There's also a serious obsession with the next arc (after the work study arc we just started here) in western manga audiences, which isn't really shared in Japan. So there was a combination of Japanese audiences not really caring as much about it (likely also influences the studio production quality), and then western audiences being hyper obsessive about every tiny detail. I've never seen a more nit picky pessimistic pedantic fandom than MHA during that upcoming arc I swear... Plus the manga purists freaking out over the arc order being adjusted (makes very little difference at all for the story). And then top it off with the training arc to start the season, and it definitely was rough. Especially watching it as it released. There are a ton of flashbacks/repeated "footage" in the training arc episodes, and waiting a week for what amounted to like 15 minutes of actual new content was painful. Like, imagine you wait a week for the next episode and it's 15 freaking minutes of Koda/Sugarman fighting some randos from class B you don't care about...

48:56 i actually love when there isnt a lot of action repeatedly and i enjoy when there are slice of life scenes or backstories which ground the story a bit more (obviously in a kind of story like this, action is super important and in MHA there are scenes i genuinely love) but when i started s5 and i had to watch class a vs class b continuously it was kinda difficult for me to keep going (especially watching alone, it was just me pushing myself through those episodes) i didnt drop it but it affected the rhythm i was watching it lowkey maybe it was just a personal thing, however, im happy i kept watching !!

To answer what Jack said about the student's families not being there for Christmas... it's Japan. Christmas isn't celebrated the same way it is in the west there and it isn't really a big traditional family holiday. In fact, Christmas Eve is used more as a romantic holiday for couples. Gift giving still happens but it says a lot that a lot of people order their Christmas dinner from KFC in Japan XD. New years is far more important in Japanese culture and is usually spent with family. Hence Deku being with his mother on New Year's Eve instead.

It's very rare that I drop a show in a later season. Sometimes I'll still watch and hope it gets better. But, so far, I have no complaints about this season. I've been enjoying my first watch of MHA and excited that I won't have to wait long for the new season. I love how Ashido kept trying to put the santa coat in Bakugo. It's pretty cool the three of them will get to work with Endeavor. I hope he doesn't get too obsessed over Todoroki and forgets about Deku and Bakugo. I'm excited for the next drop!

Aw yes,enjoy the slice of life while it lasts. Also as stated by others episode 16 is filler,however it literally leads in to the third movie and its villain and it takes place during the Endeavor agency arc,so keep that in mind.

It may seem like a lot of time has passed because it's been 5 seasons but Deku hasn't even finished his first year. So yes for us it may be a long time but for the characters barely any time has passed. You say that Deku's incredibly weak or that his progression is bad but in my opinion he's growing at an insane speed. All might literally put it best when he told Bakugou that Deku was starting from zero. He wasn't even at the start line while they were already in their race and yet he's keeping up with the likes of Bakugou and Todoroki who've had years to get used to and train their quirks. We're talking about the top students at one of the most prestigious hero schools in Japan and Deku a kid who was quirkless less than a year ago and didn't have the same amount of time to train as them is at the very least relative to their level. Also All Might had no issue using One For All at full power right away but he cultivated the quirk so much that it made it stronger but also harder to master. Also, feeling like the show is treating you like a kid is completely normal. MHA is the epitome of what a shonen is which is aimed towards a young male audience. Of course a lot of us here are adults and can easily read between the lines but that doesn't mean it'll be the same for younger watchers that these type of anime are aimed towards.

Izuku wearing an All Might coloured scarf to his work study with Endeavour (who's known to obsess over his inferiority in comparison to All Might and used to be so hostile towards him when he was still the Number 1 hero) will always crack me up. His fanboying is so ingrained in him that he doesn't even care if it might upset someone (not to say they have any right to be upset, but Izuku's lack of care for Endeavour's supposed mental and emotional stability in particular is so funny). On a more serious note, I am so not ready for the end of S5. We're moving on to crazy stuff from now on, what with a war brewing on the horizon. 100000 enemies still gives me the chills because how tf do you hide that many sympathisers to your cause?? Hero society is about to be uprooted from its core if they don't confront this crisis well enough. The fact that things all rest on Hawks' shoulders made me so nervous the first watch, and even now on my nth rewatch.

Great reaction guys! Remember 'Deika City.' As you guys know, the anime changed the order of events here compared to the original story. What you're watching right now (post Christmas episode) actually takes place AFTER the Deika City incident in the manga's timeline. You're seeing the heroes' experiences, before the anime shows you what happens during the actual incident (not sure why), that's why there's a sudden large threat. The anime will show you the full, detailed Deika City/Shiggy/Liberation storyline later in this current season, that happens BEFORE this current Enji hero agency part in the manga. I hope this makes sense

It has some of the best lore drop in the series and leads up to the greatness that is season 6 ( season 7 is really good as well ). I’m telling you, all the hate MHA seasons get after season 3 is just all based on the differences in the week to week anime experience relative to the week by manga experience . The chapters during season 4 and 5 WERE SO PEAK and the anime adaptation doesn’t quite hit as hard as it could… but it’s still good! It wasn’t adapted the way a bunch of people expected, which was a new experience for fans of the series. A lot of people can’t communicate or understand nuance though and just express that as, “season 4 and 5 are bad” when that’s just not true. In fact, 5x15 is one of my favorite in the whole series and I actually regularly think about it and something Endeavor says whenever I’m struggling with learning something new and complex. People also tend to recall things they dislike easier than things they like and so a lot of those critics tend to be blind to a lot of things done really well in this seasons, specifically in season 5.

honestly now that I think about it I think my hero partially got a bad rep because it has probably the most questionable fan service I have ever seen. I don't think it ruins the story for me but it is kinda susy how normal the author makes some of the pervy stuff seem. I feel like dandadan has some susy scenes in it too but its with the intent of making you uncomfortable, almost like a horror. that being said I still very much love my hero, I think its some just cultural differences more than anything

People who genuinely hate this season don’t realize how much it sets up for the rest of the show. It’s definitely slower and less action packed, but it makes up for it with its slice of life moments and lore drops/plot advancements.

Kirishima's "no blood flows behind me" meant that anyone he's protecting won't be hurt, I feel like "No blood will be spilled behind me" would've made more sense despite being a less direct translation. Every time you's talk about the hate S5 gets it genuinely baffles me cause I didn't even know the season was hated, I personally love it for how lore rich it is and I'd group it in with seasons 6 and 7 as my favourite stretch of the show.

Honestly, people who dropped the show dropped it before we reached this point. It really was during the first half of the previous arc, when we had class A vs class B. It was the worst decision in my opinion. Just seeing Shigaraki in the beginning of episode 13 had me so intrigued lol. Then the idea of our main trio just working under Endeavor hooked me right in.

And it's usually just Christmas Eve. People usually only do small gifts too like secret Santa stuff bc new year is a more important holiday. Gifts for new years are a huge deal. It's a national holiday where you get time off work and visit temples, spend time with family and exchange more important gifts. Bc Christmas is so close to new years, Christmas presents tend to be only between lovers and something small like something to eat.

Christmas in Japan is more like a day for lovers rather than family. Like valentines day. There are not many Christians in Japan so it's mostly a commercial holiday rather than a religious one. So people go to work like normal, etc. The standard is going to see the lights with your lover and exchanging presents, if you spend the day with family its usually eating KFC as well as cake.
