I don’t know if anyone else has brought it up, but Togashi (Hunter x Hunter author) was heavily inspired by the themes of Parasyte manga - released a long time ago, despite the anime being more recent - for the Chimera Ant arc re predator and prey organisms and how awful humans can be. Rewatching it now, it seems pretty obvious that Youpi (the red royal guard’s) design was inspired by the parasites, especially during his rage form when he’s covered with all the eyeballs & with all the fighting tendrils!
