It's sad that the reason he couldn't spoil his daughter the way his wife wanted him to is because he had to take over her goal of making Kikoru as strong as possible so that she could survive in her goal to be part of the defense force. He didn't know how to do both so he prioritized the one that would keep her from meeting a similar fate as her mother.

2025-09-08 19:31:06 +0000 UTCAll of this going down in like episode 4 was insane. I was watching that episode jaw dropped because I didn't think it would pick up this fast. From killing some enlarged ants to No. 9 showing up and Kikoru's dad needing to put his life on the line to take it out is crazy. Director Shinomiya is such a badass, but what an emotional episode. Learning more about Kikoru's mom, and how her strength kept both Kikoru and her dad inspired to become strong enough to protect others. Almost in tears at the director's line "I was never able to do what a father should do for his daughter" while simultaneously sacrificing his life in an attempt to save her and everyone else. Even if he is really dead (i don't want to believe that yet, not a manga reader), he would have a hero's death.
