I feel like every One Piece fan gets emotional at those symbolic Merry tears cause right as Jack was tearing up I was too, the waterworks nearly started flowing. Another thing that always hits me is seeing Nami emotional like she's usually the one holding the crew together y'know putting the brakes on when they're fighting but when she just can't do anything but cry... AAH it hits man, especially because being so weak she can heavily empathize with Usopp and his inner conflicts about being weaker than everyone else and you always see Nami and Usopp together in little one off gags that seem meaningless at the time but those one off gags genuinely do mean stuff like characters really are deepening their bonds when they make jokes and laugh together so Usopp and Nami are genuinely really good friends. I absolutely love this though, the Geks finally getting a taste of some actual loss outside of backstories and realizing One Piece can and will indeed go to those places, you love to see it, it's ironic though, you's always complain about nobody dying in One Piece but the biggest sense of loss wasn't even from a death. I love what Carter was saying about Usopp unexpectedly being one of the most painful members to possibly leave the crew because like I feel like you could imagine a reason for the others wanting to leave but prior to this Usopp seems nothing but happy like he has every reason to stay with the Strawhats forever so it hurts all the more when you see what a good reason he has for wanting to leave and even if you don't like him you can't help but sympathize with him.

I wouldn't class anyone in the crew as Luffy's best friend, because I think they all are. He has different vibes with all of them, that's true, but I'm thinking about what Oda said in one of the SBS sections of the manga: it's Usopp who drags Luffy into goofing off rather than the other way around. Agreed about Luffy's reaction to Iceberg, that it made Luffy think more realistically about the situation. The image of Luffy standing far off from the others (on top of the ruins of Franky House) in his crew at the moment of decision and the moment of silent contemplation emphasizes his position as captain too.

I mean, if you’d one paced it you would only have missed the disruptive midcards (which were kind of badly placed here), the recaps, and the double flashbacks. It’s not as if they ever cut actual canon content. But the long outro discussion was so good, how you’re thinking about all that’s going on. Definitely huge props to Jack for keeping a straight face up until now (and just imagine what he’s still keeping back, lol). There are also some serious problems with the translation here. The use of ”nakama” is specifically about being part of the CREW, and translating it as ”friends” or ”gang” creates the wrong impression. And messes up the theme. Usopp is saying he doesn’t want Chopper’s help because he’s not one of them any more, it’s not about being ”friends” or not. It’s that they no longer belong together. And I don’t think this was totally unexpected, if you look back at Long Ring Long Land. Yeah, I mean it: that arc is doing three very important things, which is highlighting the loss of crew members, the role of the captain (and Usopp has never really accepted Luffy as captain, not seriously), and starting to look at Usopp’s insecurity. The major part of it was his total inability to act when facing Aokiji, but I also think that it’s no coincidence that Usopp took part in the only game they lost. It’s just like Carter says: it’s surprising and shocking, but looking back you can see why it happened, what lead up to it. Also, take a real good look at Zoro in these episodes. And Zoro’s and Luffy’s interactions. Zoro knows exactly what Luffy is thinking and why, and IMO this is the arc where his position as Luffy’s main support/right hand man/inofficial second in command becomes more explicit. Like when he validates Luffy’s choices at the end of the duel, and also warns him about wavering. Usopp, meanwhile, lacks trust in Luffy as his captain. I think that the moment where Luffy stops Nami from intervening and says that changing ships is his decision, that this is what’s going to happen, Luffy sees it too, and asserts his position. McKay really hits the nail on the head: Luffy expects to be obeyed when he makes decisions as a captain. He’ll isten to the crew, and he doesn’t want them to treat him with any sort of reverence, but he IS the captain.

I know that when One Pace has been mentioned before by the Geks, it’s led to a bunch of debates in the comments. That’s not my goal here. I just want to point something out based on what Cannon said after the reaction to episode 236. He said he was glad they didn’t use One Pace for this episode — I totally get the concern behind that but the thing is, the way Toei handled this episode was genuinely strong. It’s one of those times where the anime stuck really close to the manga. The direction, the emotion, the pacing — everything just hit. And that’s why One Pace didn’t really need to change anything here. One Pace never cuts content from the manga itself. And since this particular episode followed the manga so closely, there wasn’t really anything to cut. I’m not saying the One Pace episode is 100% exactly the same — I just mean the difference is barely noticeable, probably less than 1%. So you guys don’t need to feel worried about future top-tier arcs being cut down either, because when the original anime follows the manga well and gets the pacing right, One Pace doesn’t really need to touch it. So it’s basically the same as the original in this episode.

Exactly. My biggest gripe is when people whine when someone doesn't react the way they want them to. It's all because they don't see the bigger picture, and even with that ignored, some people just have differing opinions. Isn't that more entertaining anyways? Some things are more exciting when it's raw and unfiltered. That's the point of paying to watch this. You are left wondering how somebody will react to a certain scene. They may even notice things you didn't on first glance.

This hurts way more with Usopp because he is Luffy’s best friend. Throughout the show you can always see them fooling around and having a great time. He match Luffy’s goofy vibe the best, thats why it’s so tough for Luffy. Also I think Luffy made the decision because of how Iceberg question his responsibility as a captain with this quote “ I can’t believe you are the captain, are you going to be satisfied until your ship and your crew mates sink into the ocean?” This made Luffy reconsider and why Luffy had to make the hard decision and act like captain and consider the whole situation for the whole crew instead of just for Usopp. In the beginning when Luffy first heard Merry could no longer be fixed, he said the same thing Usopp said during their fight not giving up on Merry until the very end. He was thinking more for his friends but when he made the decision he was thinking more like a captain.

I have to say I feel like Ussop hasn't been as connected to the Merry as I remember him being the first time I watched One Piece. Maybe its because they used one pace for parts of it, but I feel like the deep connection that Ussop has with the merry has been lost a bit, especially in Skypia with the scene with the "mystery person" who fixed up the ship, I remember that scene being made to feel more important than it felt this time around. And I feel like one pace may have cut out some of those moments of the in-between island parts where they were just on the ship when Ussop was likely fixing the Merry in the background. But maybe my memory has just faded since it has been a few years since I watched this part of the show.

I love how Oda wrote this whole conflict like we have seen Ussop time and time again repair Merry and we know he’s the weakest strawhat so for Luffy to say he’s abandoning the ship, Ussops feeling like well if Merrys gone because merry can’t sail anymore then what’s going to happen to him who’s one of the weakest members who can’t even guard some money without getting beaten up and getting saved all the time by others. He feels like he’s gonna be next to be abandoned after Merry. I feel so bad for him because it’s so realistic, imagine being surrounded by a crew so highly capable in their own ways and feeling like you’re not enough to be apart of this group, he felt like this for so long and I guess this thing with Merry was the final straw. Also Luffy is one the most emotionally intelligent characters for me. We don’t really notice it cuz he’s so goofy but we’ve already seen him show his emotional intelligence multiple times. Here, and 2 other examples I can think of are during Arlong park, he waited till Nami herself asked him to save her because he knew she wouldn’t accept his help otherwise and she has to be the one to ask him herself then another time when he punched Vivi cuz Vivi was only putting her life on the line and wasn’t relying on the crew and he noticed that. He also has more moments in the future but yea he’s such a great character, I love him so much.

Thank you guys for this early drop, your hard work is really appreciated. Rewatching these eps with y'all I actually cried again and this is coming from someone who was not a fan of usopp from the beginning which is why I Always understood u guys dislike for him in the beginning. The more I watched the show he obviously grew on me and I really love him now and understand him a lot more and these were the eps that set the tone for that. I truly love this arc so much like id go as far as to say I have a weird emotional attachment to it due to the many different emotions it awakens within me, these eps are great but you guys haven't even witnessed why I am so attached and obsessed with this arc yet, its all so real, so raw, not only did I relate to the characters on a very realistic level but pains a picture of the bigger issue that keeps boiling in the surface of the story (and still is in the story might I add). I love this arc so much bc it's really what OP is about, if I were to ever recommend only one arc to someone who did not like OP it would be this arc. I cannot wait to witness some of my favorite eps in this arc with you guys bc I love your analysis and understanding of stories and I think you will really really ENJOY the storytelling in this arc.

Rewatching this again. The gasp that came out Carter when luffy almost said that ussop should leave the crew….This is what put One piece in a league of its own, yes it can be goofy sometimes, but the way Oda can create moments like this, like literally, two brothers-best friends having a discussion that starts to escalate so quickly that suddenly things get out of control. That’s life itself. Seeing my captain crying gets me everytime 😭. Thanks Geks for appreciate this moment exaxtly for what it was, this is the peak that we were waiting for you to see, and trust us, there’s plenty more to come. jack tearing up was so real, i could never not cry watching these eps, this is one of the best conflicts in the show. It hurts like fkin hell seeing usopp lie to himself all the time cause he can’t confront reality, him feeling like he’s never strong enough to protect his loved ones breaks my heart. and luffy realizing he failed as a captain… that is peak devastation for me, i literally can’t blame a 17 year old for being immature, but when zoro hits us with that bomb at the end of 236, I realized how much growing he has to do. the writing here makes you realize how invested you actually are in these characters, all the personalities of the straw hats are so rich and grounded to the way they're constructed, sanji is a great example of that and i love that you guys gave him his flowers for it i love how invested you guys were in these, this is probably my favorite discussion from op so far! i'm so excited for what's coming, i would love to know your rankings of the straw hats after this!! or at least your top 3

The argument and fight between Luffy and Usopp is one of the best written dialogues in any form of media ever. It's real and rough and the contestants make mistakes just like real people would and react to the others words realistically. It feels like a real fight between real friends and we've had such a long time with both of them that we get their character and the meaning behind their arguments. It's really a masterpiece of long term character writing, for me at least.

I already loved Luffy, but this is when he became my favorite MC of all mangas and animes I’d ever read or watched, and when I loved Zoro even more as his number 2. I love the other Straw Hats of course, but Zoro’s unwavering loyalty is just something I completely vibe with. My feelings for Usopp have always been mild though, so the new layer to his character was welcomed for sure. And I too was so confused about where the story would go from that point, but it just gets better. This arc isn’t in my top 10 for nothing. (The saga is in my top 5 though).

WE ALL CRYING 💔😭 These two episodes never fail to make me cry. Especially when Luffy voiced cracked when telling Zoro "This is really tough" and then it shows Luffy crying. Kid you not, that scene of Luffy holding his hat down and crying ALWAYS MAKES ME SOB 😭😭😭 Luffy knew he had to step up and be a captain. Zoro's response to him was so good too and emotional to hear. I love Zoro's loyalty to Luffy, a true vice captain. I also love how Sanji represents the heart while Zoro represents the mind in this arc. They're both trying to keep the crew together and steady. The crew is at their lowest point: Usopp leaving, the Merry can’t be fixed, and Robin's missing. Usopp's character development is so good. Usopp is in pain, he’s humiliated, and he’s been struggling with his sense of self-worth his whole life. Human moments like these are what make One Piece such an incredible story. Usopp sees the Merry as a reflection of himself. If Luffy is willing to abandon the ship, then in Usopp's eyes, he could abandon him as well. He's not as strong as everyone, so he's afraid Luffy will simply choose to leave him behind just like he is doing to the ship. This is due to Usopp's abandonment issues. His dad left him as a kid and his mom shortly died after. He didn't have anyone else but himself growing up and his lies help filled that void. The three little kids and Kaya both relied on Usopp, but Usopp never had someone that he relied on. It breaks my heart having to see Luffy and him fight. Usopp is Luffy's best friend, there's nothing worse than a friendship breakup💔 I love how we're always seeing how emotionally involved our cast is. It makes episodes like these hit some much harder. God, I love this show man

Yep, this is truly the moment for me when One Piece went from really good to great. I could write a whole essay from this fight alone. The drastic shift in tone was what surprised me most when I watched it the first time. One Piece already had plenty of emotional and serious moments but this fight feels so real and visceral and I didn't see it coming at all. I didn't know this show had the capability for having such a serious tone shift and it left me absolutely speechless. There are almost no jokes in these episodes because the focus is completely on this conflict, which is so well written. You can completely understand both sides even if you don't agree with Ussop or Luffy. Ussop obviously loves the ship and doesn't want to leave her behind but that is not the heart of the issue. The main root of this conflict is Ussop feeling insecure and undeserving of being a part of the crew. He is afraid they will leave him behind just like the Merry if he can't keep up with them anymore. Not understanding that the strawhats want him there because they love him and he is a part of their family regardless of his capabilities. So he decides to self sabotage and leave them before they can leave him. Luffy on the other hand feels he has to step up and be the captain, by making the hard decisons. He doesn't understand Ussop's turmoil and feels disrespected as a captain. But he still has a really hard time with Ussop leaving because in the end he still was one of Luffy's best friends. That's why this episode hurts so much, it feels like a family breaking apart. I also love Zoro's line at the end: "If you waver, who can we trust." it encapsulates one of the major themes in this arc: The burden of a captain. Sorry for the long ramble guys, I just love this moment so much.

A better translation for Luffy's line at 37:35 is "This is heavy." He's not just saying it's tough, he's feeling the burden of a captain for the first time, because he was always just their friend. He's literally almost died before fighting against powerful villains yet this was still the most painful fight he had to go through. I hate seeing Luffy cry

This feels like the first time in the story so far where luffy actually had to act as a captain normally it just seems like the crew is just going along with his whims and things end up working out but these episodes he has had to make very difficult and possibly permanent decisions and I love how zoro out of everyone seems to respect the role of captain and luffy's decisions

What made Luffy vs. Usopp even better was that Luffy was so angry he blew up Franky’s house because they beat up Usopp and yet, Usopp kept saying he didn’t care about him or Merry. I said a while back, one of my fave eps of the show was in this arc. This is it. The dialogue and scene setting in 235-236 made me go from hanging on with One Piece to actually having faith that I would watch till the end. I can tolerate any flavor of mid if this is the type of payoff I can expect. Zoro consoling Luffy is one of my favorite scenes across any anime point blank period.

Commenting at 32:43. This is not needed but hearing Oda did not cook and this feels random and almost like filler made me feel defensive and yappy. Merry and Usopp both joined in Syrup Village. Same adventures. Took equivalent amount of damage over time. But like Zoro said, humans grow above their pain but with ships it just accumulates. (Zoro being specifically the guy who grows through pain constantly). Luffy agrees and says ships are different than humans but Usopp says they're the same. Usopp sees Merry as his counterpart. If they were so ready to get rid of Merry here, what of him? His crashout was not just about Merry. He admits to being not enough just like how the Merry isnt enough. Next episode? Usopp holds his own against Luffy. The man who has taken down a god is being held back by this cowardly goof - who let'a not forget just got gangbanged - who didn't think he was strong enough to stay with the future pirate king. If that's not Oda cooking then I'm in the wrong kitchen

Geks, I'm so happy you guys are up to this, I've been waiting for these episodes since you started. Because this is the moment One Piece became my favourite show seemingly out of no where. It was like all of sudden, the show confronted me through a layer of depth I couldn't even see before, to confront how much I had actually become attached to these characters without knowing it. And I reacted so similarly to you guys, I couldn't believe it. I genuinely couldn't believe that this could ever happen in this show I had become so accustomed to. These episodes actually add a layer of complexity to the show that never drops away. It's such a deeply resonating and guttural feeling of uncomfortableness these eps give that it's so so surprising. The conflict, the tensions, the duel, Ussop leaving, Robin being missing, Nami's remark about the crew falling apart. It really feels like it. It's like this whole time you were taking something for granted that just got stripped away, and it's only now you realise how meaningful that peace from before really was. And these episodes are genuinely written beautifully. Oda drops a masterclass in dialogue and writing, where the conversation flows and sticks in the air, making you sit with the unnerving tension of it and really feel the weight. I can tell you guys felt it as well. How surprisingly uncomfortable it is, that kind of fidgety, real world feeling of wanting to reject what you're seeing. I remember being so surprised how actually uncomfortable the argument seen made me feel, it really felt like when you're watching a destructive, high tension argument between people you care about in real life. What I especially like is that even in this ever so deep Ussopp-Luffy conflict that's taking place, it doesn't feel like anyone else takes a back seat. All the crew members are still so vividly present and authentic, all displaying such a complex range of emotions and reactions to the situation that feel so real to their characters. And I could talk about the Ussop and Merry dyanmic here for days because it's so impactful and well established. This conflict touches a lot on the male ego in such a poetic way, the idea that our worth is established largely by what what we can provide to others. And Ussop has seen first hand time and time again, how helpless he is to do things for the crew. Everyone has their role, the cook, the navigator, the doctor, the swordsmen who can fight, the captain, but Ussop sees his contribution as the ship. We've seen him countless times praising it, criticizing people who break it, caring for it, trying to repair it. It's where Ussop feels like he can contribute to the crew. So when that's threatened, it's like his identity on the crew is being threatened. In that way he projects his own insecurities onto the idea of the Merry getting thrown away. It's a slap in the face to Ussop, and feels like a direct confirmation they don't need him. And this whole situation is heartbreaking but understanding. We see Luffy grimace as Ussopp tells him "Sorry to cause you trouble to the end" and like Luffy, we instinctively want to tell him he's wrong. To call out and rebuke that claim. Because we know he's so much more to the crew than just a burden, but we also get it because we ourselves have seen how weak he's been. I always love reactors watching this because it's so conflicting. We know he matters to the crew and almost can't believe how blinsighted in his own failures he's become, but it's also kind of true. Think of all the times you Geks, have criticized how incredibly weak he's been. We've seen it. This is the turning point where One Piece goes from a pretty good show to a phenomenal show, and there's so much more peak to come

Also to awnser Canon's question yes Oda did start with the ending in mind. Oda has said he already drew the final chapter a few times and has said its like peeling the layers for most of the series. You will notice this more as you go that the narrative is interconnected in very complex way. He also has this technique of planting seeds of plot points or characters and then decides later on how to weave them based on how future circumstances unravel and affect each other. He keeps all parts of the story moving at the same time which is very difficult to do. One Piece's world building and character development is, no joke, unmatched

I think it makes the whole crew dynamic a bit more complex. Like the Geks were saying you don’t really think about it when seeing the crew interact, but the crew does respect Luffy as their captain. Heck I’m pretty sure even Usopp does, it’s just his own inferiority complex and all these events had gotten him to a point he’s emotionally struggling with. Like I think we kind of forget at times that Luffy quite literally saved every single one of his crew from either death or a bad life situation. As much as they are friends, they do hold respect for him and how he does things, which was emphasised quite a lot during the East Blue arc but we see pretty much throughout the show. No matter how much they quarrel, they’ll still go along with Luffy’s decision if he’s shown he really means it.

Episodes 235–236 hit like ice to the chest. The fight between Luffy and Usopp isn’t just painful. It’s real. Raw emotion—pride, frustration, love, and heartbreak colliding all at once. They say what they feel in that moment, even if it’s not what they want to be true. That’s what makes it so hard to watch. You can see how much they still care, even as the words cut deeper and deeper. And it’s strange, Aokiji had just been introduced not long before. One of those characters who stays still while everything else moves. Cold, calm, unreadable. And during this fight, he lingered in the back of my mind. Because in a way, we’re all Aokiji watching this. Silent. Still. Just standing there as everything we care about starts to crack. Not because we don’t care, but because we can’t stop it. That helplessness, that weight… it freezes you. This isn’t just a turning point for the Straw Hats. It’s one of those moments where One Piece stops being just adventure and becomes real. It’s about friendship, loss, and what it costs to move forward. And somehow, even though I knew it was coming, it still hit me like it was the first time. it made me really emotional 😓

From my knowledge of what Oda’s said about his writing process, the one thing he actually planned was what the One Piece is and he writes around that. Things like Vivi being a princess, the existence of the Shichibukai etc, all came to him as he was writing without prior planning,,,he’s said that although he’ll normally have an rough draft of how he wants an arc to go, he gets so many ideas as he’s writing which keeps making the story even longer and longer 😭 like I wonder what the initial draft of Alabasta was if Vivi wasn’t meant to be a princess? All in all, who knows if he planned this out in advance or thought of it as the story was unfolding because it felt like the next natural step.

Yayy thank you for the double drop Jack!! I’ll have to admit on a first watch i did not expect all the drama because of how happy-go-lucky this show usually is. Plus seeing Luffy cry absolutely broke my heart so i thought Usopp was a massive rat for choosing a ship over his friends (even though i still love the Merry), so i’m glad you guys understood it better than me lol. But as people explained about Usopp’s insecurities, plus he just got beaten up and had to be saved by the stronger members of the crew, on top of that Luffy talking about replacing the merry in a nonchalant tone didn’t help the situation. Love that Carter mentions appreciating Usopp's self awareness in the intro, because as goofy as he can be, he really is...and the fact that he compares himself to Merry, a wounded and sinking ship that'll take everyone down with her if left alone...pain. We all know that Luffy would never actually mean for Usopp to leave (and bless Sanji for cutting that sentence short) but to know very well where he was going with that, and to have to hear the thoughts that have haunted Usopp's own mind very nearly fall from one of his crew members lips (and his captains, of all people), knowing how he's already been feeling for the longest time - that would be so hard to bear and come back from. The fight was very much about Merry, but also sooo much more than her too. Of course as Usopp couldn't win, and of course he knows that...but at the same time he wants the right to stand on the same plane as his comrades, and prove to himself he can too 😭😭 Mckay is probably right in saying that Usopp could genuinely use a therapist, because in the end no one could beat him up harder than he does himself Merry's tears, and the final shots of Luffy and Usopp crying...💔💔💔

What Carter said in the outro is very true this specific moment turned the whole show into something else for a lot of us. The moment I watched those episodes is the moment I felt in love with the show. Usopp is one of Oda’s favorite characters and the main reason is that he is the most “human” and “realistic” member, he is the character that represents the scared ones, the ones that have dreams but are too frightened by the reality of the world and their own personal trauma to do something. They fought about the Merry but when you think about it again you realize it’s much more than that, Usopp felt useless, he felt like he was a burden for his own friends that he see as his family. Like you said it was super sad (I cried a lot the first time I watched it) but it had to happen for the show to have a deeper meaning but also for the crew to grow in a better way. I’m so glad you guys took it the way you did and didn’t make fun of the situation (I’ve sadly seen a lot of people laugh during those moments) and don’t worry this is just the beginning of this arc the ride is far from being over 😉 !

I love how your initial reaction to hearing the Merry can’t be fixed was exactly like Usopp’s 😂 Anyways there’s so many layers to peel back over his decision to leave. He loves the Merry. Kaya was the one who gave them it so it was a connection to her and his home. In his eyes she’s a beloved crew mate. But there’s also the fact that he saw Luffy’s decision to not fix the Merry as a sign that once someone was no longer helpful, they would be cut from the crew. He put himself in that spot and thought he would be cut loose in time too. Especially since the only unique role Usopp had on the crew was maintaining the Merry. He’s not a strong fighter, he can’t cook, he’s not a doctor, he can’t navigate etc…this was the one thing only he could do and now it’s gone, so what value does he bring to the crew now? He felt like his contributions to the crew were not only in jeopardy moving forward, but also being undermined up to the present. Ultimately, his insecurities drove him to leave :( I think that’s why even though ppl might not necessarily like Usopp, it’s very easy to feel for him in this moment because those are very real emotions most of us have experienced at some point in time (and even thought about Usopp, we just didn’t think he thought this of himself too😭). It’s moments like these where I appreciate how well rounded Oda made each crew member because this wouldn’t hit nearly as hard if we didn’t know them as well as we did. Like why does this feel like my family is breaking up 😭💔💔

I by no means liked the LRLL arc and foxy, but Oda did some foreshadowing in that arc. That whole arc is about the prospect of losing on of our beloved crewmates, and now we're losing Usopp, Robin is missing, it's just a mess. So Foxy is still annoying for sure, but this arc makes me appreciate his character's presence more

Since Usopp has joined he's never looked at Luffy as the captain but as his friend, couple this with his inferiority complex and him tying his own worth and value to the crew to the ship. Hearing Luffy not only saying they're getting a new ship but saying to get off the ship if he disagreed feels like a betrayal of friendship more so than a captain's decision.

This conflict made me appreciate Usopp more, as it added depth to his character. I mean, he’s surrounded by monstrous fighters like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. Nami, Chopper, and Robin are essential to the crew because of their roles as the navigator, doctor, and archaeologist, respectively. In contrast, what key role does Usopp really play? Sure, he’s an amazing sniper, but Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro are already incredible fighters. He tried his best to patch up the ship, but he’s by no means a shipwright. So, from his perspective—surrounded by all these amazing people—I think it was natural for him to develop an inferiority complex. Usopp thinks if they’re willing to abandon the Going Merry like this, what’s to stop them from doing the same to him down the line? Obviously, the crew would likely never do that, but at this point in time, he’s thinking emotionally rather than rationally. Just recently, his incompetence was shoved in his face when the Franky Family casually stole the money from him the crew had earned to fix the Merry. This conflict both with the crew and within himself is one reason a lot of fans love Water 7.
