Story Poll - July 2020

It's me! I'm enjoying my break for the last...day...I have left! But I realize again that we're coming up on the end of the month.

Well, there are less chapters because of my (extremely helpful) monthly break, but that does mean the polls matter...more. So for this one, I thought we'd do a genre poll.

Each option isn't much of a side story since as you know, everything relates to everything in the story. It's rather a theme without focusing on a character. Someone suggested trying that, so blame them if you hate it. We'll see how this poll does!

As always, there will be some...spoilers...but they'll be very vague for acid+ patreons. And you know how they lie. Vote for what you believe in and thanks for reading and supporting the story! We'll be back to the story soon! I've already good good ideas for the first chapter back...

Travel, wanna see the gnoll plains and the other Walled Cities that Erin has invites to see.

CALiGeR

You mean athletes foot?

SabreToothTortseshell

Travel makes me think of the [Coachman] and , The All Roads Lead to Manus Travel Agency....

Paul Jan

Sort of right? Remember, tons of monsters, even the sentient ones have magic or abilities or super(insert thing) built in. I.E vampires, or the more intelligent undead. So she has essentially traded abilities and leveling to use that system. Except all she has is some pretty basic wind control and despite wanting to improve her self sufficiency, I.E potions, caltrops ect, she has stagnated. Im just saying, in the current vvote, regardless of the outcome, it would be nice for her to develop more than just some social skills and a little empathy.

Raymond Powers

I think that understates the case for Ryoka She has learned to do magic a different way than anyone else in the world. Her path is to half-fey wind-sorceress and there appears to be no one else on the planet who does that. Only Teriarch might have a clue -- or Ivolethe coming back and telling the daft bint what she should be doing.

Kyle Aretae

I agree with all of that. However, my point is not if she should or should not fall into the ability system. Ryoka has already chosen a separate path. That has been established. The reasons why have been established. But what is the moral of her story and her choice? That you can stay out of the ability system as long as you convince people in the system to do work for you? That does not need a story. That concept does not need a protagonist. And if that was the intent, why push that on the least likely character to ever accept that secondary subservient role? For Ryoka to stay relevant, she either needs to 1. Progress in her chosen path 2. Give up and gain abilities 3. Find a totally new path 4. Constantly rely on others to accomplish anything. This is my point. #4 just doesn't fit the character we know as Ryoka. So, when is #1 or #2 or #3 going to happen? That to me is the larger story here. in the greater story arc, you have- The antinium evolution to fight a god. The war with demons on Rhir The introduction of earthers and what created this system in the firstplace There are tons of smaller story arcs The weakness of the current mages Gnolls becoming mages The goblins becoming an accepted race. Ect, ect. But Ryokas story consists of the ability system, how it was made, where it comes from and why did ivoleth agree she avoid it? To me, it is one of the biggest story arcs and has been static for a long time. I would just like to see that story arc advance. Almost as badly as I want Erin to meet the titan. :P

Atlus you are ruthless

Matt Creighton

But thats the way of morals and taking a stand. She sees something in the leveling system as malicious. Otherwise in places where warlords reign, were gangs/cartels run the area, you'd just see everyone join up with them because their personal power and safety would grow, but they don't, because malicious system is malicious despite it being a boon if you accepted it. This tracks with many many heroes throughout history, and I think it works well and in line for her character. Sometimes it's not about power and capability. Sometimes it's just about resisting it because you're sure it's the right thing to do. Beyond that... being hyper intelligent doesn't overwrite hyper stubborness, so she's got two things going against this thing.

SimpleSeraph

Honestly. I don't mind too much which one of these wins. I just hope we can get a feel good chapter after some of the recent dark ones. Not that I don't enjoy the dark but I like light humorous chapters that just make me smile too.

Matthew

That is kind of the point. She doesn't trust the system, and that was made clear. ivoleth even supported her distrust and she has struggled with her choice as she watches others develop past her. There are numerous chapters (after this distrust was established), where ryoka struggled with the wind to develop control. But without ivoleth she has stagnated. It is not about personal power, it is about her ability to defend herself and avoid being defenseless- thus all the potions and caltrops. She was the single most capable earthier, and now she is one of the least, simply because of choice. Hard to swallow the idea of someone so intelligent, so self sufficient and capable, sticking with a choice that never pays dividends. At some point she either has to progress along her path or pick a new one, it is the only way for her to progress. It feels like she is getting setup as a late story hail Mary, but as slow as her progress is, it feels less like hyper intelligent character playing the long game, and more just stubbornness.

Raymond Powers

I was thinking more for a [drifter] or [wanderer] class.

Jasha Power

lol sounds like an condition, like Tom's [Lesser Insanity], but yea, I could totally see that for [explorers].

Byron Reynolds

It gives Pirate more agency in the choice. The polls are usually like voting for what you want for dinner and we usually pick "dessert".

WanderingArchitect

I don't like it. I'd prefer a story occuring in Chandrar compared to Baleros regardless of genre. I'd prefer a story on the Antinium compared to the Drakes regardless of genre. I think the poll options are just a bit too vague, but I guess that's intentional.

Full Void

Travel! We must discover morè things of the innworld!

Toni Pampliega

I like it.

Mac

Woo building

afruitlesshippo

It's almost like she explicitly rejected the system that is making people more powerful. She is still influencing a lot of events, but both Erin and Ryoka have decided against trying to accumulate personal power.

wiikipedia

It seems the nobility is the least liked in all worlds

flssdd

lol i think ryoka already has itchy feet

Alexander

Kinda like dangersense but for when to leave town in a hurry

Jasha Power

I voted travel, I want someone to get a skill called [itchy feet] .... that make their feet itchy when spend too long in the one spot.

Jasha Power

Yeah I can't wait to see what Cirille and the gang do next. Ah wait.

Atlas Dwarf

I don't like that we get multiple votes.

The Agent Colson

Regardless of what is chosen, it would be nice for some of the storylines to progress. Some things seem to move forward, (wistram, sightless empire, goblins, earthier tech/ inventions, king of destruction. the twins, knelt, titans students, the UN and practically everyone in liscor. All of these had moved forward, all of them progress. Yet, the person who had the foresight to start on antibiotics, guard against earth tech, predict vampiric diseases, manipulate an all powerful necromancer, a dragon, various nobels and the protagonist while identifying threats like the antinium or earther's as a resource and tons more. But after 5 million words can sorta push some wind around. Essentially, one of the smartest characters has become the least capable. Even trey is now more powerful, despite Ryoka's drive to gain the strength needed to save/protect everyone.

Raymond Powers

Nobility could be good if it went into Lyonette and her family situation more. Kinda don't give a shit about izrils Lord's though. Feel like failure is Laken for some reason.

Compendium

Exactly.. every single time thats my exact thought process ,πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

Kris

I doubt, both goblin homes were pretty much built last time we saw

Ram nevet

Honestly that would make sense

Bean

Failure is the best teacher. Chose wisdom over mere learning. Embrace the path of hardship and join us the fail team.

Gabe Canada

Plot twist! It’s all Laken.

Marius K

Mage class or no

SirThomasXVI

Ryoka needs to get serious about learning magic.

SirThomasXVI

Building, I'm hoping for another Rags or Pebblesnatch story.

Voted failure. I find it more interesting then success

Reijiato

Failure. My favorite stories people fail, a lot, before they get better. Failure chapters always lead to better more fulfilling reversals later.

Halycon404

when you look at the choices and than think which one has the highest chance of Erin actually being the focus

Nathaniel sheive

I vote for failure. Think about it. If failure fails to win arent we all embracing failure?

Gabe Canada

We need Erin to learn how to use her skills! More experimentation more products more money!

BabaNovac

I'm excited to see how this goes! I picked Learning, but any of them sound interesting :) Hope your break has been super rewarding, and I'm hyped for the next chapter! <3
