They're wrong, and need to be stopped. But you can understand why they feel the way they do. Well, Hody is a bit different.....You can take the fishman out of the district, but you can't take the district out of the fishman. Or something haha.

2026-01-24 20:25:44 +0000 UTCArlong was not wrong about the oppression Fish-Men faced, slavery, segregation and dehumanization are real and systemic. The tragedy was how he responded to it. Instead of seeking equality, Arlong turned pain into supremacism. He didn’t want to break the cycle of hatred; he wanted to reverse it. In doing so, he ended up reproducing the same logic as the Celestial Dragons, just with the roles flipped. Characters like Otohime, Fisher Tiger, Jinbe, Nami and Koala showed different paths refusing hatred, choosing responsibility, or breaking the cycle altogether. Arlong refused all of that and became what he hated.

2026-01-24 18:11:16 +0000 UTCthis backstory is always hard. Why must fishmen, who were the ones discriminated against, go out of their way to try to make humans understand them? It's supposed to be the oppressors who learn their mistakes and go out of their way to give reparations and whatnot to the disenfranchised group. Imagine being told to help make yourself uncomfortable, or move your entire life to a different part of the world, in order to try to make ppl who hate you for no reason try to like you. otohime's approach is theoretically 10/10, as tiger mentioned everyone wants peace. but how many more slaves would have just died during all those years while trying to fill out some forms to sign? without fisher tiger's revolution, so many more would have died. it's way more understandable for fish men to close themselves off to humans. it's not just a "few bad ones", it's the fact that enough bad ones exist to enact policy that make life harder for fishppl. it's part of society as a whole. how does one defeat hatred and discrimination in someone else's heart? how does one combat society?
