My favourite thing about this episode is honestly that final frame of Deku in the air. Ange, you know the scene in the first film where Dave sees All Might then it fades to Deku? This was that but there was no need to fade it out - the whole world saw Deku as the hero in that moment. Shit, brings a tear to my eye just typing it back out. Thanks for this, both - been a hell of a ride. Much love <3

Doing your best doesn't guarantee victory, even though he has to do his best in order to win. Telling someone "you can do it" changes it from the hope that is in "do your best" to full on faith that the person is going to get the job done. You can do this versus just do the best you can. There were other subtitles that were different and didn't hit as hard during this watch, like after Shigarki asked him to deliver the message to Spinner. Deku says, "Destroy you did." in other subtitles instead of "It's already destroyed." in these. Those mean two different things and feel completely different to me. Anyway it still hit the feels and emotions and I loved watching Carlie go through it lol.

The first time YSR played was during deku's first heroic run to save bakugo in 1x2. Inko mirroring her son's animation also from the same scene. Deku's first smash and final - mirrored again. They elevated the style of writing this show has with so many moments. Outstanding adaption.

Deku says it vs bakugo during the battle simulation exercise and it’s even called out again in season 6 when bakugo is watching Deku overexert himself fighting shigiraki with no concerns for himself. Love seeing it go full circle

2025-11-23 15:01:42 +0000 UTCI kinda agree that mha gets bit of an unnecessary amount of hate, but I still think a big chunk of the criticism is completely valid, especially when it comes to pacing and structural issues For me, the biggest flaw that made the early seasons a drag was the endless cycle of competitions and exams. It genuinely felt like we were stuck in a loop: the entrance exam, the sports festival, the license exam, the training camp, another exam, another tournament. Every major arc kept boiling down to some kind of contest, and after a while it became painfully predictable. That repetition sucked out a lot of the tension. The story kept slowing down instead of building momentum, and eventually it stopped feeling like it had anything meaningful to say. I got so bored of the formula that I dropped the series after season 6 and just watched seasons 7 and 8 through your reactions instead. And honestly, this is where mha falls into the same trap most long running shonen do. It’s basically a rice pudding, perfectly edible but very bland. Not terrible, not amazing, just extremely safe and predictable. You always know the hero will win, usually by yelling louder or unlocking the next power-up. The stakes never feel real, and the structure becomes so formulaic that it blends in with every other big shonen out there. So yeah, some of the hate is over the top, but a lot of it is absolutely earned

While All Might could (and chose to) handle everything independently, Deku inspires others to get back up and help. The lack of initial raw power and bravado that some fans disliked about Deku is exactly what Horikoshi says is his true superpower before getting One For All!

She was the one who inspired him to take Deku as a hero name because it reminded her of the word for 'can do' and now the entire world is shouting "You can do it!"

Class 1A just work so well together, playing well to their strengths and teaming up with those with compatible quirks and fighting styles. This episode was so well done!
