TIME LAPSE: Naira
Added 2023-11-08 15:27:20 +0000 UTCThis is one of the first long video recordings I took of my work since I figured out my tablet can handle it much better than I expected! I use Clip Studio's own time lapse option as it's really handy when I'm working on a mobile device (which in my case is Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+), but I had been worried about the file size getting too big for it to handle. I could feel some lag by the end of the process but nothing too bothersome! It has taught me to arrange my layers much better though since I can't keep too much clutter taking up the space. Definitely something I'm guilty of.. 😅
Some notes about the process:
At the start of the video you can see me trying different poses and perspectives. This is something I do with almost everything I draw as I rarely if ever have a clear picture in mind, only the abstract concept and mood I know I want to convey. For a long time I was so self conscious about this part of my creative process but within the past couple of years I've learned to embrace it!
From the beginning I knew I wanted the character's baseball bat to be in the spotlight, but it wasn't the only reason I chose the composition seen in the finished art. The sketches where you can see her standing up were close to the threatening and powerful atmosphere I wanted to radiate from her, but I felt like I could make use of the composition with that goal in mind, too, and that's how I landed with a relaxed sitting position with a slight below perspective. (In many cases I would have used a 3D model to help me figure this out, but for this I felt like some exaggeration would be more beneficial than perfect anatomy in this case.) I tried to further emphasize the 'big boss' impression with the overhead lighting.

In future I want to merge these kind of design notes in the step-by-step posts for a better readability! I didn't think of it when I planned out the first posts, hence the simple text format for now. 😅
