Takopi Eps 3-6 FULL REACTIONS!

Comments

"What should I have done?!" by Shizuka is the quote that most stayed with me after watching the series. What is a child supposed to do? There's sometimes a tendency to blame people or even judge kids for their actions that is almost entirely based on their upbringing, but what were they supposed to do? They can't make their families whole, happy and complete. They have exactly zero power over their own upbringing, and yet their upbringing is what will mostly determine how they act and who they become when they grow up. They have no power over their own life and they are soaking up and copying what's happening around them. And sadly, this gets weaponised so much to further racist talking points. People talking from the position of privilege often ascribe way too much of their success to their own abilities and mentality, which has been proven to be grossly overestimated in studies multiple times, but still it informs their world-view so much it clouds their judgement when it comes to others, especially in easily categoriseable ways. So when it comes to pinning the blame for failure of someone other than them, they also falsely ascribe it to the person failing, even if multiple other factors are at play that make it extraordinarily difficult or even impossible for that person to succeed. It's one of the underlying mechanisms of bigotry and oppression.

So, what I understood from the ending/series: "Chronologically" speaking: The story of Takopi begins in 2022 when he travels to Earth and is found by Marina. Takopi is treated harshly by Marina because she is imitating her mother. Marina's father had left her mother, which put her in a bad mental state. Years earlier, Shizuka had attempted to kill herself (potentially after losing her dog, Chappy), but without the magic ribbon, the rope broke, and she eventually moved out of town. When she returns, she steals Azuma (I believe intentionally, as revenge), and that causes the death of Marina's mother. Takopi thinks the only way to make Marina smile is to go back to 2016 and kill Shizuka. When he goes to the Happy Planet, Mama Octopus decides to erase Takopi's memories because he broke the rules. However, Takopi hits Mama, and she does not understand what hitting or killing means since Takopi only learned that from Marina. With that distraction, Takopi travels back in time to 2016 but loses his memories. Then the start of the show happens, and we see Takopi now bonding with Shizuka. When Shizuka and Takopi are in Tokyo and Shizuka hits Takopi really hard, he recovers his memories of Marina and becomes confused, unsure of who is in the wrong. With self-reflection and Azuma's explanation, Takopi realizes that it is not possible to fix their situation and that he just needed to listen and be there. So he does that until he uses all of his magic to use the magic camera once more, going back to the past but not being present. However, he was able to make some changes: Shizuka and Marina can vaguely remember Takopi, or at least subconsciously remember their interactions. Azuma does not get involved with Shizuka (which is better for him) and has a better relationship with his brother (he knows his brother is not perfect, as he is bad at games). This is not a happy ending, though; it is just the happiest ending possible since: Shizuka was still bullied and abandoned, but she was able to connect with Marina through Takopi's memory (and Chappy is alive). Marina was still abused, and her dad most likely abandoned her, but she was able to connect with Shizuka. Azuma was most likely still subject to his mom's impossible expectations but was able to relax knowing his brother isn't perfect and was able to make friends

Shizuka doesn't manipulate him. Not even a little bit. Manipulation implies a dishonest desire to make someone act the way you want them to or to trick them into acting against their deepest will. But that's not the case here. There are two sides. On one side, Shizuka just clearly expresses her own will, her intentions, what she thinks. She is 100% honest with him. In her despair and broken mind, everything she says is her true thoughts, and she doesn't care if it's right or wrong (she's not even aware of it). On the other side, there is the way Azuma perceives in his mind the behavior of Shizuka, an image distorted/amplified by his need to feel useful, to have value in someone's eyes (which he does not find in his mother's eyes).

GTB

Also really liked how they show multiple forms of "abuse" - Marina to Shizuka was bullying - Marina's mom to Marina was child abuse - Shizuka's parents to Shizuka was child neglect (literally saying "I don't know who she is") - Azuma's mom to Azuma was guilt trip / mentally abuse - Shizuka to Azuma was a bit manipulation
