Anything that displaces a larger volume of water than itself will float, the weight is not the issue! About the devil fruits, they were rare in East Blue, but not in the Grand Line (there was a line about this in the Baratie arc, IIRC). Possibly because people with powers flock to the GL as pirates, possibly for other reasons. The announcer girl in the water lift is a reference to the elevator girls that the department stores in Japan used to employ! Their jobs were to press the button of the floor the customer asked for and announce the floors and what goods were on which floors. Back in the early 2000s when Oda wrote the chapter this episode is based on they were still fairly common. There might still be a few places that employ them, but not many. I think it says a lot that Usopp can be so open with Nami in a way that he can’t with the rest of the crew. While Nami doesn’t have any hangups about being weaker than the others she still understands how it feels, and I think that creates a special understanding between the two of them. Also, I think it’s great that they have this bond, having someone who really gets it amongst a crew of people with monstrous strength. It’s a shame they removed so much of the blood in this scene, though. People dress up in elaborate costumes for the Venice Carnival, which is around the beginning of lent each year. The designs some people come up with are truly impressive, and some a kinda creepy too

Just want to point out that Usopp usually runs away from conflicts and always tries to avoid pain. Yet in epsiode 233 he goes OUT OF HIS WAY to storm into the den of the enemies who beat him up, alone. Then even when he was being trampled all over by them, all he was focused on was Franky who was walking away with the money he was responsible for, the only reason he went to fight. That’s why although he’s annoying I can never hate usopp, he always tries to do the right thing when it matters, even when the odds are against him.

What led to Luffy’s decision of letting go of Merry, at least what I got from all of this; Is that back at the shipyard, along with luffy taking the shipwright’s assessment seriously, Iceberg’s words about being a bad captain by risking your crew on an unstable ship really got to Luffy, but he was still coping, with his loyalty to/love of the Merry still being in forefront of his mind. However soon after when luffy saw one of his crew-mates in a dangerous state and after going through a serious battle just for the sake of a crew-mate, he sobered up and realised he has to prioritise the safety of his crew rather than indulging his sentimental feelings.

Usopp is my favourite Straw Hat after Luffy easily. He’s the most realistic Straw Hat. I’ve come to like Zoro less and less. The badass, emotionless, nonchalant trope gets tiring and boring. I value Usopp’s friendship with Luffy more than I do anything else. Luffy did all this, not because they messed with his crew but because they messed with Luffy’s best friend. Being “epic” and “aura-farming” doesn’t interest me, I’ll leave that to lesser animes. I like that McKay mentioned Usopp has something to prove, nobody else seemed to mention his character.

In terms of ship weight: yes a ship’s weight has a big impact on buoyancy and draft. More weight added can affect the ships ability to float and how deep it sinks in water at rest. Most metals are heavy, so to counteract how much weight you are adding to the frame you’d have to add hella support to the surrounding structure to make sure the tension and weight being added is distributed properly and not all in a concentrated area.

I love how Usopp is one of Jack's favorites in the crew. I think he or it was alluded that he was when they first began watching One Piece.
