2025-10-04 15:29:23 +0000 UTCVery interesting discussion about Garp at the end. I'm with Ange. Garp is a marine for the same reason Smoker, Tashigi, Coby and all the other decent people are. I believe he wanted Luffy and Ace to become marines because he wanted more good marines in the navy and rise to the top. That would not change the world government, but good marines are still able to do a lot of good for the common people even under this corrupt system. Just imagine if Ace had showed up as a marine at Nami's village instead of all the weakling marines that got sunk by Arlong. As imperfect the navy is, it's still the only force big and strong enough to protect the common folk. Dragon and the revolutionaries seem to be working on changing that, but Garp has, for whatever reason, decided that it's not a cause worth joining for him. Either because he doesn't believe in its chances (knowing as much as he does) or because he doesn't think that a full blown revolution, and possibly "world war", is more beneficial to the common people than keeping the status quo and improving things incrementaly from within. Maybe it's both. Maybe it's neither. This would be AoT level type of shit and honestly I don't know if Oda wants to get THIS deep.

At this point we fully know that he's high enough to know what the marines have been doing not only with the celestial dragons but with all these pregnant women and children looking for Roger's bloodline. He still chooses to serve them and tries to force Dragon and Luffy to be marine officers too. Coward!

2025-09-23 18:18:09 +0000 UTCSome perspective for the One Piece world, for us the viewers we have shared time and see the pirate for who they actually are by following Luffy, but for common people in one piece, pirate is still a pirate. And the Marine or World Govt is akin to the police/authority. So please understand why some of them thinks Marine are in the good even though we know they are not. Including GARP.
