For a lot of anime (solo levelling) as an example, once a main character acquires a strong power, they're pretty strong straight away. People don't like watching Deku showing so much vulnerability and lack of 'competence' and 'coolness' throughout the seasons. Not to mention the great side-chracters in this show who can overshadow him, haters want Deku to be better, stronger and cooler faster. Someone like Deku, who was given this quirk, people expect or want him to be an All Might level threat as soon as possible. Similar to the frustrations you guys had at the beginning when you complained about why Deku couldn't just train harder and work on his quirk to stop hurting himself. Other watchers are just as impatient. So the lack of patience causes people to dislike him, when in reality, Deku's journey is very much realistic. He is a great main character.

I already knew it was coming but my heart was beating so fking fast anyway. The anticipation and dread was killing me. Putting aside the shocking scene, I agree with Carter. I love seeing Katsuki's more calm, contemplative side. Because he is perfectly capable of controlling his outbursts when he needs to. Him training with Izuku willingly and it being exposed by All Might as his way of atoning for bullying Izuku since they were kids to middle school really shows how far he's come as a person. His character development has been slow but steady, and infinitely satisfying. He may be a crash out, he may be competitive beyond belief, he may have a foul mouth and had an inferiority complex up until recently, but Katsuki has never stopped being himself. He's simply become able to look back on his past and evaluate himself from an objective standpoint – and become able to regulate his emotions better. Were his actions towards Izuku shitty and born out of his inability to healthily communicate his aversion towards Izuku's perceived arrogance and persistence? Yes. And he still isn't the best at communication, because his words are always rough, even if the intention behind them isn't. But like All Might said, he's changed because he's let go of the distaste he used to feel towards Izuku's self-sacrificing nature (it's what pissed him off so much when they were younger). Now, he worries about Izuku instead. Because he knows him best among all the characters in the series. They grew up together, even if their childhood was tainted by memories of fear and disgust. He KNOWS Izuku will do anything if it means he can save people. And he knows Izuku will do that at the cost of his own life. Izuku EMBODIES the spirit of a hero, he is what Stain says is the true meaning of being a hero. But in embodying that spirit, he doesn't care about what happens to him, just like he said in ep 9 when he was 1V1ing Shigaraki. He just keeps going even though he risks losing One For All, risks dying, risks never being able to use his arms again, etc. And all of that is the worst possible outcome for the world. Izuku loses his senses when he gets into that hero mindset, and while he is objectively the only one who can stand up against Shigaraki in that moment (Endeavour's weakened and exhausted, and most other pro heroes are down), he doesn't realise that even he, the successor, needs help. He's been carrying the burden of being All Might's successor and the inheritor of One For All (a quirk whose sole purpose is to defeat All For One) this whole time, so he doesn't think to put any of his friends or other people in danger by asking them for help. It’s unthinkable to him that he should put others in the line of fire just because he can’t handle one villain. And this really ties in to his philosophy of being “a hero that no one has to worry about”. Because if he is to put into practice this philosophy, he needs to be able to do everything himself aka winning, saving, defeating villains. He doesn’t see that it’s not working. KATSUKI is worried about him, as are his mentors and friends. And Katsuki is the only one who recognises this self-sacrificing habit of his – this doomed tendency that nearly always puts him at death's door. He's afraid that Izuku will really die this time. Which is why he tries to find another way for them to win (ofc, finding ways to secure victory is already in his nature, and not necessarily solely because of Izuku, but it definitely amplifies his need to find a better solution to this seemingly hopeless fight). When Izuku looked like he was on the verge of getting stabbed by Shigaraki, he jumped in without thinking. Because what he saw in his mind was the past: how badly he treated Izuku before, how he showed explicit weakness in front for him for the first time during their second fight at Ground Beta in S3, and lastly, how he rejected the hand that Izuku, with his self-sacrificing “bullshit”, offered him when he fell into the creek as a child. We can see him thinking of that memory in particular as he monologues about his body moving before he could think to do it, that he's reaching his now more grown up hand towards Izuku's. He WANTS to atone. He WANTS to take hold of that hand now that he knows Izuku never meant to look down on him even as a kid. There was only his kindness, his concern, his attempt at bridging the gap btw them that widened because Katsuki was too prideful to see his kindness(the attempt at helping being fueled solely by Izuku’s desire to help others). He sees that all now, and he regrets not taking his hand back then, which is why he reaches for it now. And by reaching for it, his first instinct was to shield Izuku from danger and take the hit for him, even at the cost of his own life. In that one moment, Katsuki BECAME what Izuku has always been: a self-sacrificing hero. And this all ties in to All Might’s words at the beginning of the series: that good heroes almost always have stories told about them from when they were young, the stories being that their bodies moved before their minds could think. And that’s exactly what Katsuki did, and what Izuku often does. Whether or not that moment of instinct before conscious decision leads to devastation or victory is another matter altogether.

2025-09-07 13:24:01 +0000 UTCThis comments is 100% with no ulterior implications but the way you guys and especially Jack was saying that Twice should’ve taken Hawks help and rehabilitated himself shows that you guys are well-adjusted normal guys. By this I mean that you have a very normal and straightforward understanding of his position but ultimately in the case of people like Twice who has fallen and fallen again there was almost no choice whatsoever other than to protect the only people that have shown him companionship when he was at his lowest point. With how good of a guy Twice was and how much self-hatred he had there is absolutely no way he could’ve chosen to help himself rather than his friends. It is absolutely valid that you guys are blessed enough that the morally good people in society have showed you kindness so in return you were able to choose well rather than have a similar situation like Twice. Not only that, but I think a big part of Twice’s decision had to do with the “arrogance” that he perceived in Hawks attempt to “save him”, to say that his connections and bonds are wrong. Obviously that’s not at all how Hawks was acting but for someone like Twice that’s how it came across. Like he said ‘What right do you have to tell me that I was unlucky. I was glad to be here’. In a way, Twice is a very Naruto (the anime) coded as that’s a major theme in that show - broken people forgotten by society find mentorship and friendship in bad people (Haku with Zabuza, Kimimaro with Orochimaru)

Cause she is mentally ill now, but her quirk and mental state developed horribly due to the environment she grew up in and how it was dealed with. She first murdered someone in her high-school year, as shown, after she couldn't hold it in anymore. And she murdered the guy she was in love with. Crying while drinking his blood (s5). Keep in mind after that she was basically homeless and on the run, wandering the streets until hearing of stain and the LOV. It ties in with all the members of the league: Shiggy doesn't blame the abuse of his father for becoming a villain but the lack of responsibility from the public and basically that old lady walking away. Because he realised, hero society has gotten so cushy thanks to All Might, that they are unable to do the base minimum in terms of helping others cause "a hero will surly show up". He also hated that they look for responsibility within heros, without considering the individual behind the hero or the "villain". And those are actually pretty valid points, especially aware to Deku, who just fought Gentle (another society reject) and lost a life and almost lost a small kid for simply following orders and to Endeavour who has been a horrible person until very recently. Or how we learned, that some heros really only step in, if their quirks match. So Shiggy too is upset with "what makes a hero. Because you don't understand it. This is why we have heros and villains"

2025-09-07 06:15:29 +0000 UTCI think that, even though nothing excuses the villains for hurting innocent people, there is something to be said about how a hero society has created a lot of these issues like the bystander effect, racism, judgement on what's a "good" quirk vs a "bad", valuing people based on how strong a person's quirk is, etc. Even though it was for a good cause, Shimura still abandoned her child at a young age and that's all he carried with him. Shigaraki was an abused child walking through the streets and was ignored by everyone until AFO was able to manipulate him. Toga was demonized almost immediately and was treated like a freak even by her parents. And then we have Katsuki who gained both a superiority and inferiority complex because the world only saw him for his quirk and idolized him for it without treating him like an actual person who's allowed to ask for help without feeling like it's a weakness. The complications of hero society and what it actually means to be a hero is one of the most interesting parts of the series!

While we can all agree that his actions as part of the League of Villains were wrong (aka assisting in kidnapping Katsuki, which got heroes injured/killed + assisting the LoV in general while they commit heinous atrocities that harm normal, innocent civilians), everything that he's done has always been because he considers the LoV his family. He said it himself, that he was blessed to have been friends with the LoV, who accepted him and gave him a place to belong despite his trauma and never demanded anything of him besides his allegiance. They could have tried to force him to use his quirk for their cause (aka Sad Man's Parade), but they didn't, unlike Re-Destro's henchman Skeptic who attempted to win him over to their side forcefully. They simply provided him somewhere he could be himself, and since they're all a bunch of oddballs and screw-ups, he fit right in as someone who was cast away by society (due to unfortunate circumstances). He isn't quite villainous like some of the LoV members, which is why it's so easy to like him as a character. He values friendship and feels unbearably responsible and guilty that his carelessness regarding sharing top secret information resulted in the death of a previous friend in the LoV (Magne, who died by Overhaul's hands in S4) and the current raid that's going on in the villa. It's not entirely his fault, but he trusted the wrong person because he wanted to see the good in Hawks. He wanted to believe that a "hero" was also a human being like him, who happens to feel suppressed in society and wants a way out. His empathy caused him to mistake Hawks' calculated moves as sincerity, and though this is no fault of his own, his trust wound up biting him in the rear horribly. Since Twice is a good person by nature (aka he tries to protect his friends even at the cost of his own life - which is smth a good person would absolutely do), his words have some semblance of sense to them. He's not killing people cause he's "evil". However, because he's considered a villain and the friends who he'll kill for are considered villains and thus targets of elimination (more suppression), his noble intentions are twisted in the eyes of society and are seen as "evil". He's no longer "protecting his friends", he's "harbouring dangerous criminals" while being considered one as well. It's why Hawks abided by the Hero Commission's orders to kill him if he resisted capture, because Twice helping his friends would mean the potential loss of the heroes' side and destruction of the country. But in essence, wanting to protect your friends is not wrong. So there's a huge moral dilemma involved in his death, and Hawks knows that, which is why he tries to put aside any emotions he might have towards Twice as a human, and goes for the kill heartlessly despite Twice desperately trying to do smth that would make him a "good person" by definition.

His legs moved on his own I love that call back that was my favorite moment. The impact and build to that moment is beautifully done. Shed tears on that part. Him protecting deku and realizing his faults. Bakugo’s character development is insane. Yeah people that hate on deku are legit weirdos or people who never even watched the show. Deku is definitely above so many MCs. Can’t wait for these next few episodes it gets so spicy 😭😭

That said, can you imagine the agony of watching this week by week? It was awful!! The way the tension racks up, and the stakes, which were already so high, just go absolutely off the rails! Shigaraki has turned from a serious threat into an actual monster. Also Gigantomachia just ripping through highly populated areas at 100km/hr (62mph) travelling from about 80km away (50 miles) is just crazy. I get why they call him the Disaster Walker. Anyways, great reaction to all of it so far! It's not done yet though boys, so be sure to strap in!

Twice was a good person at heart, but like a lot of the villains he got dealt a terrible hand and fell into villainy. But Hawks was in an impossible spot where Twice’s quirk made him a huge threat, and letting him go would’ve cost countless innocent lives. Hawks even tried giving him a chance. It’s tragic on both sides, and it shows the heavy cost of being a hero in this world.

Instead of some untouchable powerhouse, he starts off as this nerdy, bullied kid with a dorky hero name and a costume that looks like he made it in his basement, and that makes people write him off. But that’s exactly the POINT. He is just like Peter Parker—both losers, both got bullied, and neither were “cool” on paper. Yet their entire story is carried by how strong their ideals of heroism are. Deku isn’t meant to be flashy, he’s meant to be relatable and an underdog. And just like Spider-Man, that’s what makes him one of the most heroic characters out there. Media illiterate people can’t comprehend that this is literally the whole message of MHA.

I remember sobbing for Twice, but also understanding that Hawks had to kill him, there was no other choice. I wish him and Hawks ride in the sunset starting their new friendship😔. I will say Dabi was getting on my nerves, ridiculing Hawks for killing Twice and saying how heroes aren't supposed to kill. Meanwhile, they killed how many people?? Ironic I get where Shigaraki is coming from when he was giving his speech and end it with "You'll never understand, that's why there are heroes and villains." Based on how everyone grew up, lived, and how they were treated by the hero society, it makes sense why they want to destroy it. HOWEVER, I will keep standing with the heroes. I'm not letting you kill people. If I was living in this universe I would 100% be a hero (but if I had a Windex cleaner as a quirk, I would definitely be a villain) AIZAWA IS THE GOATTT …… …and my husband 🤭 MIRKO AND CRUST GOATSS That whole beginning with Mirko was impeccable. And crust is a G for his sacrifice. Fun fact, Rock Lock was locking Aizawa’s eyes during the whole fight so he wouldn’t blink. He comes in clutch. I do feel bad for Endeavor because he is giving all of his ultimate moves and shigaraki still can’t stay down Bakugo had me tearing up when he saved deku without hesitation as well😭😭 I love deku man, can never hate him. Can’t wait for the rest of the binge!!

Twice's death always makes me cry. All the league of villains needed was a hand to reach out to them and tell them it would be okay but the wrong hand reached out as we saw in Shigaraki's back story.

I loved how relentless Endeavor was despite the fact that all those attacks cause him to overheat too. It’s just not as obvious as the way Shigi and Deku’s bodies visibly break down. And anything Bakugou related makes me emotional so I loved seeing your reactions to his body just moving on its own. He’s genuinely my favorite character in the anime. Aizawa my goat 🤍✊ Oh and the sequence of Deku vs Shigi while in float was also one of my favorites. I understand wanting him not to punch his way through, but he had to do what he had to do. 🔥🔥🔥

2025-09-06 21:54:39 +0000 UTCOne episode short of the daaaannnceee. Anyway, Twice really made me sad. His loyalty isn’t to Hawks and the potential of what Hawks was selling him, it’s to his friends. The people who for the first time, made him feel like he belonged. So of course he wouldn’t just take Hawks’ hand, especially not after he felt betrayed by Hawks and that it’s his second time causing his friends to be attacked. He had Mr Compress lose an arm and Mag die because he’d introduced them to overhaul. Just thinking about that, I completely understood why he wouldn’t take Hawks’ hand so even when he stabbed that other hero to death, I was still feeling bad for him. It was the only dub he could give them as he was dying himself… And to Toga’s point, yes, they’re murderers, but that’s essentially the difference between a hero and a villain. The murder. So that’s why she’s asking “if they killed Twice like that, does that mean he wasn’t even a person to them?” And it’s why Shigaraki had his long ass monologue about how Heroe society is essentially fake as they elevate the good and hide the bad, like how a hand wasn’t extended to him when he was in need as a kid. I remember the first time I listened to his little speech, I thought it was a little dramatic until Toga also snapped and I thought about Twice and I realized they’re essentially all rejects of society who found solace in being villains because they had no other guiding hand. The reason why it’s harder to empathize with them is probably because of how much they embrace their villainy. They’re all good villains, with my favorites being Dabi, Shigi, Twice, Toga (in that order).

2025-09-06 21:42:50 +0000 UTCRegarding what you guys said about the Deku hate, I have a theory. MHA was, for all intents and purposes, the "main" shonen of the late 2010's. Naruto's anime had just ended, Bleach had ended and it's anime version was MIA, and One Piece was in the depths of a 100 episode long arc. Dragon Ball Super also ended around the time MHA season 3 came out. The next big series, Demon Slayer and JJK, were just getting up and running and weren't animated yet. When there are a lot of big shows out, a lot of people tend to stick with what they like. But there was a solid period, from 2017 - 2020, where the big name shonen anime was my hero academia and basically nothing else. I remember back in the day, there was this perception of MHA when season 1 came out, "it's shonen like naruto and one piece, but done right." The public perception was that MHA was this brand new shonen series which is gonna dump all the old tropes that brought the old shows down and do things right. So a loooot of fans of mainstream shonen went over to MHA, hoping to see what the hype was about. And there's a significant amount of shonen fans who are just there for the coolness. They want cool badass characters to show up and have flashy fight scenes. They want Goku to show up and be "him" and anything beyond that is extra. So when they tune in to episode 1 and see Deku, they're not impressed. And to be fair, whatever you think of Deku, you have to admit, when we first see him, he is probably the literal dictionary opposite of "cool."

We all know a Twice, someone who had a great heart, but no support in life so when they start making mistakes and fall there is no one to help them stand up , then the wrong people come to "help" so they get attached to and - that s it. You wont hear of those people ever again coz in our reality too, those people end up at best in jail, at worst like Twice - as the first one to fall if sh*t goes wrong. Sadly, Hawks came in too late, if they emt maybe a few years ago that conversation d have went differently, but sadly - Twice was not gonna abandon the only people that ever made him feel not alone.

But peak sadness too because heroes got wrecked and watching Twice go is actually pretty sad
