Lucy the Valiant is Hufflepuff, Edmund the Just represents Slytherin, Susan the Gentle represents Ravenclaw, and Peter the Magnificent represents Gryffindor. So J.K. Rowling took a ton of inspiration from C.S. Lewis. Additionally, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings, were best friends who frequently made bets with each other while writing their books and constantly inspired one another.

2025-06-09 23:03:26 +0000 UTCWe used to be 5 cousins approximately at the same age for the longest time, so we used to be called the “five leaf clover” (roughly translated) because of that, and we loved Narnia. Sadly the others got to be the siblings every time we were reenacting the movies, and I “got” to be Aslan, it used to infuriate me despite it being lion-jesus. Can’t imagine watching Narnia without all the childhood memories, I feel bad that it isn’t a nostalgic watch for Carter and Cannon. I am excited to see the reactions to the next movie tho!!

Carter, chainmail was more specialized for protection against slashing than piercing. While some piercing weapons could penetrate chainmail, it typically prevented deeper penetrations from most weapons. That being said, I don't think Jadis' broken staff would be able to pierce chainmail, but it is magic ig. Of course, blunt weapons were great against armored opponents. It's for this reason that techniques such as Mordhau ("murder-stroke" in German) evolved; it involves holding the sword inverted by the blade so that the hilt can be used as a blunt weapon. As full-plate armor became more prevalent, specialized polearms became increasingly common as they could be utilized as slashing, thrusting, and blunt-force weapons. The real MVP melee weapons of history were not swords, but rather polearms like the spear, pike, or the more "knightly" poleaxe.

And it doesn’t hit the same watching it as you get older. Versus stuff like Star Wars, Harry Potter, LOTD, Jurassic park, etc. is that this movie doesn’t really age with you. The other examples you can really appreciate and enjoy them at all different ages for different reasons + nostalgia. I think I saw the second narnia movie but I don’t remember Jack shit lmao. I barely remembered the first one tbh. These movies just really didn’t stick with me. But I did get a few laughs at some of the corny moments lmao.

2025-06-08 06:09:41 +0000 UTCDamn it sucks when you rewatch a movie that you really liked when you were younger and now you realize just how mediocre it is, besides the cast, cgi, costumes, and music which were all fantastic. 2.5 hours and yet it feels so fast paced and nothing was really explained or dived into, like the white witch's motivation, what Narnia is, what the rest of it looks like, or what happened to the humans, etc. I haven't read the books but I know there had to be a lot more to it that was just cut out for whatever reason. Which is unfortunate because it seems to have a lot of potential. It was like watching the theatrical edition of Fellowship of The Ring but with an extra hour being cut out.

These men went into it still having their sense of childhood innocence, but were forced to grow up (traumatized) by the misery they went through. So like all the siblings living 20-ish years in Narnia, growing up and making memories, only to be children again when they exit the wardrobe. They look like kids and should act like kids, but they're adults now.

2025-06-08 05:14:53 +0000 UTCIf you're looking for some great WWII films, Dunkirk and Saving Private Ryan are excellent options, but I'm unsure if you've had a chance to watch either of them. I also like Fury, but I wouldn't put it at the same level as those two. For shows, Band of Brothers is one of a kind. If you want something from WWI, which is all too often ignored in favor of WWII, watch All Quiet on the Western Front. Both the original and the 2022 remake are some of the best examples of anti-war films out there. Edit: As GreetswithJudgement mentioned, Full Metal Jacket is also a great film, but it's certainly got a different vibe to it. It's a Vietnam War film, rather than WWI or WWII.

The Chronicles of Narnia represents a simplified but well told story about the fundamentals of the Christian faith and dogma, although most importantly it's just a really well told story. The first four books are in chronological order taking place between 1940 and 1942. The fifth tells a story that took place during The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe while the Pevensies sat on the thrones. The sixth is the Genesis of the series and explains Narnia's inception, taking place in 1900. the 7th is the Revelations and covers Narnia's end, taking place in 1949.

I went home and got my complete set of Narnia books and traded them. at the time I wasn't a fan compared to LOTR so no sweat. the small wrinkle I didn't consider is they were my great grandmother's signed first print first editions
