No objections to adding an extra slot for your teams. There are far too many awesome characters, its hard not to latch on to them. Understandably it fits the show to only have 4.... but as you're figuring out... thats very hard.

As an alternative you could make at some point in the Story a Character Tier List (TOP TIER - Favorite candidates [...] bottom Tier - Didnt enjoy them). Most people would probably be happy about that. :)
