Man, I love the writing for this family, but this is always such a hard episode to watch. One thing I want to highlight for you two is how each characters quirk symbolizes their arc in the story. I won’t go into detail, but it’s more so just something to watch as the show nears its end

The problem is that he began severely neglecting him after he realized he could no longer carry on his ambitions. While he didn't want him to keep hurting himself, he failed to realize how much Toya idolized him and wanted to impress him, and began to completely shut him down. Neglect is also a form of abuse

I want to point out Toya's hair color has been correctly changed to white in the flashback scene with the ball this episode. (it's just after the mid episode infographic)
I feel like you will still find fans debating if it was a mistake by the animators and if it was a retcon or not by the author to have Toya's hair gradually change from red to white as he got older.
The animators changing his hair to white when they previously always depicted it as red in that scene is something I appreciate.

I feel like it's important to recognize that Endeavor did care for Toya beyond his capability to surpass All Might. After he realized that Toya's quirk was incompatible with his body, he wanted a normal, happy life for himself. He wanted him to stop hurting himself.
It's just that he also took all of the ambition he had for Toya away and put it into Shoto; that was the problem.

I like how they portrayed the ugliness of endeavor's past behavior on his face

Why not? What does it actually change about how Endeavor has affected Hawks' life? Hawks witnessed Endeavor's battle in Kyushu, dude. He knows that Endeaavor is a hero, regardless of his past.

"Shoto is the hero of our family" THAT'S MY BOY RIGHT THERE!!
It kills me every time when I think about how all Shoto wanted was to be a part of Touya and his siblings' lives while Touya wanted to replace Shoto as Endeavor's "masterpiece" TToTT
Touya actively tried to get the people in his family minus Shoto who was too young at the time to see him, listen to him but no one did meanwhile the only person who always kept looking at Touya was Shoto. Man this gets me up in my feels every damn time!!

i wish hawks hadn't immediately accepted endeavor after touya's reveal, that doesn't seem realistic to me

loved loved this ep! im not gonna talk about in lengths about the parallels with hawks/dabi/shoto since its all pretty obvs and straight forward with all the flashbacks now known but something I recently discovered is there also seemingly a parallel with deku and dabi
i was rewatching s2 and there was a scene where Recovery girl says to all might how he 'lit a fire under this boy' regarding deku and its similar to this eps theme (the title is literally 'The Wrong Way to Put Out a Fire') and the same way deku was going beyond and didnt care for himself breaking all his bones just to somehow live up to All might... imagine that if he didn't have a good support system and was basically how dabi was treated.. they might have ended up on the same path.. just sad to think about imagine being handed all these expectations and responsibilities and then turn a 180 on you and be yeah no you actually aren't good enough let me go find someone else
everything is so sad and hard remember back on s1 where our problems were who was gonna be class rep... oh good times.. happy times.. xd

it gets me when i think of how touya's accidents happened due to his crying, triggering his flame powers, and as he didn't know how to stop them, just burned, thinking his family left him behind because he was useless as a son and not worth his father's love TT^TT
