Hey, I'm late to the game so I don't know if someone has already said this in the comments, but that wasn't what Luffy experiences every time he uses his devil fruit. It doesn't hurt him to stretch normally. He just took so much damage from all of the shadows that they stuffed into him and from the fight with moria in particular. That's what Zoro took, the pain from this fight specifically (which was a lot because Luffy was pretty close to death from all of those injuries).

Just rewatched your reaction while I’m patiently waiting for you to get to the next episodes. This reaction was so good. McKay just being so bewildered and shocked and loud about it was awesome. Carter pointing out that Zoro must have been in so much pain that he tore his own shirt off his body (a point I never actually tried to picture before, so that was awesome). Cannon’s jaw drops and Jack being so impressed by the Lion Strike, it was as if he saw it from the first time. Very nice guys, very nice.

Many people view that Zoro scene as Heroic and badass. Although I agree but it is also quite sad that Zoro has to be the one that shoulders all the pain and burden and he doesn’t even tell Sanji what happened arguably the closest member on the crew probably someone who can understand him the most. He is always so tense and serious since the crew sometimes is having too much fun and he knows his role in this crew is to be a solid rock. One that keeps check of everyone and it feels like he just shoulders everything alone 😭

To Cannon's point, the flower-flower fruit grows body parts; the dark-dark fruit gives gravity, on/off toggle, and pocket dimension; the rumble-rumble fruit produces lightning; the chill-chill fruit should makes things cold, but instead produces ice; Chopper's human-human fruit allows him to transform into several non-human forms. This isnt a gotcha comment, but fruit abstraction has definitely been established by this point. Obviously the paw-paw is the most extreme example, but i'd say Robin is comparable.

This arc really highlights Zoro's loyalty and bond with Luffy. It's so moving to me that Zoro is willing to throw away his greatest ambition so easilly just to save Luffy. No hesitation, no regret, when it came down to it, Zoro was immediately willing to disregard becoming the Strongest Swordsman to save his captain, and even in those moments of sacrifice he's still saying that Luffy will become the Pirate King. Zoro is so deserving of being Luffy's right hand man, I love their bond

Luffys durability is crazy but Zoro's durability and will can't be understated. Like Luffy took all of his own damage and passed out for the rest of the fight. Zoro took all of his OWN damage during the oars fight and Kuma fight, AND all of Luffy's damage and was STILL conscious for long enough that Sanji could wake up and come to him. Like that's fucking insane, Luffy couldn't even do that

I just love all the rewatch value that this show provides. There is some stuff that knowing what I know now I'm still a little suspect of how far ahead it was planned, but it honestly still fits together really well and that's so satisfying in like an AOT kind of way. Even when you feel like an arc wasn't as enjoyable for you compared to others, you'll be rewarded for watching that arc down the road, and that pretty much applies to any part of the show. Except maybe Syrup Village. Also there's probably no two words more notable in One Piece than "nothing happened."

They dont call One Piece the modern day Odyssey for no reason. One Piece is a very long story and has so much going on all the time, and you have yet to see like 90% of the history, lore, etc. I know a lot of things can be frustrating since they arent fully explained and feels random at the time, but trust me it will all make sense the more you watch. Oda loves making things open-ended so that they can come back at a much later date completing the circle and leaving you astonished.

Nothing Happened is 100% Zoro's moment, but just wanna talk about Sanji's development in these scenes too... Sanji in Episode 24 when Zoro is cut by Mihawk: "He should give up his ambition rather than die. It should be easy to give up your ambition, right?!" Sanji in Episode 377 speaking to Zoro and Kuma: "What good will come from your death? What happened to your ambition, stupid? Hey Colossus, instead of taking that mosshead swordsman's life, take mine. Don't take his life, take mine... I've always been prepared to sacrifice myself for the others." Sanji's goes from berating Zoro for being willing to die for his ambition/dreams, to now Sanji himself being ready to die so that Zoro/Luffy can live and fulfill their ambition/dreams. It's an often overlooked moment in the episode but it's so important for seeing how Sanji's character has developed over these past 350 episodes.

Zoro saying nothing happened is definitely because he doesn't want the recognition or thanks for what he did. He simply did what was necessary for the crew to survive. But I also like to think that this moment shows Zoro just how much pain and suffering Luffy goes through every time he pushes himself to the limit for his crew. Luffy doesn’t complain or ask for thanks — he just toughs it out, passes out for a few days, eats some food, and then moves on to continue pursuing his goal.

I love love love Zoro man. Zoro's loyalty towards Luffy is immeasurable and him also stepping out for the rest of the crew was touching. I'm going to give my flowers to Sanji as well. He was also willingly to die for Luffy and didn't hesitate to sacrifice himself for Zoro. And notice how Sanji instantly recognized Zoro was missing after waking up. I do love their brotherly bond. Love the outro. I remember way back in the beginning, Carter recognized and embraced the underlying cartoonishness/goofiness of the show, which makes the serious moments really stand out and hit hard. Maybe it’s a bizarre comparison, but One Piece really feels similar to Avatar the Last Airbender in that regard: heavy themes and hard-hitting serious moments built on top a foundation of comedy.

kuma is supposed to be a bear (Kuma is literally the Japanese word for bear). As to why his fruit is called the paw paw fruit and "repels"... it's more like he "absorbs" and "disperses" things just like how animal paws have evolved to absorb shock from impact and disperse it to prevent them from hurting their feet and legs (or something like that. ngl Oda was probably just trying to make his fruit match the theme of a bear and decided on using some round about logic for it being called the paw paw fruit XD)

I agree it sucks that the show is so long and takes time to learn about things but I think one thing I have come to appreciate about the show being so long is the fact that you can tell after catching up that Oda intentionally places things/stories where they're supposed to be. I don't know how to explain it and I don't wanna glaze Oda too much (he kinda annoying 😂) but when you learn about something it is a point in the story where it will make sense that you are learning about it right then and there. Even the backgrounds of some characters, and it all goes back to the fact that the one piece story is just so much more than the eye meets.

loved the reaction!! I also got really emotional when I watched this the first time zoro is one of the best representations of loyalty in all media imo. when he joined luffy, he told him that if he ever got in the way of achieving his goal he would have to pay for it… and now, he has grown to love him and the crew to the point it surpasses his own life and ambition🥲 and If you stop to think about it, kuma not wanting to disrespect that says something about his character. love how this ep puts these characters into different perspectives I’ve said this a lot but, all the straw hats are beautifully written, I’m beyond excited for what’s to come honestly🕺

I think I rewound Zoro’s Lion Strike a dozen times on first watch. That moment alone had me so hooked, it made every following moment more amazing. Thriller Bark in general is an arc I really enjoy, specifically the beginning funny scenes like meeting Brooke, running into the forest, Luffy pushing the zombie back into its grave and just the contrast between the scaredy cat Straw Hats VS our strong ones making it into Moriah’s castle. Then Ryuma was just a delight, and finally, from Nightmare Luffy until the end of the arc.

You get the fruit with the power to repel, and Kuma uses it to repel objects, attacks, air, himself and even abstracts like pain and suffering.
