As a kpop fan of almost 2 freaking decades (est 2005), all I ask is that you do the reactions because you want to. Your curiosity for the music is genuine, but what I find that happens is new kpop reactors start out enthusiastic of the new discovery, and then the pressure from the kpop fans causes them to react to recommendations they may not even end up liking--and then sensitive fans attack, and then we start seeing fake reactions of enjoyment to appease the fanbases giving them all the new views and subscriptions, and it's painful to watch. It's an easy trap to fall into. I love watching you guys discover korea's pop culture, kdramas, all that--but please, just stay true to yourselves. If you stay honest about your reactions (don't gotta please all the fans), you got nothing to worry about.

Like some others have said getting into kpop as a reaction channel can often be overwhelming due to fan behavior and demands, but kpop itself has so much to offer and we're not all bad! I personally am a fan of Seventeen, Boynextdoor, XG and a few others. Kpop not only has music, performances but also variety shows that can be really hilarious. Core4VT are an example of kpop and kdrama reactors (along with other stuff) that remind me of you guys, they're very open and are here to try new things and they've gotten really deep into some kpop stuff now, just mentioned them to show that its possible you guys might end up really liking kpop :))

As a K-pop fan, I'm against you making K-pop reaction videos because some fans will force you to repeatedly watch videos of their bias, and the comment section will turn into a HELL when you give an opinion like "this song isn't good" "lyrics are tacky" and I've seen some reactors get into K-pop for many years, but most of them quit it within a year for several reasons, and the rest just gave soulless reactions over and over again. I hope you can handle all of that but...

I’m not a kpop stan but I’ve gotten into it through kdramas, and I think it’s a genre that’s really misunderstood. A lot of idols are insanely talented and hardworking, especially considering the pressure and mistreatment they face. That said, as much as I like it I don’t think you guys should start reacting to it. Kpop reaction videos bring in views but can get intense with fan pressure. I’ve seen channels get overwhelmed or shut down because of how demanding some viewers can be. You’re already juggling many different kinds of content, so maybe explore it on your own time. Some BTS solo stuff is a great place to start!

KINGS,, this is a great great movie. idk if we're starting to venture into music, but if you are, don't overwhelm yourselves- it's best to go one artist at a time and get to know their sound, lyrics, and artistry. This movie has many hidden meanings in its lyrics. For example in the song Golden : "Now i'll leave the patterns in the past and shine in gold" but it wasn't her, but the clothes covering her that were shining. For the other members, this song was a song of overcoming past wounds and liberation, but for Rumi, who only tried to hide her patterns it couldn't be that way. In that sense, Golden is ultimately a half baked song. That's why it's never been properly sung in the movie. Every time she sang it, it was interrupted by the power of the evil spirit inside Rumi, that she was trying to ignore, or by the evil spirit digging into her weaknesses. It wasn't until the very end that Rumi fully accepted her past and her shortcomings, forgave and acknowledged herself, and was able to shine not with her clothes but with the patterns engraved on her body itself. At that time, the song she finally sang wasn't Golden, but a different song. A song she couldn't write before but could sing now, "the song we couldn't write, this is what it sounds like."

I saw these analysis/ facts from other people and i found it interesting to put them here for you. They are called "saja boys" bcs in korea they have a thing called "jeoseugsaja" "jeoseung" means hell and "saja" means emissary. They believed that to a person who is meant to go to hell and is near to his death a jeoseungsaja is waiting near him, to guide him to the underworld the moment he dies. Their commonly known appearance is pale, with black lips, very tall, sharp eyes, and always wearing a black hanbok and a gat (traditional hat). So it’s like a grim reaper.

so right now, with the release of this movie and across the spiderverse, sony has released 2 great animated movies, but… they dont fulfill the promises of the plot elements because they want to save it for another movie so instead of getting the pay off from the set up in the movie, you have to wait for the sequel which is basically a big cash grab that really pisses me off to think about because it ruins good stories. but to me, it was just so clear that these creators wanted to tell a bigger story but they couldnt probably due to budget constraints, I’m sure a movie like this does take a lot of time, but still, I just want a full complete movie in this era of hollywood

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve seen so many YouTube reactors either take a break or shut down their channels entirely because of the pressure from the comment section. Even if they started off doing it for fun and everything was going well, over time, people became more demanding, selfish, and insistent, expecting them to react to every group and like every song. It’s incredibly draining. To be honest, I’m a former K-pop fan myself, and now I can’t stand the community. I only check in on how BTS are doing from time to time, but I avoid K-pop spaces online completely. That’s why I really don’t want Geks to go through the same thing. I just genuinely enjoy how sincere and authentic they are with their anime reactions.

Anyway, another animated movie that does this is "Belle". It's Japanese and I don't hear it talked about basically at all, but I personally really like that movie and the music. "You dont wanna get into kpop because the fans are crazy" i absolutely hate when people say this because people dont get into kpop for the fans anyway. It's about the appreciation of hard work and the music and performance. And for what it's worth, as long as the reactor is respectful about what isnt for them, and they set boundaries like "no spam requests" or "be respectful in the comments" I would say 90% of kpop stans adhere to that. "Kpop stans are worse than anime fans" every Fandom, if large enough is going to have bad people in it. Kpop stans are just viewed as "crazy defensive" because 90% of people who dont listen to kpop are really rude and hateful towards it.

as much as i love the genre personally, and I've been into it for almost 10 years now, I would respectfully say, kpop is a bag of worms you don't want to open. It's even more consuming than the world of kdramas and ya'll have barely dipped your toe into that. Getting into korean media comes with an endless stream of requests and it's so terribly drama filled. Maybe a few videos of reacting to one song from different groups would be fun and cool but even that would lead to people complaining about the songs and the groups you didn't watch. Kpop fans can be incredibly entitled with reactors, even more than what you've seen with anime fans.

You must understand that the reason Kpop is so big is not just the songs themselves. It's the music videos, the choreos , the variety shows, the fancams. It's such a different industry than ours. I feel like there's not much to react to lol Like it's not like with the shows where you can give your opinion to the storyline and the characters. MV's and stuff are too short and loose for that. Theyre just gonna sit there for three minutes and tell us whether the music was nice or not at the end. That's not really that much fun i think. And kpop stans get wayyyy too butthurt if you dont pay enough attention or are too quiet etc during reactions, the comment section would be hell

Also, i thought I'd add, kpop is NOT A MUSIC GENRE. It's a separate music industry. Groups like straykids and bts have over 50 music genres in their discography. The reason kpop is a music industry is because there's different fan culture, and it's WAY more fast paced than the pop industry. It's common for a kpop group to release an album every couple of months. The "generations" in kpop only last about 10 years, and groups can disband even faster. Thanos from squid game was T.O.P in the group BIGBANG which is a 2nd gen group, BTS and BLACKPINK are 3rd gen, groups like STRAYKIDS and IVE are 4th gen, and we're currently in k-pops 5th generation. That doesn't mean that all groups will disband when their generation ends though. BIGBANG and SHINEE are active 2nd gen groups, and almost every 3rd and 4th gen group is still active and more promotional than some 5th gen groups. There are even kpop adjacent groups like Xdinary Heroes (rock band that promotes on the same level as kpop groups) KATSEYE (global girl group with 6 different nationalities, ethnicities, cultures etc. That don't sing in korean but promote like a kpop group) and DPR IAN (once a 2nd gen kpop idol but doesn't associate with the industry anymore, who is now a solo R&B/experimental artist but will occasionally promote on Korean music shows and interact with kpop idols and etc) and WayV (Chinese group who are also all a part of the massive kpop group NCT, and promote like kpop groups) so yeah.. sorry for the essay..
