.My. .Hero. .Academia. 5x23-24

These episodes were EXACTLY what we wanted from My Villain Academia😈

Comments

I will note that if you think Shigaraki's backstory it isn't as tragic as maybe expected it does get worse lmao. Not in a very outright way but it does kinda punch you in the gut when all the pieces fall into place

kiria

there's such an interesting parallel between those two characters! eri's path is one where someone with actual good intentions reached out to save and help her. shigaraki's was the opposite. someone with very malicious intentions was the one to reach out to him. It's interesting to think about how things could have been very different for him if someone decent had reached out to him

Chlo

but we also have to consider that he was a young child who is not mature enough to understand his father's motivations. (His father was very wrong for what he did to shigaraki, but his motivations for banning talking about heroes is understandable.) All Shigaraki felt as a young child is that his father hated him, and he didn't know why. We also need to consider that he completely mentally broke down when he accidentally killed his entire family besides his father. By the time he got to his father, he did intend to kill him, but this was not the case with the rest of his family. Also, he was completely manipulated by afo into becoming the way he did. Let's just remember that he was a very young and impressionable child. He even stated that perhaps things never would have gone this way if anyone else had reached out to help him

Chlo

I kinda agree w you, Cannon. I thought shigaraki's childhood would've been worse too lmao. Like, sure, it wasn't 'nice', but getting an asswhooping as a kid and being put outside seems to not weigh up against just going totally insane and becoming a coldblooded killer and liking it 😂

Fatipapi (Endeavor’s Wife)

The third movie is my favorite movie, but I understand wanting to get on with the show. Well, it’s been decided anyway lol, but good reactions as always! As for Shigaraki, there are always ‘worse’ backstories. But this story explains his behavior well if you look at it deeply. A lot of his behavior was manipulated by AFO, and if he was raised by anyone else he could’ve found healthier outlets for his emotions and quirk. But AFO knowingly cultivated his hatred, trauma and destructive quirk. Murdering your whole family is pretty horrible on its own, but I get that by saying his backstory wasn’t ‘bad’ enough before that. However that part wasn’t shown to explain who he is today. Killing most of his family was an accident (everyone but his abusive dad, and he didn’t know the rest of his family loved him enough to stand up against dad because they never got a chance to say it). Shigaraki is who he is today not only because of his family, but because of everything that came after.

Aby

Would like to quickly point out, Tenko Shimura had 2 other friends. He told his mother that no one would play with those 2 kids, so he reached out to them and offered to play heroes with them, and because of that, they told him he could be the one to play All Might

Wyld89

Shiggy has one of the most depressing villain origin stories of all time bro

Tivy

I think it could be a useful quirk for saving, such as decaying debris that someone is trapped under.

Bailey Nelson

Shigaraki's backstory was sad. I could be wrong, but i was under the impression that maybe Shigaraki wasn't built for his quirk and that's why he was itchy? Or it could also be psychological because of always having his dad be mad at him. It affected his hair so I was thinking it could affect his skin. I do agree with Cannon that some quirks are definitely more villainous. It is easy to see Eri's quirk used for good when used right, but I'm not sure what good Shigaraki's quirk could do. Unless he can undecay someone. I'm ready for the binge! I did it this weekend because I knew I wouldn't have as much time during the week. I hope we don't get the movie because I wanna do the binge.

Jenny D

That's a massive reach calling his dad abusive, we saw one time (besides that end cuz he was trying to stop him) that his dad hit him cuz his sister was a little rat and said he went in his study the rest we saw like cannon says was him getting time out for breaking his "One rule" was he father of the year obviously not but was he the worst father of the year absolutely not

Nyx

Movie after the binge would be betterr

Rei

...I need that drop...I NEED IT!!!

V STAN

So we're supposed to get the movie today?

PurpleQueen💜

I NEED THE DROP 😭

Mdmarki

eri has a similar experience as shigi. except she was too little to understand when her quirk manifested and rewinded her dad

mina

They are streaming so they will drop it at some point after it ends, could be 1 hour after or even 4 hahah

Mdmarki

Pop off incoming?

Swish Mix Productions

I'm praying for it but I have a gut feeling we are losing a day to the movie.. :(

JevCor

honestly the movie can wait. we need the binge 😭

Belly

I need the BINGEEEEE

Swish Mix Productions

Kinda agree with many people here that the third movie can totally wait till post binge because its so disconnected from the main plot and feels the most random and non canon. While 5x25 and 6x1 flow right into one another.

m1gz

Then look deeper

m1gz

Im with cannon, it's not that his backstory isn't "that bad" is just that I feel like I needed more, don't know exactly what but it wasn't a satisfying backstory IMO

Earthshatter

Movie is cool but I much rather them continue series(s6) rn and do movie later if they have time

Swish Mix Productions

I’m not sure if the movie is worth slowing down for.

katsuki’s wife

It must be linked to his quirk, since they are linked to their behaviour, kid wanted to have everything so he set out to take it

Lexzc

am i the only one who thinks the next mha movie is cheeks and almost dont want them to react to it

Jeremy

I rlly dont know which drop are we getting today, just episode 25? ep 25 + season 6 ep 1, ep 25 and movie?

Mdmarki

great 2 episodes, great reactions

Markus

bro that backstory gave ME trauma, I was not looking forward to seeing that again

Markus

ur pfp prolly takes away from your credibility lmao

lololol

The issue with his life was his dad was abusive but no one stopped him. His mom and grandparents just told him to suck it up or didnt stop it from happening so he couldnt trust them to actually help. Then he had his horrible rash. Then he watched his sister lie which he just couldnt comprehend at 5 years old. All he understood was that his family did nothing to protect him. Then his mind snapped when he started killing them and it was to late to turn back.

cade-carter

since the beginning the show has shown us that usually the ugliest people turn into villains because society shuns them. Like if you go look at the freaks at the end of S1. Its very sad. Yall even said Shinso had an evil power with his brainwashing and yall werent even aware of what u were saying. Having naturally off putting or destructive powers ruins many lives. Like toga is forced to crave blood by her power, however if people hadnt shunned her they could have easily provided free blood.

cade-carter

If you guys had actually watched that OVA called All Might Rising that I told you guys to react to a while back you would know a lot more about All Might and his master who is the grandmother of shigaraki.

Sickness

it was done purposefully so its not that crazy but I do love what Horikoshi has created with their parallels

All might

I feel like this depiction makes more sense with the quirk name. Cuz it actually seems like they're decaying, vs guts

All might

Carter calling this a disturbing kid backstory, yep yep! And I’d say some episode titles coming up can kind of spoil what’s going to happen so try not to read them if possible 😅

Dub_quinn

Carter kills me lmfaoooo

IQLou

“do your best” is one of the top 2 main themes in the entire show, i love when AFO steals all mights lines. im pretty sure they say do your best like 100 times in the whole show

Ksweets

nooo there’s so many spoilers

Jyle

she definitely does have a villain quirk, difference between her and shiggy is that she was saved by heros. And overhaul was simply using her as a tool for his own benefit while afo was building shiggy up to be his predecessor. If she was in the hands of afo she easily would have been a villian.

Andrew Mohan

If you dont want JJK s3 spoilers. DO NOT watch the trailer

Conk

great point! we get various different depictions of abusers, and i feel that isn't something that's often explored well in anime

Chlo

if you're gonna call Shigaraki's quirk a "villian quirk" then you better be prepared to do the same for Eri. Her quirk also manifested by killing her family. Also Thirteen the blackhole hero. Her quirk also just disintegrates things.

Anees Navai

agreed. claiming that someone's trauma isn't that bad feels pretty insensitive :^/

Chlo

I wonder if it'd be better to do movie 3 for the next drop and then can do the last episode of this season and 6x1-2 together? kind of a good spot for it, "during" work studies, post-MVA but will come back to the s5 finale?? idk this is hard.. but s6 starts going at ep 1, I don't want a movie pause once its started😭.....but im just desperate for the 3-13 binge😭

cara

Carter's face at 5:20 I'm dying!! lolololol

Julio cruz

where are the koda shirts?

Snatchen

You guys need to react to JJK S3 trailer 🔥

Marielie🙈

Fully agree with your final statement, it's other kind of damage. "Don't just watch, come and help me", and aftewards acting like nothing happened, terrible.

JulioLG

Are you guys gonna react to the new JJK S3 TRAILER

Chosos Wife

I've forgotten about Nana's flashbacks... bro they hit hard How is the "kids show" going? 😅 Great discussion in the post as usual, the abuse, the society reaction to something different (little Tenko asking for help), the nature of quirks.. Horikoshi surely did a great job posing deep questions with his writing in MHA; and best part it's most of them are present or perfectly relate in our present society. edit: also the line "in order to save strangers they don't ever know, heroes will hurt their families" it's crazy and applies to many real world circunstances

JulioLG

I like that all for one is evil for evil sake it's refreshing, just like some people choose to be good some people like being bad. I think that movie and shows have too many gray characters these days I get tired of bad guys that are just misunderstood.

Marsuvies Black

A very wholesome episode 🥰🙏

Julio Martinez

Can't wait for you to get to 7×11 🥰

BeautyWillSaveTheWorld

5:19 lmfao carter

DC

I think some people have pointed this out already but for me it is even more tragic that Shigaraki's backstory is not "that bad". By this I refer to Shigaraki's words when he says this family 'kindly rejected' him. Hero society at the moment is such that his dad was able to make a life for himself despite Nana Shimura's abandonment in order to protect him and do her job as a hero. So on the surface everything ended up okay, heck their house is expensive and they all live together with Tenko's grandparents. But beneath the surface his dad is verbally and physically abusive and triggers Tenko's itchiness. This bodily reaction indicates a serious stress level in a 5 y.o. All this while nobody is stepping in for him no matter how much they love him and outside these instances are there for him. Only before Tenko awakens his quirk does his mother put an ultimatum to the dad. Otherwise, I bet Tenko felt almost gaslit - 'How come my mother, sister and grandparents love and care for me so much but when my father abuses me do they do nothing? It means I actually deserve it'. It's a level of mental abuse that it maybe would've been better if his circumstances were more straightforward and "harsher". That's how I see it

bondbond53

They do influence personalities. They are present in nearly every character we see in the story. Bakugo-explosive, Endeavor-Fiery, Ochaco-lighthearted, Jiro-loves music, Toga-bloodthirsty and identity problems since she can turn into other people, Stain-also bloodthirsty, Shigaraki-destructive etc. Nearly every character's personality is based around their quirk.

Albin Limani

I absolutely love the music when Tenko starts falling apart. Tragic and captures the feeling of disassociation so perfectly. Top 3 OST of MHA for me and I could leave it on repeat for hours.

Vextipher

Shigaraki's backstory is peak, for the wrong reasons yes but it's really good

T.Yaseen

ya know the way cannon feels about koda? that’s how i feel about toga so i feel you jack! more than you know 🫩

baisenri

fully agree with Cannon on the question of Shigaraki's motives

Marlon

I'm so excited for S6!!! There's no more filler by the way, so don't skip S6 ep 1 or S7 ep 1! They're all Canon

V STAN

Can’t wait for next upload 🔥

Caraxes🐐DT

Remember that quirks are tied with the personality For example: Bokugo's quirk is Explosion and his personality is explosive Endeavor's quirk is Hell fire and his personality is fiery Uraraka's quirk is Zero Gravity and her personality is Light-hearted, uplifting Toga's quirk is Transform and her personality is Unstable, identity hungry Shigaraki's quirk is Decay and his personality is Hateful, Corrosive, Destructive Thats how it works on the MHA world, the quirk have something to do with your personality Also, please next batch 5x25/6x1-3 so we could get the binge faster TuT

Yam

I hope so

Swish Mix Productions

this show is so f good

TED103

After credit scene on episode 25

FrostyMiniYeets

One of my fav eps😭 I wish they watched the ending songs for S6🥲the way they changed the visuals to match certain episodes was one of my favourite things 🥹

bfc2307

I’ve always viewed quirks as neither good nor evil cause its always how you use it that makes it “good” or “evil” kinda like a gun for example

Night Sterling

I don't know if people already said it below, but plz don't skip 1st ep of season 6

ge_minight

The countdown to season 6 ep 11 begins 😣😣😣

Ali

Little Tenko was so cute 😭 & The scene with Shigaraki with white hair laughing towards the sky is one of the manga covers!!

wattie

It’s not the saddest back story, but I like it because it gives Tomura somehow both responsibility (for wanting to kill) and the exemption of accountability (because he’s a kid given power no kid is emotionally ready for). He’s not a kid now, but he’s had influence from AFO, so it’s still a tug-of-war between what he’s responsible for and what he’s exempt from being responsible for. I really like hearing the geks sort through this all!

Dub_quinn

And also remember, he WANTED to be saved afterward. He felt guilty and waited for someone to reach out to him. (Again, he was 5. Kids that age don’t necessarily know how to seek help.) If someone ANYONE other than All For One had shown him kindness and gotten him the help he needed, he would have had a vastly different life.

Lori

You gotta remember that Tomura was 5 years old. At that age, your parents are your entire world.

Lori

SEASON 6 SEASON 6 SEASON 6

Swish Mix Productions

Yes it's really interesting to see throughout the seasons, we see the flaws of the hero society and how they've given birth to the villains and you can understand and see how they ended up that way.

PurpleQueen💜

It’s all for one!! He manipulated shiggy to be a villain he is now. If only he was properly saved back then, i doubt he would be one:(

Farfaraway

Both Tenko and Deku wanted to hear the same thing as a kid "You can become a hero"

Yabadabadoo

Eri is another example of horrific quirk manifestation, if you remember - she literally rewinded her dad back to before he existed, which is why her mother gave her up to the Shie Hassaikai. Shigaraki’s backstory, and the backstories of the rest of the League, are so important to the narrative, because their character’s origins and motivations directly challenge those of the main cast. A hero’s job is to make lip service into reality, but what happens when they don’t? Being born with a quirk easily applicable to hero work or other good things is praised even though it’s not a controllable trait - doesn’t that mean the opposite is also true? How much trauma is considered acceptable for a character to be the way they are? Horikoshi definitely cooked with the way he’s written these characters. I also find it interesting that ReDestro said that quirks influence people’s personality, because while I can kind of see that, the lack of overall knowledge about quirks makes me question how valid that statement is.

humbleandkindness

Bro Shiggy’s backstory is so painful…sad peak. His mom running to him 🥲🥲🥲

Neemz

I’m a vet with PTSD and my dog saved my life. I feel like if something horrible like this happened to him, I’d want to destroy everything too. Shigaraki is a great but tragic villain

Tyler Owens

Is it a hot take that i think it sounds cool in english too lol

Noelle

they did it on purpose I'm almost certain XD they could have quite easily replaced "load" with "burden" but they knew what they were doing hahaha

Alex

Fr. Like Deku literally said this to Eri . And she also accidentally killed her dad when her quirk manifested but we don't go around calling her quirk villainous. This whole labeling of quirks as villainous is part of the reason they have so much undue discrimination and other problems in this society.

Noelle

Didn’t he when he said “I hate you all”? Maybe I remember that scene wrong

McKay Carter

I like how Shigaraki's backstory gives a good look at some of the ways this current quirk-based hero society can actually be damaging and create villains. Yes, comparatively, Shigaraki's family situation wasn't that bad. It wasn't great by any means and it's a good example of how generational trauma can negatively impact a family, but compared to some anime back stories, his situation does seem less terrible. I think that's kinda the point actually. In this quirk society, people aren't born villains - they're created. Even people whose trauma might be considered "less" than others, because the family situation isn't the only reason he ended up like that. Shigaraki became a villain because of the mix of several unfortunate factors coming together at once: the tension in his household because of his father's hatred for heroes, Shigaraki's destructive (not inherently villainous) quirk manifesting at a bad time, and the fact that hero society has made people complacent and too trusting in heroes to the point where bystander effect hits harder. Destructive quirk aside, the factors that were caused because of the hero based society they live in (father's feelings of abandonment & complacent people) were the things that drove Shigaraki to a place where All for One was able to use his trauma to manipulate him into becoming a villain. I think pointing out these unsavory parts of hero society gives grounds to why Shigaraki wants to get rid of it. Other villains in the show, such as Stain, have also given reason for their villainy that point to a fault in the society they live in rather than just a problem with the villain. Obviously they take it too far and that's what makes them villains, but the world-building in this show is immaculate on how so many things come full circle like this.

Noelle

Mon-chan 😭😭😭

Alex

“I feel like he’s way more powerful than Deku!” I find your lack of faith disturbing, Cannon

Seth Aasland

He didn’t kill his family on purpose, just his dad.

Nomar Calzada

I can also agree on how shigaraki's situation wasn't "that bad", but here's how I think it led to him "wanting to kill his dad" - I think that the chain of events was that his destructive quirk suddenly manifested at a bad time killing his dog, because he was shocked and likely scarred by this he thought it was a villain and thats how he ended up killing his sister, and then he was in emotional anguish about this and because HE WAS 5!! he sought comfort from his mother resulting in her death. At this point, having already killed almost half of his family AND BEING 5 YEARS OLD and traumatized and resentful of his family because of how they stand by while he's being punished for something unreasonable, he kills the remaining members out of a childish hatred that comes from not being old enough to understand what's happening. I don't think he was deranged at all. I think it's kind of natural to think you "hate" your family for something small when you're a kid. I've working in childcare and "I hate you" is not an uncommon think to hear from an upset child. Especially from shigaraki where he kinda has a good reason to be mad. The only reason that this situation ended in tragedy rather than a family fight that they could have eventually gotten over was because of shigaraki's destructive quirk which he didn't know how to control, and therefore he had the power to enact his childish feelings

Noelle

100% agree and I feel like it’s told to us pretty early on through the likes of Shinso and Bakugo (and now Toga’s backstory as well) that the way society labels ppl based on their quirks is a flaw that we should be trying to move away from

Nami Swannn

McKay Carter

yup 😂

Swish Mix Productions

Make me want Shigaraki to get a good ending now

McKay Carter

I clowned him a little at first but he was sick

McKay Carter

Ye

McKay Carter

shigaraki saying he was “kindly” rejected mirrors deku’s experience when his mom gave up on his dream bc he was quirkless (something she admitted feeling guilty about years later) which ties into one of the story’s core themes of how parents can damage their kids even unintentionally

rue

Shigaraki's origin is never an easy watch. Accidentally killing 85% of your family in such a gruesome way is just sickening and depressing. It's like his life was destined to be nothing but tragedy.

Animeke

What’s it called

McKay Carter

Guys the league of villains is named that bc shigaraki loves league of legends

Pavlo

Since we have 3 episodes left before the binge, are you doing a single drop weds?

Jyle

I think it's easy to see villain characters and associate their quirks as evil or "villainous" too. But quirks aren't evil. They are tools. And tools in evil hands are dangerous. But quirks have many applications. Shigaraki's could be used to decay obstructions, debris etc. It would be very helpful in rescue missions as a hero. A quirk is not inherently villainous. You just got to get creative

Cat

Re Destro surround himself with stressful environments to increase his quirk power. He’s the CEO of the company he’s doing a bunch of shady things in the shadows trying to keep away from the heroes, while also recruiting for his organization. There is no peace in his life because peace leads to reduction of his power

Vernus

Finally the backstory we needed

Vernus

In this season and in season seven you have to be prepared to know the origins of several characters. ☠️

THE GOAT'S AWAKENING

Swish Mix Productions

idk but Cannon's Spidey symbiote shirt is 🔥🔥

idcjayyy

MHA always comes back and answers everything, LITERALLY EVERYTHING. If you had doubts, its coming 99% of the time.

Swish Mix Productions

y’all always ask/complain about something the episode you’re about to get it , the irony always makes me laugh lol i love it.

Jyle

Shigaraki or Tenko was an innocent child that just happened to get a quirk too powerful for him to handle at his age. Similar to Eri. Mix in with the fact his father was constantly punishing him for the smallest of things, which he did not deserve at all. You end up with a traumatised kid who’s mentally unstable. Sometimes we forget just how fragile a child’s mind is. Yes the other family members were nice and all, especially his mother BUT they still did not step in to stop the father whenever he went after Tenko. So the resentment he has towards them isn’t that surprising. That household was a toxic family environment not just because of the fathers controlling methods but because the other adults let the abuse continue until it was too late

~Mercedeez Lee~

Childrens reception and reaction to abuse varies significantly and experiences that are debilitating to some might be completely fine for others. The mindset of comparing it to your own experiences and being like "well I've had it bad but I never would have reacted that way" is kinda lacking understanding of other people experiences. (It comes across that way at least). What decides how bad someone's trauma is, is not a set scale of some things being worse than others. It's a combination of many factors but maybe most important is someone's personality and emotional stability and durability. Shigaraki was a fragile kid and to him his situation became unbearable. Basically my point is that cannons take at the end felt unnecessary and kinda insensitive especially because it's such a real subject🤷‍♀️

Mia Malvik

woah woah woah, where the pink and black (hated animal control guy} forgot name, shirts at

Silentwtf

This is all pretty censored compared to what we got in the manga lol, thats why there is some discrepancy with how they depict shigarakis quirk, they are censoring what it actually does by just turning them to grayscale dust

Vincent S Deluca

If I'm not wrong in the manga Shigaraki's decay is way more visceral, people just end up like his dog. In tha anime they censored it a little

Alex Mehmeti

I'm assuming that "Paranormal Liberation Front" sounds way cooler in Japanese.

LookingForOwls

It is incredible how Shigaraki and Deku despite traveling different paths, the turning point in their lives was because the two of them wanted to hear someone tell them you can be a hero. Their dreams were rejected and then were eventually "saved" by their own masters. It's kinda crazy how much Shigaraki and Deku's stories mirror each other

Nanami's Wife

Syndrome was messing up a operation & almost got himself killed then got mad about it cause he was saved then told to go home

Sam Davis

This was when I grew a heart for shigaraki. Yes he’s BAD… but dang dude… I feel for him.

Abigail Jerry

No he isn’t 😑

Aisha

6x1 and 7x1 ARE NOT FILLER BTW GEKS, THERE ARE NO MORE FILLERS IN MHA

Swish Mix Productions

cannon kinda spitting

zak

The fact that Shimura left Kotaro to protect him from All For One which ended up causing him to punish his kids and lead his own son to all for one anyway is so crazy and sad. And although, yes Shigaraki was loved and cared for by his family feeling suffocation in your own home and like no-one is on your side is just as traumatising as physical abuse imo. It was the little things of his family ignoring his feelings and simply obeying trash rules that caused everything to pile up and cause the tragedy. So yes on the surface it's not a terrible home life, but had they opposed his father's rule from the beginning and actually helped Shigaraki rather than a false comfort, he could have been a great hero. Edited just to add: if your child feels like they can’t express themselves out of fear of being screamed at then you’re a bad parent simple as.

Daniella

Wait does the geks know 6x1 is canon? They’ve skipped all ep 1s so not far fetched to assume they would skip this one

Robert

I have finally seen all of "My Villain Academia" after avoiding it for a few years. And knowing what I know from everything after? 🤯 I definitely did read the manga chapter "Shimura Tenko: Origin" and "Shigaraki Tomura: Origin" at initial publication though, couldn't miss that.

botanbutton

Also Shigaraki's backstory might be one of my favorites in all anime. It is a bit simple, but the way it is built up and then culminating with one of the darkest things I have ever seen. Just perfection.

Albin Limani

Ep 23 actually so good man what a story

bigdog

Fun fact: The OST that plays when Shigaraki kills his family is called: "I don't kill my friends". It was an OST made for Twice, since that is literally the line Twice says before unleashing the Sad Man's Parade, but it just fits so well in that Shigaraki scene that they changed who they used it for.

Albin Limani

Deku and shigaraki both growing up wanting to be heroes. While deku got lucky and met all might, shigaraki met AFO. And the fact nobody stopped to help him when he was a child is crazy, which is to highlight the flaws of the hero society.

PurpleQueen💜

I think basically all of the league of villain powers can be used for good; Shigaraki can get rid of collapsed rubble, Twice can create a massive work force very quickly. Spinner's the only one without an outright useful quirk, but he basically doesn't have one outside of being able to stick to walls (and that's still pretty good). Dabi is the only one whose is entirely destructive, but that applies to a lot of heroes, too. Shame about the whole "literally burning himself to use his quirk" thing, thought

Hegataro

Did you finish the video

Cannon Andrus

Did you finish the video

Cannon Andrus

Literally

Cannon Andrus

Cannon’s points are crazy 💀

KatyRose

I get Cannons point but I think if anything his mom and family being generally good people just makes it so much sadder. His dad was definitely a trash dad, abusing him and everything, and granted the grandparents didn't do anything to stop it so I feel like from a kids point of view you can definitely grow some hatred from that. He was also unaware they were protesting the dads rules at the same time he's melting the house puppy 💀 💀 😭 I think every little thing that could have went wrong did, and paired with the fact that your personality sort of mirrors your quirk in a way just resulted in the worst possible outcome. Shigaraki is 🐐 but yeah I think his family situation being not really "that" crazy bad just makes it so much sadder

Ryan D

Cannon spoke a whole backstory into existance

TheBookerDeWitt

The reason why Shigaraki also resents his mom and other family members is because even though they were nice to him, they never went against his dad. He lived in a controlling household for his entire life, and never truly felt understood because everyone just went along with the rules of his dad. The only time his mom was willing to draw the line is when it turned physical, but by that point it was too late.

Kaito Kuroba

The discrepancies of how decay is portrayed is due to censorship,if you remember back in season one duringthe USJ attack when Shigaraki goes for Aizawa his elbow crumbles and exposes his muscle too before hes able to erase his quirk again, after that one time every instance of Shigaraki's quirk being shown was in the more familiar way where things turn gray and disintegrate like rocks, but the way it is portrayed on his origin episode, where the dog gets torn apart and left in a puddle of blood and pieces of its body its how its meant to be when used on living things, including people,at least thats how it is in the manga. In short, its a gory quirk As for feeling hes much more stronger than Deku after his awakening, thats debatable,i still think that Deku with black whip could restrain him entirely in the air to prevent him from touching the ground or anyone and be able to land a well placed 100% smash on his face and beat him, since shigarakis quirk dosnt grant him any kind of physical resistance, the only villains able to endure 100% smashes so far have been the USJ nomu with shock absorption, muscular and AFO,Shisaki dosnt count,he got rekt.

Lexzc

he itches when he wants to kill people. the itching at home was because he was stressed. he said he only itched at home.

Belly

It would be interesting if the itching was directly related to his quirk. or was that just an obvious connection I failed to make the first time around

All might

These episodes were really good. At the time people complained about the censoring of Shigaraki’s backstory

The aspect of a "villain" quirk just should not exist. The story of MHA constantly reminds us that labeling things as "villainous" or "heroic" is wrong. Shigaraki's quirk could be one of the best quirks for saving people. Imagine people stuck under buildings or rubble after disasters and he just decays all of that. Quirk's are just what people make them, there are no hero or villain quirks.

Gonna watch the reaction later just wanna say F shigaraki idc about his boohoo backstory

Yah Cannon is wrong imo at the begging how can you claim he's evil for no sake when you haven't seen his backstory yet?? Especially in an arc that's specifically showing us all the leagues trauma. I'm with Carter we don't even know his backstory so how can you claim that lol. LAST episode AFO stated he murdered his entire family and his trauma just "made him evil" is a huge oversimplification, you can literally say that about any Villain really. I understand what kind of villain Canon is talking about but its very clear from all the crumbs we've gotten so far there's clearly a lot more there we just haven't been shown. Glad he enjoyed the backstory though very unlucky timing lol.

m1gz

That backstory hit me like 4 trucks holy hell

Kayanolive

I like how MHA has a relatively complex narrative on abusers. There's Overhaul who's unrepentant about it, Endeavor and his attempts to atone and now Shiggy's dad who had a small implication that he was going to attempt to change but didn't get the chance because of Shiggy snapping and his own fear.

bondbond53

The discussion about how some quirks are inherently villainous is very intersting. It really is the luck of the draw cuz it’s true, some are more dangerous, but what can you do about it? You can’t ostracize and punish ppl for the way that they’re born, but they also do posses a very real threat. It’s a flaw in the current hero society which is only causing more unfortunate cases of ppl who needed help becoming villains instead. And with quirk singularity theory, this issues is only gonna get worse

I would like to point out how similar Shigaraki and Eri are set up (both kids with uncontrollable destruction like quirks that accidentally killed loved ones, and even their design is similar), but in their time of need, where Shigaraki had AFO reach out a hand to him, Eri had Deku 🥺

Nami Swannn

8:12 HAHA those looks were glorious. Glad to know we were all thinking the same thing

LOLS CANNON 😭 well his situation isn’t that bad if you compare it to others, but it was still bad. His dad was abusing him, his mom and grandparents loved him but they didn’t stick up for him. As a child with no power in that situation, you grow resentful of the adults who can put a stop to it but won’t. After the incident with his family (where he only intentionally killed his Dad, the others were an accident), he went out looking for help but nobody reached out a hand, which says a lot about hero society and how reliant the citizens are on them. Had that old lady called for help, I think he’d be on a very different path. But because nobody helped, he internalized a lot of it and felt like this was what he deserved as punishment. Then you have AFO, the ONLY person to help him, whispering in her ears and encouraging him to do bad. And initially he was able refuse to kill, but there’s only so much a broken child can do against the manipulation of an evil mastermind.
