It made rewatching these so much more fun xDD To clarify a few points, we now have confirmation that Jinshi is a fake eunuch and is actually the alleged younger brother of the current Emperor and thus the crown prince. What Gaoshun mentioned at the end about his temporary place is referring to his act as Jinshi the eunuch, not so much his position as the Crown Prince. That's why we had that monologue about the Ka clan, they're the royal clan and the only direct heirs to the throne. Currently only two people in the kingdom have Ka in their names, the current emperor and Jinshi, who's real name is Ka Zuigetsu. He also gets his nickname of "Moon Prince" from that name (the character for 'getsu' in his name means moon). Gaoshun himself (plus his son) is part of the Ma clan and they've directly served the royal family for generations. That's why we see him having been Jinshi's attendant since he was a kid. Maomao had her suspicions about Jinshi not being a mere eunuch and was in fact someone quite high up, though she did not know how high. She also actively ignored her own suspicions about Jinshi not being a eunuch. Hence why she was genuinely surprised but also acknowledged that she might have suspected deep down that he was still packing (so to speak), but she didn't want to entertain that conjecture for too long lmao. I think this story narrative style and all the context clues confirmed now that Maomao is an unreliable narrator. A lot of the actual truth in this story is shared not from Maomao's pov but from context clues and narrative nuances. It makes this story so very entertaining and the anime is doing a splendid job bring it to life. The plot thickens from here on so don
