Interlude – Pisces (Revised)
Added 2021-07-20 23:26:52 +0000 UTCIt's the toughest chapter I've revised yet. It's been difficult, even cursed...but it is out. Read the trigger warning. And watch out... (46,000 Words. Yes, you read that right.)

Fantastisk chapter! I was expecting a lot worse by your warnings, but though it was a little bit on the dark side it was no where near as brutal as other chapters that you have done. There was always hope and not enough depth with Cawe to feel devistated by their loss. I still loved it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

2021-08-03 19:54:17 +0000 UTCThe fact that the monster states 'they don't go as deep as actelios' when they are forcing Pisces to do his worst or the fact that an Emir has earthers is all horrifying once you start to contextulize what it must mean innverse.

2021-07-24 16:08:13 +0000 UTCThis was hard to read, and i can imagine how much harder it was to write. Nice work, you constantly amaze me as an author.

2021-07-23 09:04:36 +0000 UTChi this isn’t a criticism. i’m finding the whole original and revised thing confusing. i don’t want to re-read what i’ve read and play spot the difference, but are they major? like this one, i’m not sure which chapter it’s a rewrite of? scrolling through i can find the original with the same name? confused.

2021-07-23 09:04:02 +0000 UTCI agree that I understated how bad slavery is as I have never experienced it, or even seen it directly; just read about it or watched documentaries. But it does make me very mad. If someone is murdered, the victims pain is over quickly. But slavery is like a slow, long term torture - a breaking of the spirit. I may have overreacted in my comment as the chapter was well written. I guess I prefer the slice of life with a side of adventure chapters.
Steven Alexander
2021-07-23 07:53:39 +0000 UTCIf anything, you're understating how bad slavery is in the modern world. However, consider how bad things would be if everyone just ignored it - it may not always make for pleasant reading, but bringing subjects like this to the readers' attention and exploring them through the lens of fantasy is a massively important part of being a good author.
2021-07-23 07:31:27 +0000 UTCWell if you have time to burn, then there are 77 chapters of a story that started in 2014 at https://deathworlders.com/books/deathworlders/ Have fun.

2021-07-23 02:39:08 +0000 UTCA dark and very heavy chapter...if it hadn't been for the end, i don't know how i would have felt about it...i understand why you didn't want to post it earlier...

2021-07-22 03:29:10 +0000 UTCPirateaba is amazing. Now if only she could get a movie deal. Maybe several, like Harry Potter. But retain the rights, like George Lucas.

2021-07-22 02:58:36 +0000 UTCWoah. Didn’t realize just how much Diana saved this chapter. This had a very real potential (as evidenced by the stream readers reactions) to go Poorly, but it wound up being extremely potent. The biggest remaining problem is where in the story it should land because there isn’t really a good spot for it anywhere? Where it wound up getting released is obviously not the best spot for it, it’s way too jarring here. I think maybe the best way would be having the rainbow be seen but not explained in leading chapters? Since a lot of the effect here comes from the calendar— i.e Cinelau — and we can place what other characters are doing while this is happening. Also, the symbology of the rainbow itself works very well but if you’re going to use it you have to hold to it. The rainbow is a symbol from the author to the reader; a covenant; that this is going to be as bad as it gets. Which is good because I don’t think the story could hold up to getting any worse (at least in any way that is so visceral and real). Also of note, this chapter recontextualizes Flos, Gazi, and Trey. Because I really don’t think that Flos would suffer Roshal’s existence if he had any inkling of this— which is of course what Gazi means when she says that he has never been a slave and so he does not know (the chef slave was a really really nice touch). To that end maybe a thought from Gazi when she’s waiting under the ocean about Cinelau and what comes after without naming Roshal’s version of the holiday. Also also also, the slavers and slaves who have died are going to be the most recent news in the land of the dead, and they have important news as well about the return of the Death of Chains but also about the fate of Pisces to a not quite dead innkeeper. I don’t think she’ll take to being dead for much longer. Her first guest needs her.

2021-07-22 02:40:40 +0000 UTCI'd like to compare it to "The Deathworlders" by Hambone. He's been writing longer and only puts out a 'chapter' once a month, but damn those things are a half a day read.
Eric
2021-07-22 02:37:32 +0000 UTCCongrats on the word count. That is amazing. Quote from selkie on Royal Road: The Wandering Inn is arguably the longest work of English fiction in the world. Pirateaba, as a NORMAL CHAPTER, released a 46k word chapter yesterday. Just. What. https://wanderinginn.com/
Steven Alexander
2021-07-22 02:22:21 +0000 UTCUgly, but it sets the stage for a change in behavior for Pisces. I understand the setup, but I must admit to skimming through the chapter as it felt like watching a snuff video. You know people get murdered, but watching it would be unpleasant. Same thing for slavery. I remember being surprised 20 years ago when I found out slavery still existed in the world. Then 10 years ago I found out there were probably a few thousand sex slaves and a few hundred domestic slaves in America maybe more. And the total estimated worldwide slave population was probably about what it was in the mid 1800’s and again, maybe more. PBS has a documentary on the sex slave trade in America and there are several other documentaries as well as books and web sites dedicated to ending slavery; but well… there are real life monsters in this world, and they look just like everyone else. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_the_21st_century https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/sex-trafficking-in-america/ https://www.dressember.org/blog/documentaries https://slavefreetoday.org/documentaries/ https://seattle.bibliocommons.com/list/share/95491275/103895641

2021-07-21 20:43:20 +0000 UTCI read this...then went about my day. But everything Pisces went through kept popping up. Try to work out..Pisces gets burned! Write my reports...Pisces gets hurt even more. This consumed my day...and I hate it so much....but I hope Pisces finds salvation...and REVENGE!!! I’m writing this from a place of knowing how evil it is to be put down....so I hope HOPE , we see one of our own survive, thrive, and put down the masters of the world that is Roshal!!!! Pirate...as much as you write for whatever purpose you write....know that there are some who live this life and read your writing. Give us better than this please. Our hope is in the books we read. I’ve struggled to post this on wordpress! So here I am. Do your worst!

2021-07-21 03:53:34 +0000 UTCAnyone concerned about the trigger warning should defintiely take care. This is a heavy one. Really the heaviest one yet. I'd also add a warning about body horror for anyone concerned. Amazing chapter honestly, but yeah take that trigger warning seriously folks

2021-07-21 03:45:32 +0000 UTCBravo. This is what The Wandering Inn is all about! Light chapters are fun distractions, but what really makes this the best webserial around are the chapters like this one. I think this is the darkest and deepest I have seen this story go. The feelings of desperation, despair, and utter horror displayed made me feel uneasy. It was a deep dive into the world, evil as it may be. The trigger warning is well deserved.
