Edward Teach (also known as Thatch) was real life pirate known as "Blackbeard" So whitebeard is named after real life blackbeards first name and blackbeard in one piece is named after real blackbeards last name. Also the person blackbeard killed to get the yami yami no mi was called thatch in one piece. Whitebeard > Blackbeard > finder of devil fruit = Edward Teach Thatch (aka the real life blackbeard from 18th century) :) One more fun fact about real life blackbeard is that after long life of piracy he managed to get royal pardon for his crimes which mimic one piece blackbeard becoming warlord
