i've watched a fair few reactors watch this episode and it seems all most all of them missed the same detail when he made the elixir... when he crafted it, it gave him a total of 6 of them

but why are you going into the show looking for that? that's your issue stop watching things and expecting things it isn't this is a hype show and that's all it will do if you don't like a shallow plot then its not for you but that's fine but to call it bad is disingenuous

I personally don't think it's a bad take. Especially when you compare it to something like meruem vs netero.

in the context of anime only, this was a 10/10 episode. as someone who read the manwha, I definitely wish they didn't change up some stuff but still thought this episode was fantastic. also, Akaza getting PTSD flashbacks with the "I must run to survive" line lol

Why offer an upgrade you don’t need? Why did Jin Woo look desperate and pressed? Simps are just gonna cope and think whatever they want without respecting what the author and animators are trying to convey. Same thing happened in season 1. The system simply does not want Jinwoo to die.
Jinwoo is physically stronger but the Ant King is a god of speed, which they left out of the anime. Fun tidbit to know.

Also... With Jinwoo's VA... It's his breakout role, so his first EVER main role. his name is Taito Ban.

The only way Jinwoo wasn't winning this fight was if he didn't have immunity to poison. The upgrade to Fatal Strike was just to speed things along. Jinwoo still had about 10 different ways to get the Ant King off of him in that moment, Mutilate just happened to be in his face so that's what he used.
While Jinwoo and the Ant King were fairly matched in speed and strength, the Ant King did not have experience. Jinwoo won the fight because he wasn't a toddler fighting on his literal first day of life xD

The healing potions early in the episode was better explained in the manwa at an earlier stage. When he said he cant "transfer" the potions he meant he cant physically hand a potion to someone for them to drink themselves. Once the potion leaves his hands its useless, hence why he pours them into peoples mouths.

I definitely feel it would have been more satisfying to see Jinwoo bleed a bit from such a high level threat (as in, i wish the black ant was more of a devastating foe for him). Though I think it could be that this was more intended to show off just how strong Jinwoo's gotten, when compared to other S Rank hunters. My guess is they wanted to show us a spectacle, displaying Jinwoo's power, so that we understand how strong future enemies are going to need to be for Jinwoo to be pushed to the edge. Not to mention Jinwoo DID almost die, but it was quickly dealt with by the system.
I think for those saying it was not impressive though, I don't think that's necessarily a fair assessment, objectively. If that's just an opinion you have, that's understandable, but it was extremely impressive in terms of animation. I also feel like the emotion was there to a degree, with him essentially needing to win this fight to save Cha. Though I can understand if that feels a bit lacking as a factor.
Still though, arguably one of the most insane fights in anime. The only fights I can think to compare it to in terms of animation quality and complexity are Tengen vs Gyutaro, Saitama vs Boros or Sukuna vs Mahoraga.

I didn't read the manwha so idk for the reading part, but it is not because of viewers here. The fight and its progress clearly show that Jin Woo is above. If it is not the aim, it is a misstake from animators or the author here from my point of view.

To Carlie's point - The fight against the demon guy in the castle, the rain and darkness really washed out the scene, making the action hard to follow. This scene was much easier to follow.

21:00 man Carlie is a bit mean to the poor ant haha, gotta look at this from its perspective. It’s born to find humans trying to kill its siblings and mother in their home of course it’s gonna have some sort of hatred towards humans.

It’s not easy to notice for most, but Jin Woo should have lost this fight. The only reason he survived was because the system intervened and offered him a max upgrade to Fatal Strike one microsecond before his brain gets skewered. That’s why the Ant King screamed HAX! Because it is.

Yeah I get what you're saying but you have to realize many of the people fascinated by it are not experienced with anime so it is a novel thing for many of them. I'm sure if you were at the beginning of your anime journey you would've loved it. I still thought it was a great episode, just something to enjoy for the badassery and not take it super serious, it's not aot. You also have to realize what sort of message it sends to animation studios: taking time to produce quality animation can boost ratings sky high

I agree with you on that. It was flashy and good on the eyes, but the fight didn't have much about it. When reading the manhwa it felt more complete, I guess. Here, it felt too short and one-sided. Maybe I'm just not a fan of situations when enemies are introduced as "insane-level threats" yet get bodied in like 10 minutes by the MC. When comparing this fight to the one with Igris, the difference is honestly pretty clear in terms of the emotion and choreography. At least in my opinion. Props to the animation studio tho, this was some Mappa level stuff.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I wasn't that impressed. Not a competitive fight, no emotion behind it, not even dialogue. Just goes to show most the anime community only really cares about good animation and looking cool. (Gonna get cooked for this take, but oh well)

Ange's reaction to that mid episode cliffhanger did not disappoint hahaha!
Also Carlie calling the Ant King pretty after his transformation was so cute xD
Jinwoo messed up the Ant King the way Levi messed up the Beast titan, absolutely loved it! (I will never stop referring to Levi Ackerman whenever a character goes mutilation god-mode like that)
A-1 cooked a whole ass meal out of this episode and then some! 20/10 absolute PEAK adaptation. In the manhwa (and the novel I believe) we see Jinwoo defeat the Ant King fairly easily, which absolutely works for the manhwa since part of what makes it amazing is Jinwoo aura-farming pretty much everywhere, but I also LOVE how they decided to make him sweat a little in the anime version. The way they set it up, the Ant King is like an alter-evil version of Jinwoo. Similar traits in that the Ant King evolves by taking on the powers of the beings he kills, while Jinwoo levels up each time he defeats an enemy/dungeon boss. (the manhwa explains that the poison the Ant King used on Jinwoo was one he obtained and modified by eating a cone snail or something). The anime used the parallels of Jinwoo in season 1 ep 6 and the OST Dark Aria with the Ant King vs the Korean S-ranks last episode to further highlight the similarities between the two. The reason the fight was "easier" is because unlike the other hunters, Jinwoo's skills evolves each time he trades blows with the Ant, something he also notices while fighting. The Fatal Strike is what he used against Igris in season 1 which now upgraded to Mutilation during his fight with AK. The way the anime *shows* these changes through the fighting by having Jinwoo struggle a little bit at the start to later overpowering the Ant King, likely due to his rate of evolution being higher than the insect, was just so incredibly well done! Genuinely, hats off to A-1 for doing that. It made an already epic fight in the manhwa ten times more epic in the anime version. Indeed the animation was peak, the voice acting was S-tier, the OST is so goddamn good! The episode direction overall has me speechless, this is beyond what I had imagined this fight would look like in anime-form. Both Taito Ban (Jinwoo VA) and Akira Ishida (Ant King VA) went all hands on deck for this episode. Abolutely absolute PEAK man...!
Taito Ban recruiting Ange into his shadow army with his one liners xDD
Fun fact, Akira Ishida also voices Akaza from DS, and as Akaza he says the same line that Ant King here: "I have to hurry and get out of here" xDDD (he said that in relation to the sun coming up right after he'd fatally wounded Rengoku) Two different characters, same voice, two different contexts but same lines lmaooo xDD
I also think about the Jinwoo vs Baran fight, while the animation and SB/ED (imo) was really very good, the fight itself felt messy and hard to follow due to the composition, like the background rain etc. Felt a little too crowded. And yes, the frames felt neater and crisper(?) in this fight.
I'll say it again, I am absolutely LOVING this adaptation of Solo Leveling, and while there may be folks who disagree, I feel like A-1 was the best choice for this anime seeing just how dedicated and passionate they are about giving the best justice possible to the series. At least with the important story-beats. Even when they cut stuff from the manhwa, so far I have not felt that it impacts the overall story negatively. Credit where credit is due, they're doing such an amazing job with this anime and I'm so so excited to see what they'll give us in the next seasons. Can't believe there's only one more episode of S2 left omg! ><
Thank you C&A for a banger reaction as always!! <3

When "King ant" turns into Hollow Knight boss you know shit is about to go down.
As for the elixir not working, Senzu Bean was not cure all, fix all either. It couldnt cure Gokus heart condition for example.

Totally agree - the fight was just more digestible despite it being so fast still. I think the color outlines helped a ton and the dark backgrounds they used. In the fight against Baran it was raining and i felt the background conflicted a bit with the actual fight

okay so a few things! when Jinwoo said he couldn't transfer the healing potions he meant he couldn't physically give it to them, so he had to ask them to open their mouths so he could pour it for them lol. The elixir of life didn't work on Cha because it said that those specific types of conditions (like injuries and stuff especially how severe Cha's was) aren't covered by the elixir, that's why it didn't work for her. This fight was absolutely amazing and it did the fight in the Manwa justice IMO

Taito Ban (VC for Jinwoo) is a relatively new voice actor when it comes to anime (started 2017) and he's only done some supporting characters in animes you've seen. This is his first big break and I'm sure there will be more to come, which is exciting since he is freaking amazing.

The elixir of life is only able to cure illnesses not wounds. When he gave to Cha it says "the condition is not covered by the drug", because she doesn't have an illness.

So in this episdoe it showed a brief flashback to him DURING the job change specifically and health potions or potions in general don't work if the target is below 10% hp so him trying the elixir was him thinking maybe it waa different sadly it was not it is still a healing potion technically at the end of the day and won't work on cha she is like less than 5% i would say

I'm not 100% sure since I'm an anime only, but I think i remember the description of the elixir saying it only works for incurable diseases & conditions. I see it as like a miracle drug, but since Cha doesn't have any condition or disease it's not covered under the elixirs requirements to be effective. (correct me if I'm wrong manhwa readers)
