Mushoku Ep 17 FULL REACTION!

People aren't 2 dimensional, a bad person can still be a great father. I think the author did a good job of showing that, you hate Paul for some things but you can honestly not say that he didn't care or you can't respect how he never gave up. I think people in general do a worse job at seeing real people more than that as well. Like I feel we judge people way more on what they say rather than their actions. Like I think we can all say we've said stuff we thought we meant in the moment but put in a situation exactly like it, we might've acted differently than we said. Guess that's also a context thing

As someone who read the entire novel, I am so excited for some of the later arcs. There are some arcs that really show Rudeus's growth as a character. The arc where he meets the Latreia (to avoid spoilers) family is just one of the best to me. It displays this world's ideologies, politics, influences, and it also displays what sheer unbridled power could achieve in those other categories!

I love how this show takes on mental issues and the growth of the characters, i think it makes it really well, I can't wait for you to get to the next season and more :P

Great writing and execution this episode, I've seen this episode several times and I still always cry, this series always hits deep on real-life stuff with fathers and families, which is unexpected from an "isekai" based in a fantasy setting.

great observation, I hadn't picked up on the resentment Paul would have towards Rudy

Idk thats like saying a kid shouldn't be worried about their parent just cause they used to be a soldier.

Loved it, never get tired of seeing the reactions when they are that good

I always think it is a little unfair that Paul gets mad at Rudy for thinking about Sylphie before Zenith - Sylphie was just a little girl while Zenith was a retired S-class adventurer - if at all possible she should be expected to survive the experience.

The line “this all has been like a game to me” is amazing to me, Paul thinks Rudy is talking about since the mana disaster, but I think Rudy is talking about his whole life since rebirth. This argument is another in a long line of wake up calls telling Rudy to actually get serious about living like he promised himself he would at the end of ep1

One of the best features of Mushoku is how it feels that its plot is driven by the characters' established traits and personalities and not vice versa. People are imperfect and they act in accordance with their strengths and flaws and that drives the story. For example, in the last two episodes it's not stated explicitly, but it's clear from the dialogue how Paul admires Rudy even to the point of resentment. Paul said it before - Rudy never gave him an opportunity to be a father and teach him a lesson or two. The one time he wanted to scold Rudy for hitting a neighbour's kid, it turned out he was the one in the wrong. Not only is he smart, he's also impossibly talented at magic. Maybe that's why Paul has seemingly limitless expectations from his son. Survive? Obviously! He was supposed to save his family too. Then he hears how Rudy's been having a great time - he cannot stop winning! Paul, on the other hand, failed to find anyone from his family. Sure, he saved some people, but many others ended up dying. All this + alcohol boiled up and Paul just couldn't hold back the anger.
