark on me as One Piece.

Alabasta is my favorite arc mostly cause Crocodile really sets a difference tone to me the only garbage in the arc is the fights except Zoros and Luffys! But the build up to Alabasta is kinda sick. Like they meant to go to Alabasta once they met Vivi at Wiskey Peak.

Arlong Park is still a top 5 or top 6 arc for me by this point. The emotional hit of Nami’s backstory, and her send off with the pinwheel is amazing. Plus, I think we learn more about Luffy as a character during that arc than most others: walking fearlessly between the fishmen, not listening to Nami’s backstory, giving Nami his hat, his speech about not being able to survive without help from his friends, destroying Nami’s work room, and shouting that Nami is his friend right after the battle all encapsulate his character perfectly. It’s a hard arc to top for me.

But why am I acting like I'm watching this for the first time🤨 Also on this rewatch Luffy is certainly one of my top characters when on the first watch he was one of those characters that I was annoyed with the most. So far Anything maybe except Saobaody and Water 7 above Enies Lobby is a diabolical take. Might be the worst take I've ever seen ngl. Going merry farewell Rob Lucci vs Luffy Robins story Gear 2 and 3 Declaration of war against the government Usopp not being annoying the whole arc Enies Lobby is the most impactful part of the story except saobaody in the show so far. The only bad parts are from Sanji fighting that soap lady 2 episodes, and like 3 episodes showcasing the agents and Franky's fight is 1 episode. Water 7 even had spagetti man fighting... In the manga he jumps onto the Merry soon after his clash with Smoker and just tosses the vivre card to Luffy before leaving. It's a pretty short reunion. (Chapters 158 and 159, if you're interested)

Loved the ranking at the end boys! In the future tho, I would definitely recommend one pace for post time skip. The fact that y'all ranked skypeia so high and talked about the pacing being important to you just gives more weight to that argument. It's important to me that the original good pacing of an arc doesn't get bogged down by the later anime pacing and the later arcs definitely fall victim to that. I as a viewer, just want y'all to have the best experience because it also makes for the best reactions. As for impel down, I would one pace it personally, but it's doable in the og pacing. SBD and AL got me fully hooked to the show, totally different vibe from the first half of the story and I feel the story writing is more advanced. By this point, we HAVE been told the name Jinbei, but it was a one-off mention. He was mentioned back in Arlong park - episode 31 - when Yosaku is explaining the dangers of the Grand Line, he mentions Jinbei being one of the Warlords. Because it's such a one-off mention, it feels, especially since it's been so long ago, that the Live Action spoiled him, but he was mentioned at roughly the same point in the story. In the LA they just make it more relevant to the plot at the time by having Nezumi mention him when he's doing his "The marines aren't racist, some of our best friends are Fishmen" spiel. Which lodges itself into the mind better than Yosaku doing exposition for a few minutes.

I’m pretty confident that “trash” arcs are over guys. There’s still some stuff that may be annoying but there’s no bad arcs after thriller bark. You can really see how Oda’s writing is evolving throughout the years and it’s common in one piece for every next arc to be better than the previous one. If you are sensitive to pacing it will be an issue, but I feel like you will still LOVE the rest of the show 100 times more than you do now
