Scrolls? Is this the first time scrolls have come up? I think yur right Rudy knows this is real life now but I think final words is such a trope on earth he couldn’t help applying it to the situation thinking it would help the party be ok superstition maybe. It’s a down side to having an earthling pre-life. Hail Hydra! …I am so sorry. I have no idea were that come from… I voted for James Barns. So I was somewhat right about Rudeus’s fillings of his parents. “Just happened to live together for seven years.” I thought as much when he saw Paul again in Millis. But I think since then he sees Paul more of a father now that they can talk more adult to adult. If he had the same time with Zeneth he might fill the same too. Rudy sure did go beast mode there with the hydra’s eye. He rages out out HANDS DOWN. I interpreted Paul’s last smile as the last thing he is seeing is his son. Not Rudeus the great mage, but in his dimming sight he sees his little Rudy. I can’t prove that I’m not a parent to give reason, but I felt that’s what he was smiling at before he died. Yes Zeneth was in Rudy’s whole family visiting. Sitting on Paul’s lap after family dinner. A hand for Lillia. He first instinct. After hearing the father of her child died was to comfort the young master. The boy who might as well be a son to her as well. If I wore a hat I tip it to her. I say too much oxygen was not given to Zeneth’s brain while frozen. She not a vegetable., she tried to speek, but had no words, so she is capable of small movement and noise. Whether she is cognitively capable to regain those skills are unknown. But yah brain damage for sure. For I’m going with infantile brain regression as the diagnosis. Not a doctor. (Shush ) Sadly shutting up now.

Shota Tsunamura

Paul smiled because he saw Rudeus and he was successful in saving him, if he was hell bent on saving just his wife he wouldn’t save Rudeus Also, he said save your mom even if it kills you, i feel like that’s just how he feels and he wanted his son to share that feeling and he did die to save zenith indirectly by saving Rudeus

Morad Alqammaz

You should listen to Pauls last thought, this existed in novel and were cut in anime, and there is cd drama of his thoughts before dieing, please look into it

Morad Alqammaz

I think Rudy is just being honest with himself about the kind of love he feels for Zenith. He's absolutely not saying he doesn't care about her. He spent several years searching for her, he left his pregnant wife to come and help save Zenith, and he wants Zenith to be with him in his home with his whole family. He loves Zenith. We know it, and he knows it. However, he is clear-headed about the fact that the love he feels is not exactly the same as a child's love for his mother. First, because he's not a normal child. His relationship with Paul and Zenith was rarely that of a child with his parents, since he was himself partly an adult. Second, since they were separated when he was very young and he hasn't seen her in 10 years. That's why he's not overwhelmed by his emotions in the current situation and is able to maintain his composure and think clearly. That's a fact. It's not a son/mother love, but he does care about her very much.

GTB

May I just say, regarding Rudy's thought about him not being close to Zenith, to me it's only his defensive thought when Paul confronts him of being so calm and composed, if you'd remember, Zenith was the motivation that Rudy got out the tent after being left alone, he definitely cares.

Jason

Paul has long redeemed himself from the moment he saved thousands of innocent people from slavery

Oscar C

He smiled for both reasons. Because he was able to save his son and because he knew they defeated the monster

Oscar C

This episode was delayed until Father's Day, which is wild.

Josh Waterhouse

Happy Father's Day!

What the show skipped, mate, is when Paul told Rudy “save your mum even if it kills ya,” his gut thought straight after was “and I’ll save you even if it kills me.” There’s no regret in losin his old man, i don't think so… We all know Paul was dead set on savin Zenith, they’d been grindin at it for months. If Rudy never rocked up, only one way I see it playin out: Roxy never gets saved, carks it. Then somehow Paul, Talhand and Geese scrape their way to the 6th floor, right where the devourin devils are crawlin on the bloody ceilings and whatnot... but without Rudy they don’t have that labyrinth guide with the bit about burnin Talfro roots like incense to drive em off. Whole crew gets wiped, no question.

reignyoma

She not vegitative she just abit supressed her communication skills are damaged

demonic-myst

In the book when Rudy see Paul you get Paul’s thoughts in that moment and he was confused and first why everyone was looking at him then realized he was dying. But when he saw Rudy he was relieved that he saved him and knew that Zenith was going to be okay after defeating the hydra

TomNook

Well they said early on zenith was traveling with a different party for a while so at the least the teleportation didnt have any affect on her but I would be curious to know she ended up there, but man losing your dad and then getting your mom who isn't fully there must just seem like a lose lose in the moment to him.

Dune

Rudy is coping when he said he didn’t feel connected to Zenith. It’s a bad habit of Rudy. When he feel pressured, he always tends to escape from the problems/ distant himself from the reality to feel easy. In his past life or now. Remember he felt a strong duty to save his mother in last episode in S1 and how much he struggled in S2Ep17 between his wife and saving his mother? This is also why Rudy is completely broken, desperate and withdrawing after this until next EP when he shift his pain with… well… something else. But this is where he got better in how he face problem from now on(a little bit), after losing his father. Rudy still have a very long way to go.

Turning Point 3 was aired on Mother’s Day. Sylphie’s pregnancy announcement on that day feels intentional. The 1 week delay that lined up Paul’s sacrifice for Father’s Day.

Paul

Yes, this is sad, but you might want to know that this episode called "Fathers" was released on Father's Day... and the worst part is that this episode was supposed to air A WEEK BEFORE AND THEY POSTPONED IT ON PURPOSE

Brian Meza

I feel like the "light novel readers" have a nostalgia bias towards the original work. The author took part in making changes in this adaptation from his original work. He wants to tell a slightly different story from the web novel. Most, if not all the changes still give you everything you need to understand and yet, I believe improves the story telling. Light Novels and Web Novels often spoon feed you more information than you actually need. Light Novel Readers want all the extra context but it isn't necessary for the story telling. The Elinalise change marks a significant difference in what a viewer vs reader would think of her as a person. I think that particular adjustment was better for how they've built up her character in the anime adaptation. Of all the differences I know of, most of them feel like the author is fine tuning his characters and their interactions after having finished the story. Which is different from a studio haphazardly cutting up character's personalities to streamline the plot.

Paul

Without spoiling anything, know that next episode is usually light novel readers least favorite episode because of how much context is left out. I will be back to fill in the blanks next week. Not sure why they decided to leave out so much information, probably to add drama.

Martin Taylor

The character writing is on a different level from a typical anime.

Vero

when rudy kept telling paul to save it, i think its one of those things where he doesn't want it to get jixed, we learn that the sayings from our world dont correlate with the world rudys in now, thats why i think personally paul was a bit sad when rudy said then dont say it tell me later, theres things in that world where its ok top say things during moments that might be a jinx in our world, i dont know tho, just my take.

Noctis

The way I read Paul's ask of Rudy, "Save your Mom, even if it kills you" is Paul's way of getting Rudy to do whatever it takes. Paul lives up to that same oath. Paul would save Rudy, even if it kills him.

Paul

Sadly the opening is not in episode 23 or 24, so they may never watch it. Ironic how the last episode it plays in is the last of the spoilers, and then isn't shown again. Skipping to dodge spoilers means having to go out of your way to watch it after.

Paul

we are not ready fo9r turning point 4

Bocchin

Pauls reasoning for saying that was because he doesn't want rudy to end up like him feeling guilty for the death of his parents.

Bocchin

Pretty sure you guys can watch the opening now. I don't think there is anything left for it to spoil.

Twiska Brand

It's a magic item, a sword that get's sharper the harder the thing it's trying to cut is.

Ryuuji Gremory

As someone with a parent who wasn't really around (not in the left to get milk way) I can really understand what Rudy is saying. He absolutely loves her, but familial love and familial connection aren't exactly the same thing if that makes sense. He loves her but isn't connected enough with her to lose his cool since Rudy is a calm person to begin with, Rudy just tends to underestimate how much he cares about others, like Roxy for example. Paul told him to save Zenith even if it killed him, but really meant it in a fight for her with everything you have sort of way. Paul knows a parents duty is to protect their child even if it kills him which is why he says that what he told Rudy is something a parent should never say, Paul always intended to fulfil his parental duty he would never let his children die for any reason. I also think he smiled since Rudy was safe, while not knowing if Zenith was freed or not.

Volt

From the Light novel. I don't really remember it all to well, but I think Paul acquired that sword before they first went into the labyrinth. That sword is made from a rare metal that excels in hard Scales which is why he was able to cut the head off.

echii_senpai210

Most brutal episode ever, but that's why MT is DIFFERENT. Glad you guys made it this far and gave this show a chance!

Lucas Rogers

paul told rudi to save his mother even if it kills him. because Paul knew he would save rudi even if it would kill him too... and it did:'( (my take at least)

Daniel Griffiths

The fact they did this felt criminal

Mully997

I’m sorry this was the last episode you watched this week for MT, you guys look SHOOKED 🥺🥺

Daniela Bustos

Paul Greyrat…a father…a warrior…and a husband…twice…at the same time… My goat deserved better 😭😭

RimuruSimp

this episode was delayed so they could release it on fathers day btw

VoltraFr

Important Point: when Elinalise says she knows of someone that was crystallized like Zenith

YellowboyRickLee

Found it for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZLAgy-aAa8

Aaron Griffin

For an anime about ED, it has some good fight scenes

Aaron Griffin

That fight was absolutely amazing. It was fast-paced, detailed, and intense. You had no idea what was going to happen and it almost felt real. That’s what I loved about it. The ending was unbelievably brutal though, hits you with the double combo

Synnel

OF COURSE!!! LOL!!! They did that ON PURPOSE!!! Releasing it ON FATHERS DAY!?!?!?! DIABOLICAL!!!

Sergio

In the novel, we get more insight into Rudy's mind. Up to this point, he feels like Paul is one of his best friends and is obligated to save Zenith because he promised Paul he would and because that is what a good son should do. Notice how he always refers to them by their names and not as "mom" or "dad" in his mind. He just doesn't see them as his parents because he was already in his late 30s when he was born to them.

Twiska Brand

There is some audio somewhere (from an audio book maybe) that narrates Paul's last moments

Aaron Griffin

A very important thing the anime leaves out is that when rudy froze it wasn't because he got scared but because the hydra obstructed his vision in eye of foresight. Anime makes it look like he just fumbled and let his guard down but in that moment rudy was blinded. Rudy kept stopping paul because he believed if paul said last words, that would make them being his last a reality. It's the superstition of setting a death flag and he kept wanting paul to save it for after.

Adam

and they purposely released the manga version on fathers day too.

Adam

This episode is heartbreaking. 😭 Rudy wanted to reunite his family, but things are more fractured than ever. Still, I believe it was necessary for Rudy's growth as the main character; he and Paul share a lot, and I'm eager to see how Rudy handles everything when he gets back home.

Valentina

When Paul said, “Save Zenith, even if it kills you,” it didn’t mean that Rudeus was less important to him. It was his final lesson as a father that protecting your family is worth risking your life for. Ange is so good in this discussion LOL . And you guys are right this anime is truly deep. The author wrote the story incredibly well.

지원 우

Paul smiled because he felt relieved that he had saved Rudeus and that his son was still alive. Is official in the novel, Ange’s interpretation is correct.

지원 우

The music and cinematography in this episode is so brilliant. I feel like it guides us to stay stuck in the shock of the moment. You're not allowed to process it. Just like Rudy. Also, Lillia is a legend for taking care of Rudy. She didn't even hesitate. I can't wait for next week!

Cole Knight

i think paul smiled because he saw that rudy was okay and that they defeated the hydra, so zenith would be okay. at least he died thinking he saved his family being the best father he could :(

mb

They delayed this episode a week so that they could air it on Fathers Day. Diabolical.

Sean Mcguinness

Absolute PEAK episode. Paul was my favorite character in the show. I love a well-written flawed character who gets their moment of redemption. The final episodes of the season end in a very controversial direction. But that’s the choice of the writer and you shouldn’t expect a generic shounen happy ending from this show

MrYinYang

Theres also some discrepancies due to the adaptation, due to the pacing changes of anime, it might seem like rudy was much closer to his mother than he actually is because they spend more time developing the earlier chapters and drew out the pacing of it in the anime Most of the changes are pretty "whatever" but in the next episodes they dont include a MAJOR conversation which changes the tone of what rudy is doing and what his internal monologue is. But needless to say, MOST of the relationships in the manga and anime are pretty fucked up in a way and very much forged with trauma and problematic behaviours

Panda

I agree but I also think it’s partly because Paul trusts Rudy more than almost anyone. He believes that since Rudy’s alright he can take care of everyone in his place.

Balek

Watch the OP now its spoiler free :(

DemoniCross

The rollercoaster of emotions doesn’t end until episode 24… we still have more. I absolutely loved this entire season. And I cannot wait for next week. Paul was always my favorite character even in the early episodes because of his flaws, and he tries to always be better despite his flaws.

Some Kinda Abomination

What I got from Paul's last expression was First he was relieved that Rudy's alright, and he felt he has finally done what a father should (he has always been self-conscious about being a lousy dad). Second he was also relieved after seeing Rudy's face when Rudy sees his state, showing he cares despite being calm and cold earlier. And to me when Paul said "Save Zenith even if it kills you" to Rudy, he didn't mean that Rudy means less to him or anything, but he wants Rudy to have that kind of determination and resolve, he wants to teach Rudy protecting his family is everything, even if it means death, that is Paul's final and most valuable lesson, Paul was aware that isn't what a father should say to his kid, but that is a lesson a father should teach to his son.

Jason

He did smile after he had seen Rudy. In my opinion, when he told Rudy to ''save your mother even if it kills you'', the rest of the sentence is "i will save you even if it kills me'', and by the way, I remember this fucking episode being released around Father's Day; they did that.

hussam abdelalim

Happy Father's day 😔

Radiochip

Light Novel Cut Content: IMPORTANT Before round 2 with the Hydra Rudues was so confused on the whole situation Zenith was in. Why was she in the bottom of the Labyrinth and why was she in the crystal with a Hydra guarding her. Also how did it happen? It's possible she was teleported to that specific spot but the chances of that happening are so low he just couldn't believe it. Then Rudues remembered someone's choice of words on Zenith's situation before they went into the labyrinth and thought it didn't make sense how they could've known something that they shouldn't. He started getting suspicious of that person but decided it wasn't the time for that. Not going to say that person's name, but Rudues definitely did not think this was an accident, it was intentional.

Ramon Fax!

Plenty of people already made you aware of the Fathers day thing pretty asshole move from the studio xD. About Paul smile in the novel is said he smiled in relief after his and Rudy's gaze met and the crystal break after that so it was definitely for relaxing after seeing he managed to save his son(in extra content released after the story is thoughts before dying were on a small recap of everyone in the family) even after what he says to Rudy before the fight and about that in the novel the scene is pretty much the same but we go more in depth in Rudy's thought after he agree that's not a thing a father should say -he thinks its wasn't a cruel thing to say because that showed the conviction and trust Paul had in him, and since now he view him as an adult and an equal what he meant was that he was going to save his wife even if it cost him is life and believed in him to do the same- Thank for the top reaction and discussion as always :)

Paperbeef

I am usually one to cry during death scenes like these but I felt like Rudy. Just shock and emptiness. It happens so quick and there’s no time to process it. Such a gut punch. What I really love is that he told Rudy to save his mother even if it cost him his life, which leaves you with a bad taste at first. Then it becomes clear that Paul was always going to save him no matter how dangerous it got, he just wanted him to give his all on this rescue mission.

Jacob Christoffersson

This isn’t really a spoiler — I’ll just quote the LN to clear up a few things the anime left out: • Rudy does love his mom; it’s just that, at this point in the story, he doesn’t feel a deep attachment because he was sent away from home when he was still a small child. • In his last moments, Paul thinks about how happy he is to have saved Zenith… but also feels the pain of knowing he’ll never speak to her again, never watch Aisha and Norn grow up, and never meet his grandchildren. Then, the instant Rudy comes into his line of sight, all that grief fades — the relief of knowing he’s saved his son’s life makes everything worth it.

Adrian Jansen

I was going to leave a link to his final thoughts from the CD drama audio with subtitles but this is perfect.

Ramon Fax!

Only a couple episodes left then it's a waiting game for Season 3 which should be the best of all seasons so far. That is, if the show runners gave it proper dedication because the Light Novel volumes they are covering in season 3 are considered the ABSOLUTE PEAK of the entire series. I agree as well after having read the Light Novels. Season 3 is going to be a BANGER of a season. Fingers crossed it goes all out.

Ryan M

from the Light Novel. Pauls final thoughts. "Ah… so this is it. A flood of memories comes—meeting Zenith, holding baby Rudeus for the first time, the small home they once had. I didn’t do enough. I wasn’t a good father. I yelled when I should’ve listened. I wanted to teach him more… see him grow into a man. He sees Rudeus standing before him now—alive, strong, and with people who care for him. At least… you made it. That’s enough. I’m glad. His thoughts turn to Zenith. Soon, she will be free. That, at least, is something he can give her. The images blur: Zenith’s smile, young Rudeus with food on his cheeks, Norn sleeping against his chest. I really… was lucky… And with that warm thought, everything fades."

Aggie

"Save Zenith even if it kills you" Rudy speaks to it a bit where he believes Paul wants to him to have the same level of determination that he has when it comes to family. Lots to be unpacked :)

Bendle

there is a whole part about what goes on in Paul's mind when he dies in the light novel, he is really thinking about Rudy and how he was never gonna let him die, that is why he asked him to even die for Zenith, cause he was gonna always protect him and die instead of him anyway

Antonio Murolo

I'am quite interested what your reactions will be to the final two episodes since it's a bit controversial with some people that have reacted to the show from what I've seen.

Aser Studios

It’s not really a spoiler, but you’re both right it was in part relief that they finally saved zenith and having saved Rudeus. In fact in a drama disc detailing what Paul, was thinking we hear his exact final thoughts it’s very sad

A Guy

Happy Father's day ( those bast**** delayed the publishing of eps to publish this one on father's day).

Yoann Bigor

mind you this ep was delayed for a week iirc, the day they released it was the exact day for Father's Day, the studio was on some demon time back then lmao

Argent6

Can’t wait to get home from work so I can watch this! Been waiting so long for this masterpiece episode🙏😭

Oscar C

best ep !!

지원 😊

It was insane that this episode was released on Father’s Day. The studio purposefully delayed a week of release after the turning point #3 episode to make sure this was released on Father’s Day. Absolutely diabolical

MrYinYang

Just wanted to let you guys know that you can now watch the OP the next episode
