Just finished the movie. I agree, they didn't have to make this villain so ridiculous that Deku had to give up his quirk temporarily. I felt like it left a weird plot-convenient taste to what was already a really great movie. The animation was worth it though lol! Bakugo's explosions with the OFA buff was unreal. I was in awe consistently but kept thinking how do they explain this and bring it back to the main storyline. Now I know why a certain detail happens later on in the show that confirms this event as canon. Either way, I'm glad I finally decided to watch this. It was really fun. Enji is visibly really proud that his son finished off that super tough villain at the end there of course 😂. That scene was great too, the way Shoto can just finish people off like that at their peaks with his ice is scary. I'm glad everyone for the most part got to show out, even Koda 🤣

Normally, the spotlight tends to stay on the strongest characters, but this time I loved seeing everyone step up and going Plus Ultra. The ideas, characters, and events of the movies are reflected in the main story. In some ways more obvious than others (would be spoilers to list them though, unfortunately). I think people just don't really analyze that much. "Media literacy is dead" type shit. If the Geks revisited the movies after finishing the series, I'm sure they'd pick up on how the first two movies are significant to the plot of the entire story. Because they actually discuss and evaluate things, instead of going in with their minds made up and wanting to start fights in the comment section 😂

Since the movies were written after the current animated parts of the manga and then posthumously placed into the timeline, the characters obviously don't acknowledge these events, and if you view it as canon, then it seems kinda weird for everybody to be acting like this big incident that just occurred didn't happen. Its stuff like this where you could skip and your understanding of the many story wouldn't be affected. I really like the movies though, but it's hard to suspend by belief that the characters would just completely ignore these events, so i like thinking of them more as "what if"s with very slight elements that may be reintroduced into the main story. ABSOLUTELY no hate to the movies tho, they rock.

The blood from Deku's fingers acted as a medium, similar to how ingesting All Might's hair worked. Basically it's just another way of how the DNA is needed for the transfer. As for why Deku kept the power, All Might first suggested it was because the transfer was cut short. Bakugo was seriously injured soon after it began, and the chaos of the fight ended it before One For All could fully take hold. It probably explains why Bakugo could use it immediately, unlike Deku, who had to wait hours for it to activate before his season 1 exam; they SHARED the power this way instead of a permanent transfer. OFA’s transfer needs both intent and enough time for the new wielder to accept it. The other scenario All Might realized immediately after was that One For All has a will of its own: we know that it has its own sort of conscious from what we see in season 5 so far with the original blackwhip user and midoriya's dream. Chances are that the OFA vestiges decided Midoriya was the one it should remain with. Both are valid interpretations in my opinion. I can see how it its kind of just a cheap way to keep the story going, I can't really deny that. but I think it works based on what we know. (also idk if any of this was mentioned in the end discussion, I haven't watched that yet.)

Not that its not important, but its hard to fit what's happening in them with the main story. Maybe its more fluid in the manga. I am glad Deku didn't lose OFA. I know the transfer didn't go fully through, but Bakugo definitely did seem to have the same level of power, but also the same limitations with using it like Deku has. I also miss All Might. I know he is more or less quirkless now, but I still thought he'd be around and that we'd see more of the training.

Even all might struggled in some battles. It’s not how strong the power is it’s how you use it. We should never expect deku to instantly come back just by punching at 100% one time and then breaking his bones. He wouldn’t have even beat over haul without eri where he could constantly use %100. I love deku but he’s not there yet.

Kota, Eri, and Katsuma all have different hangups about quirks ("Heroes and quirks make society worse" vs "my quirk specifically is a curse" vs "my quirk isn't good enough to help me achieve my dream", respectively). I think Katsuma is a stronger parallel to young quirkless Midoriya than the other two are, which I found pretty compelling. They all are pretty similar for sure, but there is nuance. (I also don't think Mahoro has a problem with heroes, she just doesn't want her brother to become one and get himself hurt. But that's just my interpretation). And while you're right about the previous movie showing that young heroes can step up, All Might was still there to save them because they weren't really ready yet. In this one, they were actually on their own, and had to fight with no real heroes to fall back on, and they won. I think it shows their growth really well. 100% agree with you about the weird quirk reversion and memory loss though. Bakugo with OfA is a cool concept, with very poor scaffolding to hold it up.

This was supposed to be actual ending of the anime but it was scrapped so they made it into a movie. Think of the movies being canon something like this. Some of the things that happen in the movies are acknowledged, but not everything has to be taken as it really happened. It is a fun way to go crazy with animation while not affecting the main continuity or breaking it.

But it makes sense considering with where the movie is placed as Deku hadn't unlocked blackwhip yet - even though in the manga he would have by now - so i guess Bones had to do a 'it was all a dream' for Bakugo otherwise they would have had to deviate from the manga. Imo the first movie is definitely stronger for me but that fight is my favourite out of the four movies although the 4th movie is absolute madness :) thanks guys!

Deku (and bakugo) showing Mahoro how amazing heroes are? Already done with Kota. Deku showing a kid that his power is actually a blessing? Already done with eri. Even the villain, is an AFO ripoff. Thematically, this movie doesn’t contribute as much to the characters or story as the first one did. The first one was about essentially, the passing of the torch and how the young heroes will step up to the task. This one is a bit dubious, it’s almost the same message as the first few seasons. The animation is glorious, but there’s a reason Horikoshi scrapped that idea of OFA being passed to Bakugo, and I fear the whole passing on the torch only to have it revert back, and to give a bizarre explanation harms the good writing that the mangaka has put in, to actually explain a lot of the world building in the manga. The input by anime only content, feels a bit choppy like it doesnt fit it with the tone or direction of the manga, and I watched this movie a few days ago so I could watch it with y’all, and the fact that the absence of the movie doesn’t affect the plot at all, like I said, it’s a bit too convenient. A fun watch though? Absolutely

I look at them more as fun what-ifs or like a similiar timeline with some slight deviations. They still have gas animation and important character moments, plus subtle hints at whats to come, but the movies aren't necessarily essential essential to the story (In my humblest of opinions fr). I watched them all after season 7 and My journey was still mint as heck. Can't wait for end of season 5 and S6😁 peak overload

The villain was just a shallow punching bag that allowed all the students to go all out without effecting the main plot. Animation obviously is amazing but in terms of the story its pretty weak. I know a lot of people would argue against that seeing as certain characters make an appearance in the series later on, but I'd still say it's a could-have-been story. I love it for what it is regardless. Also, I absolutely headcanon that Bakugou woke up before Deku and transferred OfA back to him and then pretended to not remember so as to save his pride.

2025-08-14 08:01:22 +0000 UTCFor all its weak points, the best part of this movie for me was 100% the teamwork between Katsuki and Izuku. I love seeing them fight together, because they understand each other's styles so well that they complement each other like two perfect fitting puzzle pieces. It's so damn satisfying to witness their chemistry on screen, because no other pair can replicate what they can do together. There is a certain pride in seeing these two characters come so far from their days of hatred and fear. Not only are their minds wired in similar directions (analytical, sharp, focused and unafraid to sacrifice their bodies to win/save), they also need minimal words to communicate their intentions during a fight. While outside of fighting, they pretty much suck at using their words to reveal their inner thoughts, they keep up with each other perfectly well and to an almost scary degree throughout the entire series. The fact that Katsuki understood Izuku intended to transfer One For All to him without him needing to spell it out is one of the scenes that is most memorable to me. What's even more shocking is that Katsuki actually took Izuku's hand. I remember a good portion of fans were sceptical about Katsuki accepting Izuku's crazy suggestion, because receiving One For All from Izuku would mean that Katsuki's own power wasn't enough to defeat Nine (a philosophy he always, ALWAYS strives to uphold). He has never wavered in that regard (as in, accepting help that will boost his own abilities without him needing to work at it). At the time, seeing Katsuki take Izuku's hand was THE most heart-stopping scene in the entire movie. I literally held my breath because I wasn't sure if he would, despite hoping and anticipating he would. I thought he would disappoint my expectations. But Katsuki never has. And never will. And I thank Horikoshi every time I watch/read MHA for creating such a complex character who drags out all these emotions in the fandom aka me. Anyways, movie was amazing, reaction was goated, and I can't wait for the next drop. We're in the thick of it now. The story's just gonna keep getting more and more intense. I hope you guys are ready!

I remember watching this fight for the first time and just being silent the whole time, the animation and music was actually beyond peak. This fight means sum to me personally, it’s literally all I ever want in a fight besides emotions, it’s so good. This is like my top 10 fight in anime maybe, the animation is insane, and for a modern anime the fight is much longer than I thought it was while watching. The only modern anime fight that was long with insane animation consistently was sukuna vs mahoraga, this fight isn’t lengthy but just me sitting wondering when the peak is gonna end but it kept going with the music getting even more bombastic was just special. 10/10 just pure fighting and spectacle wise, can’t wait for what the new mha season got in stored for us.

It's the only one where basically all the class gets to participate in the plot to a decent extent as well as having great Deku/Bakugo payoff which I think the movies should aim for. Personally I'd say it goes 2>1>4>>>>>>>>>>>3. (3 is a major miss imo). 1 is a bit vanilla (I do really like it tho), but of all the movies it fits very neatly into the existing MHA story. The rest go a bit too nuts to be believable.

But they dont have to be not every entry in a series has to be, like currently the latest dbs movies plot doesn't matter other than to give gohan and picclo a new form. And that is rare for dragon ball they've only had a few movies that are cannon. but mha is a special case these events do happen just they arent that important in the grand scheme and to be honest thats fine cause the next few arcs repercussions are much bigger than than this. This is something you are gonna have to understand with anime they life to do shi like this all the time. Modern anime are chainging that with Demon slayer, jjk, adn csm. Its gonna be hard but this is really something ur gonna have to understand. Mha is special in that the movies are cannon so you can let yourself have fun and still appreciate the rest of the series i can assure you that you wont be disappointed at all. As someone who watched all this go down in real time i understand the feeling but seeing then as canon can enrich the story. Especially if you guys plan to watch vigilantes. And there is a nine prequel manga too if you want to see deku and bakugo meet him pre this movie and get more info on what his deal was. But id watch the end of this season before.

The last fight scene was absolute cinema! I also really like it because Hirokoshi (the mangaka) originally intended for MHA to end like this, with Deku giving Bakugo one for all in the last fight. He ended up going a different route with the story, so I think this was a really nice homage too what could’ve been.

There are a few mentions of these new characters in the Anime itself, but this movie in particular just goes way too far. I think in Japan the definition of "canon" is a bit looser so they can just not worry about making extra content all fit together.

2025-08-14 04:05:48 +0000 UTCEchoing what others have mentioned - Deku transferring OFA to Bakugou was actually a major part if Horikoshi's original ending for the series, and one that he gave approval for being used in this movie instead! I think that also lends to why the transfer back to Deku feels a little choppy in terms of writing/lore, along with another plot point you guys won't get until later in the story. I won't go into details either, but the movies were both (at least somewhat) overseen by Horikoshi and were canonized in the manga in a light way that doesn't affect the main plot, but I don't wish to spoil! all in all - I just have to be honest and say, as someone who considers MHA to be one of my favorite pieces of media, getting to relive it through yall and watch you genuinely enjoy it and engage with it gives me the same excitement and happiness I got when I read & watched it for the first time, and I'm so grateful for that, and for your candid interactions with it as a series. Cant wait to see how you feel about the story to come. : )

Ofc its amazing some of the best animation out there but like Cannon said its scales things up to sorta an unrealistic amount and doesn't really connect to the over arcing story. I'm sure Horikoshi enjoyed them when he watched them and he might call them cannon and wink at there existence but the truth is still that they were never apart of his original timeline of the story, and of course he's gonna say they're canon lol these movies make millions of dollars.

But his character isn’t being ruined or squandered just because his role in the story has shifted. At the end of the day, MHA isn’t his journey. The whole point from the start has been him passing on the torch, and part of that means stepping back so we can follow the journey of the person he chose to carry it. Just like how the embers of OFA have faded, his role as a powerful presence has too, and that’s intentional. What makes All Might great isn’t being the jacked and unstoppable hero in 4K lol. It’s his ideals, his selflessness, and the way he’s become an incredible mentor. Watching him guide his successor in the background is just as powerful in its own way as watching him fight in the spotlight, and I think that makes his character even better. Small Might has a special place in my heart :)

But the fact of the matter is that this isn’t All Might’s story (although I desperately want his full story lol). All Might is the GOAT, but he is unfortunately only a supporting character in Deku’s story. A crucial supporting character, though, bc he is both Deku’s ideal/dream and also the cause of Deku’s main conflict. By giving him OFA, he also gave Deku this centuries’ old legacy of tragedy and responsibility that he frankly should’ve been more upfront about lmao (in his defense, I suppose, he thought/hoped AFO was dead and no longer a threat). The fact that Deku accepted the immense burden of OFA’s legacy with such grace and courage proves that AM chose correctly.

The emotion, the music, the animation, thinking Deku is quirkless again—it is one of the coolest yet most shocking moments in the entire series. But the more I think about it, it is SUPER conflicting. I get why OFA chose to stay with Deku, and I respect how his willingness to give it up stays true to MHA’s themes. But although Bakugo forgetting was the cleanest way to wrap it up (if he remembered, it might’ve been weird), the way he just forgets is a bit too convenient. And while these events are “canon”, this movie is more of an interesting take on a “what if” scenario. Horikoshi said this was his original ending concept, so ultimately this is a passion project demonstrating what that could’ve looked like. For me, it’s simultaneously one of MHA’s most exhilarating highs yet most conflicting ideas. In the end, I think it’s just for enjoyment and seeing glimpses of OFA/Deku’s potential as he grows.

His desire to be a true hero far exceeds a mere ‘hero fantasy’ where one receives glory and adulation. Deku truly does good for its own sake rather than his own reward.

Which also makes more sense in terms of him not having to like ingest any DNA (well I guess they rubbed bloody fingers) or having to wait for a few hours for it to work etc
