gabi tilted me a lot after killing sasha but she did have quite the character development for sure

Riya

But yeagrist doesn’t just want to save island, Floch want to bring back eldian empire which is known as conquering other nations and so their fear is right but not their methods. Have you noticed how yeagrists are bunch of teenagers? The only reason I feel baad for them is because they let their fear dicatate their actions, but that’s because they had limited perspective and didn’t spend time in outside world like scouts or know better than millary police. Military police was going to defend Eldia from the least violent path, but then yeagrist betrayed their own because they were afraid. So it’s like alliance are lighter shade of grey and yeagrist the darker. Watxh the scene when they are executing onyakapon and listen to what he says. They are right about saving the island but their methods and especially Floch and yeagrist who cheered for the executions of people and want to bring back eldian empire for 2000 years crushed any other nation are wrong.

No matter how many times I watch this show I am always on Eren's side. Not saying killing everyone is correct thing to do, but in these circumstances, it was a valid answer. It is u or them. I am not that honorable to say my ppl should die so rest could live, but I also love scouts' idealism, and I do respect them trying to find another way, even if they know there really isn't one. You know it is a good show when u get both sides of the conflict.

Uros Vesic

I've watched the show probably 10 times, and every time i watch it, I side with the Jeagerist because, its either us or them and, every time i will choose me and the people i love so that they can live longer. The hardest question is who will be in Eren's shoes, because this is the hardest part. Watching someone else do the dirty work, killing all the eventual enemies and all the innocent people so that me and my loved ones can live. And actually, you being the one committing it is the hardest part. Because i don't think I will be able to do a mass genocide. I always loved what Azumabito was saying to Floch, about the nature of conflict itself. Because It's going to happen eventually on the island, always war and peace dance in a vicious circle. So in the end, it doesn't matter what side you take, because it always comes full circle anyway, as we saw in the end of the show.

Flock is interesting because he’s a mirror of how extremism can happen in our world. His initial fanaticism was focused on his adoration of Erwin, disregarding Eren entirely. But when Erwin died, Floch’s fanaticism transferred to Eren. The trauma he experienced, especially in war, may not have caused him to latch on to certain ideologies, but it definitely made it easier to be so extreme.

Jaydashed

From the prospective of an islander I'd see it this way. Indeed genocide is wrong, but it's either them or us. Either way genocide is going to take place. I'd choose the evil that keeps me alive - no apology given.

Tim Moore

I’m finally caught up but at what cost🥲 I can’t believe it’s almost over We need to get the girlies into a happy show after all this suffering😭 plus I don’t want them to go yet😔

TheSauceGuy

Floch is an interesting character to me because I believe he is a necessary one for the story. He desires death to have meaning, and for ordinary soldiers like him to know just what they're dying for. He started as a grunt who was destined to die. In a way, Floch is a living ghost of Erwin's fallen comrades. After surviving the suicide charge, he experiences trauma and guilt, trying to grasp at why he alone survived. He feels hatred for Erwin, yet understands the devil in him that led to this horrifying outcome, which is why he states only a devil can save their people. There is respect for Erwin. To him, it's the only plausible method to save his people. He wants there to be purpose in sacrifice. The devil in Erwin clawed out of his corpse and possessed Floch. Floch becomes a facet of Erwin's character, while the other successor, Armin, becomes another. What's fascinating to me is Armin has brought up the topic of discarding one's own humanity for the greater good a few times in the past, and this is basically the ideology Floch manifests. He represents the Eldian pro rumbling perspective better than anyone else and the fact that so many viewers despise him is a testament to why he's a well written character. Floch is the side of Erwin that embraces the devil while Armin, while having lied and killed before, such as lying to Bertolt about Annie and destroying the port in Marley, still believes in a peaceful solution and actively tries to search for one. Doesn't always work out in his favor, but he tries. I don't condone Floch's methods, but any ordinary person is capable becoming like him given the circumstances. Are his actions morally reprehensible and wrong? Absolutely. Do I understand his reasoning and circumstances? Yes, to an extent. Floch offers a different perspective and is an important and realistic character that plays off the main cast well. If you consider his character to be the unfortunate outcome of an endless cycle of hatred and trauma, an attempt to showcase the justification of death as a means to a greater cause, and an alternate perspective for attaining freedom, he ends up IMO as a good character that fits into the story nicely. There's a lot more to Floch but I'm kinda just giving the top of my head thoughts, there's more to analyze because he really is interesting in the scope of the story.

I wish I had encountered The Ones Who Walk Away from Omerlas earlier in life, a powrful story.

hman70

The idea of a character so damaged by PTSD turning that hatred outward is interesting and realistic, as a character he's reprehensible, and I don't understand why I've seen him portrayed as this solemn warrior who just wants to protect his people. He' s clearly shown sadistic tendencies, takes pleasure in the idea of dominating or even killing people who displease him, etc. He's an important and interesting character, the people who idolize him are crazy.

jerry

The Jaegerists are content with allowing an atrocity to continue because they believe it'll allow them to finally live in peace. Those who have their doubts will mostly repress these feelings out of fear. Some may also feel there is simply nothing they can do to stop the Rumbling. The concept of "a utopia" relying on the suffering of others is not a new one. I read an interesting short story for a class in college called "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas," and I'd encourage anyone reading this to check it out.

TheSauceGuy

i will never like Floch! Fuck that guy.

Cannon Andrus

We can make the parallel with "The Last Of Us". Even when most people die from the infected, Humans always fight each other because they want to "protect THEIR community". As long as you see others as THE OTHERS, war will go on.

Sari-chan

When Conny killed his friends from the Cadets — it was one of the hardest and most painful personal arcs in the whole show. For me it’s really hard to watch when main character have to kill their friend. Nothing cool about it. I still doubt if it’s a right thing to do, even if you do it to save the world. They killed people they had known for years, people they had been friends with and served with, in order to save strangers on the other side of world who would most likely hate the Eldians anyway. I'm definitely not that self-sacrificing person. I would choose my people, not another nations. Even the Flock. Especially in wartime.

Vlad Lena

The girls’ faces at 41:10 were priceless!

Vlad Lena

I can't believe it's almost over again 😭

Zai Yuka

It's interesting to see these different groups of people come together to try and stop the rumbling. I felt so bad for Conny, Armin, Mikasa, and Jean because they had to cut down their friends. Especially Conny having to kill two guys he was once close with. His scream at the end really says it all. This is just not a good situation. Neither side had a good solution and there isn't a way to stop the rumbling without killing the Yeagerist's. I'm sad the show is ending soon. I hope the girls give some other anime a try and I'd love to see them react to more.

Jenny D

They probably just go off topic or start yapping nonsense so they stop it 😂😂😂

Paul Durbin

I remember completely forgetting about this show after watching the first season on Netflix when it came out. Then I saw it on Hulu like 4 years ago and told my gf at the time, "I remember this show being pretty awesome, wanna give it a shot?" After getting her to fall in love with fmab (her first anime) glad I came back for sure lol

Paul Durbin

Agreed - after the rumbling it just gets worse- terrible ending

Thelcia

Yes! She gets a lot of grief for how much of an eren simp she can come off as sometimes but when he’s out of line and hurting people she’s not afraid to stand up to him. (I’m thinking about 1x2 where she punched him for being rude to Armin and made him eat some bread lol)

hman70

You'll never catch me cheering for Annie lmao, I'm sorry. I don't even want to get too deep into into it, but whoever is manufacturing her 'get out of jail free' cards needs to pass me one, god damn! Annie integrating into the group so easily is one of my only negative marks on the show. Feel like we got a cutesy pie eating scene in place of some very uncomfortable conversations that needed to be had.

Ante

Lmao, I forgot how they did Floch like that at 35:27 😂. I think the Blu-ray corrects that lol. If you can't see what I'm talking about, pause as he's turning his head.

TheSauceGuy

Magath, while covering Yelena's mouth so she can't speak: "TELL US WHERE EREN JAEGER IS HEADED!"

TheSauceGuy

I'd like more characters like Floch in media, and by that, I mean minor characters that can develop and have a significant impact on the story, or just take on a more important role. I think Arcane would be a good example of a show that has several of these sorts of characters.

TheSauceGuy

The line that the world would just be shrinking reminded me of a comment the geks made during their first watch when talking about war and one of them said as long as there is 2 or more people on the planet there will always be conflict.

Melly

It's nice to see Mikasa being determined to stop Eren from killing more people.

TheSauceGuy

I can't wait until the final upload; I imagine there will be a lot of questions for the girls' perspectives on certain things that they might not have talked about in the reactions.

TheSauceGuy

Great post discussion. Happy to hear yall touch on these topics

Acebes

He's so great, appreciate him more and more each rewatch

jared

Not Carter talking about having to wait 8 months lol. If only he experienced the 4-year wait some of us had to, haha.

TheSauceGuy

The cinematography there is unreal; cutting to Gabi Falco and Reiner during that exchange! They look so young and broken 😭 I see Reiner there as a little boy; the juxtaposition of high minded intellectual debate with the lived experience and trauma of those present right as that's happening

jared

I don't think Isayama was trying to make global genocide "start to feel justifiable" lol. He tries to explain what causes it to happen within the story, but he makes it fairly clear through character dialogue and later imagery that it cannot be justified. When Hange says, "genocide is wrong," there is no need for further discussion.

TheSauceGuy

Floch got a permabuff lmao; what surviving Erwin's speech does to a man. Edit: Welp, that's next episode lmao, whoops. I blame Carter for uploading two instead of three.

TheSauceGuy

Damn, that really makes this situation even more sad.

Matt Haloostock

Truly incredible!!!

jared

For real 😭

jared

For real! I'm appreciating him and his development and processing of things more and more this time around!

jared

Seriously the post rumbling episodes are **filled with all these incredible character moments and interactions! Leading up to the rumbling it's like everything's choked by the tension of what's to come, the conflict of everyone pursuing their agendas and hiding them; mystery and tension; and bringing us up to speed on what happened during the time skip; now there's finally a chance for things to breathe and for characters to talk and to process; even though of course there's still tension and the threat of coming conflict with Eren; and with the Jaegerists of course here

jared

Somehow I never thought about the fact that he physically couldn't talk at that point wow

jared

Loved the end discussion about how there really is no right side. Carter nailed it—AOT is a masterclass in moral ambiguity. It forces you to sit with the uncomfortable truths of war by presenting every side with such nuance that even something as extreme as global genocide starts to feel justifiable to some viewers within the context of the story. The show really encapsulates the sad truths of humanity and the never-ending cycle of violence so well

Tivy

Floch the GOAT

Annie doing quite a comedy during her encounter with Mikasa 😂

Leo

Here comes the cringevengers

Leo

I'm stealing this comment.

Gestrid

The last time we saw Daz in a semi-major role was in a flashback with Historia (who was still going by Christa) and Ymir on top of the snowy mountain. Historia was trying to die a hero by saving Daz, who had started to succumb to hypothermia. Daz is also the person who threatened to desert during Pyxis' speech during the Battle for Trost arc. The last time we saw Samuel, the Colossal Titan had just appeared and caused Samuel, Eren, and others to fall off the wall as they were cleaning the cannons. Samuel was dazed and unable to use his ODM gear, so Sasha ran down the wall and shot her ODM gear into his leg, saving him. In short, Conny just killed the person that Sasha saved.

Gestrid

Exactly. Very tough to watch. Nothing felt cool about it to me, just sad

Sam M

I know it's probably the right side to be on, but I do NOT like any part of Reiner and Annie killing the scouts/jaegerists. Their transformation is meant to look cool and dunking on Floch and the scouts, I'm still not ready to get the pom pom's out for the Marley crew. Episode 4x26 is brutal

Jake M

The ironic pain that in the moment Armin would have liked to use words, his words, to solve an issue peacefully, his face is shot through and he physically cannot talk

Tom Murray

You literally look it up in attack on titan wiki and it was 1200 years ago that empire eldia terrorized them what are you on about 🤦‍♂️

Pablo Mogollon

Excited to get to the end of this video to hear everyone’s thoughts. The comments are telling me y’all cooked in the post-discussion as per usual lolll

Tivy

It makes my thumbs sore how many times I have to make this comment, but Eldia wasn’t dominating and terrorizing Marley a thousand years ago, *It was less than a hundred* Please notice the fact that 100 and 1000 are different numbers and you would expect a nation or population to heal from immeasurable generational trauma differently depending on if it’s been 100 or 1000 years since the trauma🫡

hman70

Great discussion from both the boys and the girls as always. Giga cooking 🔥🔥🔥

Charybdis

They said they're posting it tmrw instead

Itzel

The thing is it's like wiping out an entire school and students because the teachers agreed to attack. We all know how wars are, it's rarely what the people want, it's always those at the top making those decisions and sacrificing their people who have no say in the matter for it. 10 billion people didn't declare war, a group of people in a plaza did. Eren could just wipe out the militaries of all the nations if it really came down to it.

FTB

Sean Carroll

Magath’s look of utter shame as he looked at Gabi and reflected on the argument by the campfire the night before, is one of the most important moments in season 4 to me. It really drives in the ‘keeping the kids out of the forest’ analogy/lesson and demonstrates again, the importance of understanding the way the cycle of violence ruins the future path of the younger generation - how it shapes them, misguides them, and turns them into victims set up for failure. The night before Magath saw two children putting the feud aside to humbly bow their heads down and ask the enemy for help, all for the sake of the greater good, while he, a grown man, was picking a petty fight with Jean over history none of them were even there to see just minutes before. He felt downright ashamed for not doing what he as an adult should have done which, in Sasha's father's words, is to “lead the children out of the forest”, not provoke more conflict that only drags them further into it. After all, a vortex is the result of something that can’t stop cycling around. Isn’t the definition of a cyclone, a vortex of wind? So it should be no surprise that violence, when perpetually passed around and repeated, will suck even innocent bystanders into the thick of it. This was also represented very well by the brawl by the campfire. Because of the fruitless blame game Magath started, Jean raised fists against Reiner and in his blind rage, unintentionally struck Gabi as a result. Once again, because of one man's immaturity and inability to set aside his prejudice and sense of grudge, a child becomes collateral damage to the violence between adults and Magath had a moment of clarity when he realized that. It's by no accident or coincidence that that scene took place right in the middle of the deep forest. ***Some other notes: This also ties in with some of the other major philosophical ideas presented in the story. As Armin has emphasized over and over again “Those who can’t sacrifice anything, can’t change anything” and Magath’s epiphany is realizing that a sacrifice was needed for everyone to truly start changing their preconceived notions of one another and to begin the mending of the long standing rift. He saw that he as an adult, had things he could afford to give up in an effort toward initiating that change, the first being his pride, and his care and love for Gabi and Falco is what gave him the resolve to do it.

DepressedSoggyWaffle

Fr lol

Slizzle

The main question it comes down to is; is there a point where it's wrong to defend yourself if a large enough group of people agree to attack you? What's the number? I see no issue with defending yourself no matter how many people declare war on you, whether it's 1, 10, or 10 billion. What does it matter? If you're innocent, there is no honor in sacrificing your loved ones to appease a large bloodthirsty mob

Sam M

He's throwing hands with a cast that has the highest plot armor in anime and doesn't back down, must be tough.

ssj4rit

lol 😂 the way Carter and Cannon will wonder what the girls think and then proceed to not let them speak as they keep saying what they thought. I’ve also randomly been hearing them say like, like, like, like, like. Idk why I’ve noticed it so much recently.

LOVE Magath

H

Traitor might be my single favorite episode for reactions in the series. Seeing our beloved characters like Connie and Armin being fully put in the shoes of Bert and Reiner from season 1/2. Guys who at one point we might have hated, who themselves believed they were the unlucky few who had to get blood on their hands in order to save the world.

hman70

Like Brig said, the coin will just keep flipping, civil wars happen, people have different opinions, if conversation doesn't work, it will be whoever has the power to make it happen, Zeke wanted to remove Eldians from experiencing the guaranteed result of being on any side of the coin while he had the chance. Eren believed oppression on Eldians wont exist if everyone else was removed on this planet and he has the chance to do so I dont blame him. The hardest of choices requires the stronger of wills.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

I respectfully disagree. I think his character arc is fantastic from start to finish and his development is full-fledged.

Dani G

I don't think it's that unpopular

Sasha

Connie having to kill Daz and Samuel always breaks my heart. Seeing the scouts on opposite sides and having to kill each other after all they’ve been through together is just so gutting. Especially since one of the scouts Connie killed was the same one Sasha saved all those years ago. Poor Connie really goes through so much extra pain this season.

Dani G

Best cooked outro

Trevor

Power of bias, murder is murder but believing theres some greater payoff for humanity or for them to accomplish their goals makes it "worth" it.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Kiyomi’s speech about how domestic war is inevitable, that the world will merely shrink to tighten the scope for conflict, is so powerful. The Yeagerists think they are changing their world for the better by removing all their enemies, but all they’re doing is narrowing the forest. I think this episode also really highlights the fundamental difference in ideologies between the Yeagerists and Eren. Eren is for freedom from oppression for Eldians whereas Floch is for Eldian supremacy.

Dani G

Floch is top 10 character for me

Goatchis

Lets get it.

DontFailArtSchoolEren

No the power of the founder can biolocially alter eldians and also memory wipe eldians so they can be in endless paradise forever

DontFailArtSchoolEren

Jean is underdeveloped in a way bro I said it, he had good development in s1 then it's like it only resumes at the very end of the series when it's already too busy and too late. Like why's bro having these doubts still he's already so far in, he still a good character tho

Jeremy

Magath turned out to be such a great character. I remember on my first watch I flipped from hating to loving him so fast.

Dani G

Jean is so damn great in the back half of this season. Gabi and Falco too. Every episode post-Rumbling is 🔥

Dani G

I love the appreciation for Cersei, lmao. My deranged queen.

Dani G

I remember how frustrated I got when I watched the boys' reactions to episodes 26-27, and I can already feel it'll be the same with the girls 😭 Like, I totally get rooting for the main characters and not really caring about people you barely know. But seeing people cheer when Mikasa, Connie, Jean, etc. are killing the Yeagerists honestly makes me soooo sad. Yeah the animation is amazing and characters look incredible, but this is a show that repeatedly shows how painful it is for these characters to kill others, even total strangers, let alone their own friends and former comrades. It reminds me of when I tried to watch Jackthebus’s reaction to “I have no enemies” and he was really excited, cheered and screamed during that moment. That’s when I closed the video and decided I’d only watch his one piece reactions from now on. Sorry if I sound overly dramatic, I really do love your channel and I believe no one have a right to dictate how you should feel during certain scenes. It's just I feel really bad when I see people being happy while seeing murders, especially in the show like AOT. I didn't want to say anything but I just saw a comment where someone said they were scared to express their opinion and chose to stay silent, and it somehow gave me the courage to speak up lol

Dasha

The post discussions cook so hard

Shroomy

As a person who has seen war, my opinion on the rumbling is that it doesn’t make sense if anyone survives. If the goal is to end all war and suffering, then leaving even a part of the world alive (especially those already having a conflict like jaegerists and "save the world" group) means the cycle will just start again. So I would actually understand Eren if his plan was to destroy the entire world, but since he wants to leave islanders alive, the idea falls apart. They’re just going to reproduce, rebuild, and start more wars, so the big idea behind the rumbling will never really be achieved. Well, we know it's not his real goal, but I'm talking about "rumbling" idea as we know it at the current point in the show

Dasha

Floch is one of the few characters that didn't fall for one of Armin's manipulative/gaslighting plan. I remember when I first watched and was like "Damn Floch's smart, not even Armin got through to him, that's crazy😂"

Nanami's Wife

I agree. I like Annie but her character isn't as fleshed out or nuanced as everyone else around her.

Charybdis

Tony Garcia

Annie pissed me off a lot in these episodes, I dislike her much more than Floch or Gabi (tbh I don’t even dislike Floch and Gabi at all at this point cause their actions are justified). Annie doesn’t have a solid perspective or justified motivation. I’ve never seen any real remorse in her actions or words either. If she at least flew out with the others to save her dad (the one goal she supposedly cared about?) her character would make more sense

Dasha

Unpopular opinion I always rooted against the world saving team

Dang people really have me liking and paying attention to Connie this time around!

GreetswithJudgement

It’s okay! Even if it’s critical it still should be welcomed IMO! I can only speak for myself but I like debate and disagreement that leads to discussion!

GreetswithJudgement

Bruh wtf I thought I was gonna get my Chad Floch scene

Anyone with me? Sometimes I wanna give my opinion on certain debate-inducing takes, but I'm so bad at confrontation and afraid of offending that I think I'll just stick to writing only positive comments and ignore the stuff I disagree with. At least it doesn't bring me any stress😭 let's be cowards together fr

Pudding

Floch & Gabi are such important characters in the series especially when regarding about the politics you generally have ppl on Twitter debating who’s right & wrong such efficient writing.

TTB

Ohhh??😭😭 wait, that's true, I didn't even think about it that way. Connie actually took on the same role as Bertholdt did when Connie and Jean were confronting him back in season 2. Now he's the one being confronted for betraying a comrade, for the 'greater good'. I fear you cooked.

Thanks GeksDeluxe! That ending makes me so sad. Can't imagine what it's like having to kill my friends to save the world.

The campfire scene has some of the best written character drama in any episode of tv ever. The amount of emotional baggage every single character brought to the table, and the slow unraveling of everyone's motivations and arcs colliding in one single conversation. And all perfectly building to the reveal that Reiner killed Marco, and the catharsis of Jean accepting it happened and moving on. Just brilliant.

Connor O'Hara

Makes Hange sound so badass lol, but she really is tho

Pudding

the music that plays when Connie and Armin get called traitors, is the same as the music that played when they were chasing down Reiner and Bertholt in season 2. Both betrayed each other even though their friendship was real, they just never had a choice. Absolute cinema

Is it just me that doesn't like Annie as much? Her titan and cool and everything, but she doesn't feel as much guilty for her actions compared to Reiner. That's why I love Reiner, his development was so great. For someone that was living peacefully in a crystal for 4 years, she sure has a lot to say, especially to Mikasa. Brig's right, Mikasa would cooked Annie in a fight, no question😂. Everyone except for Levi was too fast to forgive her. I laughed so hard when Levi be giving her the side eye, he ain't forgetting what happened to Petra. I stand by Levi always

Nanami's Wife

It's so sad because Connie spent the whole show feeling betrayed by multiple people. Him and Sasha were always the light-hearted part of the show so they always had a more black and white understanding of the world. That's why Connie snapped in the last batch. Now Connie has to "betray" his friend and echo Bertholdt words. Poor Connie

Great couple episodes. I especially like the Jean/Reiner "fight" because Jean was actually going to let it go, but understandably he gets pissed off at Reiner when it starts appearing like he's playing the victim and throwing a pity party. That whole episode is pretty important in establishing that these people have all done terrible things, and there's no point powerscaling their crimes and arguing over who "should be punished". Can't believe I have to say all that, but AOT fandom is made up of a bunch of children (cough Titanfolk and Annie hate cough). Traitor's first half also has a couple underrated tidbits I feel are worth mentioning. I think on rewatch you notice that Magath has shown signs of being a little more pro-Eldian and softer compared to other Marleyan officers throughout his screentime, despite him still being obviously stuck in his propaganda and how he's learnt to view Eldians as monsters and devils. I think it makes his growth here more organic than maybe it would appear on a first watch. Reiner's realization here "is that what he meant" when Eren said "we are the same" is also really cool, more so on a personal level for Reiner's understanding of Eren. It facilitates his realization later down the line on the plane where he assumes Eren, like him, is incredibly depressed and borderline suicidal over the weight of his actions, which will be important setup/foreshadowing for Eren's desire to be stopped and killed for the sins he's committed.

Marcos Vera

Thanks for the early upload!

Zack

Jean vs Magath isn’t about who’s more justified, it’s about severing the hatred. That’s why the camera cuts to Reiner, Gabi and Falco who’ve severed their hate for the enemy. It’s ironic when Magath says “it’s like I’m talking to children”, because the children know better than the adults here.
