GUYS! Crunchyroll now has—unless I missed it before—separate seasons for Old Neil’s Mysticism Class and Chibi Theatre. They give some great details! Lesson 3 in particular is fun, gives good context on the Sequence skills, and some hype for Klein’s progression. They only refer to stuff that’s already been in the show, so no spoilers. I wonder if we’ll get new ones with each main episode…

2025-07-30 20:32:29 +0000 UTCI have some bad news if you want to know what the main plot is guys (Don't want to say when in case you consider it spoilers), just for your knowledge this is a trilogy. As for book vs anime, anime has great moments, really loved the Azik episode, but a lot of world and character building is cut out. Most importantly, a lot of context is going over your heads due to how rushed the anime , not to mention the info that is cut from the anime, even what is included has been delivered very poorly.

2025-07-30 15:26:35 +0000 UTCBasically the structure of the show is very different from the novel. In the novel all the episodic events seen in the show are all kind of happening at the same time. So the Nighthawks are investigating many different things at once and then they each reach their conclusions while another case may also be going on in the background. As you can imagine it would be pretty hard to adapt them finding clues to different cases all the time. So the studio decided to do an event based structure so that everything that is related to a certain case are all put together into a single episode instead of spread out. They are leaving out some small details of what happens so things are moving really fast but keeping the important main points each episode/case. A lot of the world building/background/abilities of each sequence infodumping is put into the old Neil mysticism lessons (on YouTube) instead. While slice of life events/character interactions unrelated to the case in the episode are put into the chibi shorts. Which is unfortunate but they only have 13 episodes for 213 chapters.

2025-07-30 06:58:55 +0000 UTC5:10 the mandated punishers and machinery hivemind are just the Nighthawk equivalent of 2 other churches (the church of the lord of storms and the church of the god of steam and machinery respectively). I think it was described in one of the old Neil lesson episodes. 9:39 it says “idiot” in Chinese 13:47 a bit more information on the 3 part honorific. Basically only the Gods have 3 part honorifics while beings weaker than them require more lines. This is because the more powerful one is, more general descriptions can specify them. However describing someone weak with many lines probably also won’t do anything because they are too weak. It only works for Klein cuz of the gray fog. Just as an example if you say something like “the goated basketball player of the modern age”, it may be enough to directly specify Lebron because of how good he is and how he is viewed in current day. However other players may also be seen as goats but are not as “powerful” as Lebron so you need more lines to specify exactly who it is since many people may match the description. 14:17 military training is required in China as part of their education although it’s for only a few weeks 23:13 Frye avoided getting frozen cuz he’s a Corpse Collector I believe the version released in China actually had some text on screen to explain but I don’t think Crunchyroll updated Ep 6 33:00 It is 1 minute in a 15 meter radius, not 15 minutes

2025-07-30 00:13:18 +0000 UTCCan’t watch reaction for a bit but some things you guys might’ve been confused about: Ep 5 The pendant thing that Klein found in the underground market that is said to be Roselle’s just says “Idiot” on it in Chinese Klein used a ritualistic prayer to restore the mirror and have it reflect Trissy. You heard the ending portion of it in the episode. The “Sunflower Manual” is referring to a classic martial arts technique in well known Chinese stories where the user has to castrate oneself to practice it (typically very powerful tho). Ep 6 Klein gets burned cuz he is looking at something he isn’t supposed to look at. And by looking at something he isn’t supposed to look at he learns things that he isn’t supposed to know. If the gray fog didn’t exist he would be dead.

But yeah I definitely highly recommend Old Niel's Mysticism because I think it'll clear up a lot of confusion of the pathways which in turn will make some story elements make more sense. I know a lot of people find it annoying to have to look up extra things outside of the episode but honestly it increases the enjoyment for me. It feels like the pay off of a good test score after studying lol
