My top 3 would have to be 1) Hange 2) Armin 3) Gabi I have mixed emotions about Eren. I think he was overwhelmed by seeing the future and it really warped him. If he hadn't had the attack titan in him I wonder if he still would have done all this. I really want him to have redemption in the end, but I feel like we aren't going to get that. Bradlynn made a good point about how there will never truly be peace. There is always going to be conflict. Thats why Erens solution frustrates me because it's not going to end all conflict. My favorite scene was when we find out that Eren knew what was going to happen and that his future self fostered this hatred in himself and in his father. It was devastating, but also a good twist I didn't see coming. I knew something in Eren changed, but this made it click in place.

You can't catch everything on the first watch, but depending on your age/maturity, you can certainly understand the show on the first watch. While I love AoT, this indeed constitutes glazing. I've seen this perspective a lot, though. I think AoT stands out so much because many people who watch it haven't seen many (or any) other shows or films that even cover some of the same complex topics or philosophical perspectives. I'd say Isayama excels most in his ability to feed the audience information while still keeping the air of mystery. He (for the most part) does well at portraying antagonists as well. I think where he struggles most is pacing; most would consider the pacing a positive aspect of the show, since it never really drags on. Despite this, I think the way he flies through things prevents him from covering some complex themes beyond the surface level. It does allow for the series to always feel fresh, though, as there's always something new and interesting being introduced. I think the compelling story of the world he'd created needed more material to truly do it justice. I think he wanted to wrap up the series, rather than dedicate even more of his life than he already had to it.

In hindsight they barely interacted, and are each part of the two few canon romances in the show lol. Both of their individual love stories are such tragic and meaningful parts of the story, so it was funny seeing everyones own interpretations

Mikasa brutally killing those soldiers is not just about being bad ass. It seems like she is just savage, but it succesfully breaks the enemies morale and they flee instead of fighting to the death. She overkills a few people in the most flashy way and then gives the remaining soldiers an intimidating look to save more lives. She also times it right as Floch dies when enemy morale is already wavering, before that she was only killing people that posed a risk to their mission. Like there is no other reason to use a thunderspear to blow up 2 dead soldiers than either her being psycho and enjoying the situation, or because she doesn't want to kill more of her former allies. Based on Mikasa's character I think it's clear which one it is.

Love or hate Floch but that scene of him blocking Hange and dodging the titans was SOO GOOD. Over the 4 years, Floch knows how to fight fr. People underestimated him. After seeing how Floch wasn't lying about Eren telling him about his plan and asking him to pretend, it made me appreciate his character more. So, I actually like Floch. I don't support all of his actions but I really liked how his character was done throughout the show

My girl Mikasa fumbled the bag with my man Eren 😔 Nothing worse than being rejected by being called family 😂 My girl has been waiting for this moment to confess her love and she choked up😔 She's so real tho, love her😂 I also disagree with the statement that Mikasa's character just being obsessed over Eren. There's a lot more to her that I think doesn't really get appreciated in this secondary arc. Even tho Mikasa looked so badass when she was fighting the Yeagerists, I still felt so sick watching how they are killing their comrades. Especially knowing how tired they are of betrayal and now are being called the traitors. The whole episode of them killing their comrades shouldn't really be hyped up, personally my reaction to it was just sadness. I'm glad Levi sat out for this one because lord knows how much he's been through.

I like to think Armin and Floch make up both sides of Erwin’s personality and leadership. A yin-yang dichotomy if you will. Armin has Erwin’s righteousness. What needs to be done for the greater good, even if at his own expense. He also has his inquisitiveness; seeking answers and knowledge. Floch has Erwin’s ruthlessness. The lengths he’s willing to go to see his goals come to fruition, even if it means sacrificing his own. The way they developed in their formative growth, you can see how Erwin inspired them — albeit in different ways. They both carry characteristics of him, and yet also are leagues apart from him.

After this rewatch Erwin is still cemented as my GOAT. You can literally feel his presence missing but simultaneously hanging about through characters like Floch, Levi, Hange and Armin. In a way they represent the worst and best parts of him. But what doesn’t get enough credit is how Eren and Erwin are great contrast/comparison characters. One began the cause and the other ended it.

I whole-heartedly believe that you don't even slightly understand this show until you watch it for the 2nd time. I'm so glad the boys did this watch though. Even on my 17th watch through, I still don't fully grasp the weight/philosophy/history/intelligence/suffering/relation/relevance, etc.. of this series. Every time I pick up/discover more and every time I am blown away at how clever and perceptive Isayama is. Call me a glazer all you want, but I'll put this story up against the greatest stories of humankind. For me, it's in the same category as The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Iliad, Beowulf, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Dickens... whatever...

Isn't it interesting how for all the shit Mikasa gets about "being obsessed" with Eren or being "delusional", she's one of the people who understands him the most? She realizes something about Eren, that maybe he never changed, that Eren himself doesn't realize until the very end. It's a little unfortunate how Mikasa's secondary arc just doesn't really exist in the anime in the same capacity, and a lot of her lines got changed for the worst. Still, she remains a great character that adds a lot to the narrative thematically and otherwise and I couldn't imagine the show without her presence.

Eren is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, so it makes me a little sad that a lot of people don't understand his character. Admittedly, when I first watched aot, I couldn't really understand his motivations either, but after watching it several times, a lot of things make a lot of sense. The video I linked down bellow actually sums up perfectly why he is one of the most tragic and misunderstood characters. It takes a little longer to watch, but I highly recommend it to everyone as it dives deep into Eren's psyche and also sheds light on the circumstances that led to his behavior. It also perfectly draws parallels to Reiner and Gabi, but also to Isayama himself and his writing process for AOT. Eren is not a tragic hero, nor a soulless monster. He was simply a little boy who, with his childish black-and-white thinking, was given a god-like power at an early age. It's crazy to think that if their world had the equivalent of even WWII technology, they could've had the potential to stop the Rumbling (at least without interference). The advancements in aircraft and the arrival of nuclear weaponry alone would be a massive game-changer. The main issues would be preparation and possibly needing to rearm if not enough aircraft are present. The modern world we live in now would have little difficulty, so the Rumbling would have to be something entirely different for it to pose such a threat.

I have never seen Vinland Saga, but I've only heard amazing things about it. I think as I've grown up (31 now...), I've grown out of love with anime, apart from some f-ing bangers like AoT and FMAB (which I have ranked at #2 and #4 of my favorite shows of all time behind Band of Brothers and Breaking Bad at 1 and 3) that I first saw when I was younger. For anyone who wasn't aware, when Floch was flying towards the ship, he was only using gas, not his hooks (and maybe the thunderspear's propellant lol). I think the thunder spear explosion broke/disconnected the trigger mechanism for his hooks on his right arm.

Awesome post-episode discussion, Carter asking all the right questions as always and doing a great job leading the conversation. I think my current top 3 characters are actually: 1. Mikasa 2. Armin 3. Eren This episode brings a lot of humanity back to Eren despite everything that's going on. At this point in my first watch I was just hurt by Eren, but now I can see clearly his dedication to his friends and his rationale behind how he acts with Mikasa. Armin will always be Eren's truest friend and has been solid as a rock in terms of his morals and his loyalty to those he cares about. It's interesting to see him happy and "free" on the other side of the sea compared to how Eren feels. And say what you want about Mikasa but she'll stop at nothing to get to Eren and it's just awesome watching her cut through anyone and anything that gets in her way. Though she has deepened as a character at this point and we can see she cares about more than just Eren. The symbolism of her scarf throughout the show is just so cool as well.

This show does an amazing job with the female characters. Their feats don’t feel forced, and the ODM gear provides a really great plot device to allow them to be what appears to be semi-equal footing. Mikasa is OP from the jump but it’s explained, and paired with Levi it’s awesome and makes sense. The characters aren’t sexualized and add tons of real, organic value to the story. A+ writing masterpiece in so many ways from Isayama

12:06 I'm late for the reaction. I like how Mappa animated season 4, but I hate how they glazed Falco in this scene. There's no way I would ever believe Floch, who has needed a posse to do anything, could fight against 2 titan shifters and the commander of the Scouts back to back. I prefer him running away from the Cart Titan with his tail tucked between his legs like he does in the manga. That's much more believable.

This is not MHA :( .... AOT fell off after the timeskip IMO. As a manga reader back then I was so disappointed in how things went after the timeskip I stopped caring for AOT altogether. Its a disappointment in my eyes. Great series up until timeskip. Even the anime quality generally became worse when it happened after season 3 lol

Eldia tried peace? When? Can you point to the episode? Because in this episode where we see the scouts in Marley for the first time, Eren abandoned the group and started planning the attack on the festival before they had attempted a single diplomatic action. If you’ve actually seen the finale SPOILERS Eren even admits in his last scene the rumbling had nothing to do with protecting the island. That was an excuse. He did it because he wanted the world to be an empty blank slate like he imagined when he read Armin’s book.

I don’t care what anyone says—Eren did what he had to do. Eldia tried peace, and the world still hated them. Their options were either to use Historia, repeat the cycle, and push the problem onto the next generation (and remember, global technology was advancing so fast that within a decade or two the Titans would be irrelevant, leaving Eldia doomed anyway) or for Eren to use every ounce of his power to protect his people, even if that meant destroying the rest of the world.

Insane callback to the 1st season Who would've though that when Eren said that he was gonna "Wipe them out from the face of this world" he was talking about the entire world instead of the titans this whole time (hence the flashback to his mom getting eaten). And the soundtrack at the end was a brilliant choice as that theme that was primarily used to incite hope throughout the show is the same theme used to incite fear and despair as the rumbling begins to destroy the world. Brilliantly Executed
