2025-08-27 09:04:06 +0000 UTCalso ngl normally some mispronunciations can bug me a lil (not a v big deal tho ofc), but personally idrc whether yall go with the og 'sha-bon-dee' pronunciation or translated 'sah-bah-oh-dee' considering that's how its anglicized...the name does have a pun of sorts in japanese but it doesn't translate to english, since it was anglicized more so with its original portuguese loan word in mind (which to my understanding would actually make the pronunciation somewhere between the two, and closer to 'sa-bon-dee' to english ears, if the original portuguese pronunciation were kept in mind also) japanese: シャボン (shabon) ---> シャボンディ (shabondi) portuguese/english: sabão ---> saboady assuming you know what neither word means i'll just leave it untranslated for now though, because its a very milddd spoiler

2025-08-27 00:19:56 +0000 UTCso you’re saying the dub is the original and the language the creator created these places and named them with certain pronunciations is wrong?? woah…also shabondy is a play on the word sabao which means soap in portuguese where it replaces sabao with shabon which also means soap in japanese. oda is just quirky like that so the correct pronunciations is the one the characters and the author deems is correct. if the characters are saying shabondy why are we forcing people to pronounce it the other way just because the dub does?

The way he treats Papaggu, his sole motivation for helping being takayoki and the way he struggled once he realized who Hachi was 😂 . Not to mention the face Zoro made when he told Caimie they went his friends 😭 . I also really love the way McKay finds so many of the random scenes funny. It always takes me by surprise, then draws a smile on my face haha
