Fate zero gave you guys the wrong impression of her, which can’t blame you for not knowing their different person.

As a longtime Fate fan, I just wanted to address a couple things I saw in the reactions that weren't answered satisfactorily imo (spoiler-free, of course). Hopefully this is helpful to the Geks and/or anyone reading this! What's the relationship between the Fate anime (Zero, UBW, HF)? Fate/stay night was originally adapted from the 2001 visual novel (think story RPG, just without any actual gameplay elements). It has three "routes," or three variations of the same story with different outcomes: the Fate route, the Unlimited Blade Works route, and the Heaven's Feel route. The latter two were adapted by ufotable, but the first one only received a subpar adaptation in 2006. Fate/Zero was adapted from a light novel series that was written in 2007, after the first Fate/stay night anime adaptation. It serves as a prequel (in a slightly different timeline, but it's fine to think of Zero and stay night as being in the same timeline), which causes confusion about the watch order. I strongly believe Zero should be read/watched after stay night, as that is the intended order. There's a lot of information, characterization/dialogue, and terminology in Zero that is either difficult or impossible to understand completely without context from stay night, which I know you guys experienced. You guys already watched Zero first, so what's done is done; I don't even think it's necessarily bad, and it's definitely not going to ruin the Fate experience, just that UBW > HF > Zero is superior imo. Why does Saber suck? It's primarily the Fate route (the one with no good anime adaptation) where almost all of Saber's characterization occurs. Unfortunately, the viewer is already assumed to have read the Fate route (or watched 2006 stay night), so the ufotable adaptations don't add any Saber content that isn't present in the Zero/UBW/HF source material. There's no good solution but to read the VN, unfortunately, as the 2006 adaptation spoils certain parts of the other routes by combining them into one (and is just bad). Of course, there are people who glaze Saber after only watching the anime, which I honestly don't understand, but that's not you guys so just thought I'd explain why she feels so boring. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to any of the live watch parties, but I'm looking forward to seeing more Fate reactions!
