Honestly, even after this episode I was still kinda ok with forgiving Endeavour. But once I got to future episodes and saw the extended version of Endeavours marriage and their kids and their history I immediately swung towards hating him. I can admire him as Endeavour the hero, but as Enji Todoroki, that man does not deserve to be forgiven by anyone in his family, especially his wife

I'm so late to this reaction so I'll spare you guys the long-winded essay gushing about how good Endeavour's analogy for his explanation of parallel processing is and how useful his advice is compared to All Might's (mostly because he REALLY gets what his three work study students need due to his similar experiences struggling to become the best, unlike All Might who was able to overcome those limits because of his innate talent supposedly easier than other normal heroes). Anyways. I think the word Carter was looking for towards the end of the discussion was "relatable". Because it's true that while we see a lot of different family dynamics in anime, a lot of them are also so far out of the realm of possibility in our minds due to the extreme circumstances or settings the stories are in. With the Todoroki family, it's plain and simple abuse and neglect, which is frighteningly common in our reality. But that's what makes their family dynamic so relatable, because it's the most often seen in modern society. Horikoshi's very realistic portrayal of the different coping mechanisms and reactions of each child in the family are just the bonus on top of what is an already easily relatable situation for many.

Yes! You guys get it. Endeavors character is about atonement! It was never about redemption like how other people said or misunderstood. You dont need to forgive him, and no one will justify what he did. Its such a narrow way of thinking in animanga fandoms that it can only be black or white, if you like a bad guy doing bad things = you support their actions and you are also a horrible person, instead of actually looking into the character and their development throughout the whole story.

If there is one storyline that Horikoshi is incapable of missing while writting, it is the Todoroki styoryline. His writing easily is at the peak during this. Also, Endeavor is easily my favorite character. Such a multilayered character. So flawed, so many mistakes, but still doing his best to change and do right by his family however he can. The duality of him being the pinnacle of hard work as a Endeavor, while being so flawed and horrible as Enji, to then starting the bring his awesomeness as Endeavor into his private life as well, it is just so well written.

It’s refreshing since a lot of anime’s don’t take the time to flesh out emotions or they spoon feed you every emotion. This is more realistic since we get to know a little more each season we’re with the Todoroki’s

I think it’s important to remember that nobody is owed forgiveness. If you’ve seriously wronged someone and it’s caused them harm, then yeah, they don’t owe you anything, no matter how guilty you feel or how you try to make up for it. It is important to recognise and own up to mistakes and do better, but yeah.I think it’s interesting how this is playing out in the Todoroki family too, and how each of them are processing the past and trying to reconcile it with the present, especially as most of Endeavour’s current change process seems to have only recently begun to occur in the last 6ish months, as opposed to a decade or more of shitty behaviour. It’s this change though and how it’s playing out that makes for a compelling story. I still don’t like Endeavour, but there’s nuance to what’s happening here.

The way MHA handles Endeavor and the Todoroki family is so unique for shonen anime. The story never makes any excuses for Endeavor's past behavior, never lets him off the hook, and doesn't let us move past his actions to give him an easy redemption arc. There is also something Shakespearean in how Endeavor simply cannot enjoy a moment of being Number 1, something he wanted all his life. The moment he got the top spot his eyes were opened to the things he had done to get there, and the burden of the top spot.

One thing I really love about how the Todoroki family plot is developed is that Endeavors past actions haunt the rest of his entire story and often times his family's. Even when we start to see Endeavor in a more positive light- we root for him against the nomu, we see him offering great hero advice to Deku Bakugo and Shoto etc. Intermixed between these moments are flashbacks over n over to what Shoto endured in childhood. Even when we see progress a new wrench is thrown in- Lost brother Toya. It's very back and forth the way grieving and overcoming past trauma would be. I feel like it takes the audience along that ride as one can choose to support Endeavors growth and atonement but will never be able to ignore what he did and its lasting effect.

Sorry for the long comment, but I thought this would be a great place to bring this up... Also, another comment I want to leave regarding both this episode and season 5 as a whole is that as I rewatch the show through your guys' first viewing, it kind of shows me how under-appreciated this season was. While I still think this season is the weakest of the 7, it really isn't a "bad" season. While it does not have any episodes that reach the highs of All Might v. All for One, or Endeavor v. High End (Nomu), it still has its moments that make it enjoyable. If anything, after going through the full watch of the show, you realize this season still has its importance, and sets up some important story beats for future seasons. So I have to say, that I'm happy that you guys seem to be enjoying the small moments, such as the Todoroki family dinner (which I know at the time of its release, was not looked upon fondly). The other part, which I am honestly happy with, is your viewing of Endeavor's character arc. From what I see from both fans of the show and those on the internet, there are two extreme sides for Endeavor. Those who love and forgive him for his actions, and those who hate him and wish for his death. I more so fall in the middle, as while Endeavor is my favorite character of the series, unlike most of the cast, he's the least black and white character. When you look at both sides of the extremes, characters such as All Might and Deku stand out as they are the best parts of superhuman society, whereas All for One and Shigaraki represent the worst of what superhuman society can do. When you put Endeavor into this mix, he doesn't really fit either side, as he isn't as pure as the former (as he was abusive to his family), and you can't fit him into latter (as he still one of Japan's greatest heroes, which it was confirmed that he has the most cases solved, including All Might). The other point that you guys hit the nail on the head with his character arc is how Endeavor does not seek forgiveness, which is one thing I would like to point out about his arc. Though many label his arc as a "redemption" arc, since that type of arc for a character is common in many pieces of storytelling and media, it is more of an "atonement" arc. What I mean by this is that with Endeavor, he can't exactly "redeem" himself, as the damage that he dealt to his family has already passed, and at this point, he is very much aware of this (as we see with his dream about the "ideal" family dinner without him). This is why I think his character sticks out from other characters that follow the lines of redemption, as his awareness knows that he can't makeup for past sins, so instead, he seeks to atone, or make amends with his acts, and make way for a better future for his family, because he knows that's all he can do. While I love so many of the characters of MHA, Endeavor is the one that I believe receives the most character development out of the rest, aside from two others (that I won't mention, as it contains spoilers).

The first HALF of season 6 would be the best set of episodes for a binge if you guys still wanna catch up for s8. It’s an arc that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time Adding on more after thinking about it. I’d say do s6 ep 1-2 like normal, these two must be together since they start off the arc/season but for the binge, if you can do 3-13 would be the best. The arc is a big one but you won’t really notice it since every single episode is hype worthy. Once it’s starts, it doesn’t slow down

It's so crazy too think that rei has been in that hospital for roughly a decade. The family endured endeavors ways for over a decade almost two and suddenly in less than a year he's been trying to change which was almost nothing. He himself hasnt put much effort into puttin the family together yet. Fuyumi is really carrying his redemption attempts. He has a lot of internal conflict but from the outside nothing much has changed. He still prioritizes hero work above anything else and shoto is still his favorite child whom he mostly interacts with through wanting to train him. When endeavor texted shoto and got ghosted, the show played it as a show but i couldnt help but think that it was still all about endeavor for him. Endeavor couldnt try to understand shoto for a second and conclude that he might not be answering cause he is at school instead the only thing thar mattered were his texts and his will and how dare shoto not answer immeadiatly. He really is a great hero with the coolest fights but as a father he truly hasnt done much. even kyushu where he got his scar was not for his family but hero work.

Season 6 and 7 flow a lot so it’s difficult to break up. If I had to pick, I’d say you could do 10 episodes in S6 E5-14 or S6 E16-25. If wanting 8 episodes then I’d think S7 E6-13. I don’t feel like any binge would be “wrong” in season 6 or 7 tho, it’s all interesting and a lot of things connect. Good luck on picking a set, but y’all don’t have to watch the recap episodes (the 4 “memories” episodes that are between S7 and S6, those are just recap so I don’t really think of them as real S7 episodes)

If you can do around 8-10 episodes then I strongly suggest doing a binge from 6x6 to 6x14 to experience the best parts of the arc in one sitting. I think 6x5 is the perfect episode to end on right before a massive binge :) Luckily season 6 and 7 are very easy to binge, so at least it won’t be too draining for you guys I hope!

Second, if I had to suggest a binge-watchable set of episodes, I would suggest either the first 8 episodes of season 6 (episodes 1-8) or the last 8 episodes of season 7 (episodes 13-21). For me I believe these sets of episodes are the most exciting and thrilling set of episodes of the series, as they honestly have the perfect mix of everything that makes MHA great, imo.

Yeah, the Todoroki family’s dynamic is my favorite storyline in the anime. And like Cannon, I shake my head at Endeavor when we see flashback scenes, yet he’s still one of my favorite characters in this. Very well written indeed. And Bakugou remains my favorite character. Carter saying he’s just himself 110% of the time was very accurate 😅

I'm getting so like antsy just waiting for you's to learn everything cause we're starting to get into the real juicy stuff and the moments when the characters' stories start to unfold and piece together finally making sense is just so peak. I really love the writing of the Todoroki family like all 3 of the kids are going through the same phase they're just at different parts of it, Fuyumi is ready to forgive, Shoto is getting ready to forgive and Natsuo just isn't ready nor does he want to be, and then you have Endeavour, the reason for their hate and grief who would give anything just to be the father he should've been but as someone who has always been distant he simply doesn't know how so he's like stuck in limbo just hoping for a change. The Todoroki family might just be the best written part of the whole show tbh.

It really is great, it's like a 1A and 1B type of situation with the plot, to have an overarching super hero story include an incredible family drama is just so good, it definitely feels closer to what you'd see in western comics than manga.

If I had to recommend I’d say yall should binge some part of the first half of season 6. Anywhere from ep 2-15. Every ep of season 7 is so good that I think it’s actually better off to have normal drops for those so yall can go more in depth to discuss each ep.
