Also in Mushoku Tensei, one man having several women isn't considered "bad", except for the church of Millis. ...Zenith IS part of the church of Millis. But Sylphie isn't so she doesn't care. And Zenith knows Paul didn't rape Lilia, but it gave her an exit between "keep employing the maid whose my husband cheat me with" and "send my maid to die away with her unborn child". Saying "my husband forced the maid so now i take care of this jerk's victim" is...kind of more honorable?

Even in our IRL world today, there are places where men have multiple wives. Hell, even in the US. So, not that I'm endorsing any behavior in this show, but I think we need to remember that these characters are part of their OWN world with its own rules, both social and political. Also, you did realize that Paul sent Rudeus away after he asked how Rudy would feel if he told him not to see Sylphy anymore, right? Could that possibly have been something GOOD our scummy Paul was doing? Don't miss out on those nuances. The character's are grey.

It’s important, and especially in this relatively grounded medieval setting, it’s obviously very common for women to be victimized sexually. My main friend group recently cut this dude off because he kept being creepy towards the women in it. Like me and some of the other guys sat him down and talked to him about it, *very* gently, but he just didn’t get what was wrong about constantly hitting on female friends who’d made it clear they weren’t interested. Rudeus still has a long way to, unfortunately. But Rome wasn’t built in a day, and one’s personal toxic masculinity can’t be deconstructed that easily.

So yah back to that genetics conversation, the Grayrat family is know for having a vary big deserve that some might call it a curse, Rudeus is just unlucky to have his memories of being a first in his past life combined with this genetic drive. 2025-03-23 21:24:17 +0000 UTCThe show is basically all about second chances and flawed characters, most of the characters are flawed in one way or another, growing to be better people, they will never become paragons of virtue or saints but they are realistic living characters that grow to be better people than they were before. That also means calling out their flaws is the right thing to do, you are supposed to see those flaws and recognize them as such, and then be open to see them grow from there (which you seem to be). As for Sylphy not finding it weird that there are suddenly two wifes/babies, in most of their world monogamy isn't a set rule, it's more a matter of personal preference and practicality, if you are ok with it and can support it financially you are free to have multiple spouses (technically also in all directions). The only exception to this are those following the Millis faith, which Zenith is, making the whole situation even worse as Paul specifically swore to live a monogamous life with Zenith. (Well even without that there is a difference between proper polygamy/polyamory and fucking your servant behind your spouses back, so even if Zenith wasn't a follower of Millis this would be bad)

2025-03-23 17:10:28 +0000 UTCSomeone probably already said this but i will give some non-spoiler info that the anime don't touch but are in the novel and give a better understanding of some situations: 1-Demons are not like in DemonSlayer, its just a race like Ghislaine is a BeastFolk(or Beast Race), Roxy is a Demon from the demon continent as said in a previous episode, most races have their own continent or country. 2-Rudy unknowingly made Paul pay for his assault on Lillia when they where teen since then he run away from home has said in ep3 and as you pointed why she is working here now Lillia was a royal guard and remain heavily injured on duty and so unable to continue that job and having difficulties finding another due to her injury that's when she found a job offer as a maid in Buena Village and while she was ready to blackmail Paul to take her in as the house maid or she would have told Zenith what he did to her, that wasn't necessary since he accepted her without problem and even gave her a better pay the offer said. 3-Last but not least while in this world polygamy is a common thing and is not unusual to have mistresses or out of marriage rapports(especially for Asura Nobility, Buena Village where we currently are is in the Asura Kingdom that is also where Paul is from) Zenith grew up in Millis that is a kingdom heavily based on religion, a religion where the marriage is a must to be monogamous that's why the Paul betrayal hit her even harder. Hope you will enjoy the watch and yes calling out Rudy scummy behavior is the most sane thing to do to enjoy the show honestly so his character development will also be noticed better.

Just like a war hero who has saved many allied soldiers can be a terrible human personality wise, the morals and what is considered good or bad in this story is painted in a whole lot of grey.

It's not an easy watch a lot of the time, but the show has no pretences about being a wholesome family anime. There are parts where you absolutely should be disgusted, made to feel uncomfortable, repulsed or otherwise appalled. But that's what makes this show an interesting character portrait. Fiction absolutely should examine the darker aspects of humanity.

Just to kind of orient you guys, Ange was right, it's more of a setup right now. Usually shows take 1 maybe 2 episodes for this, but this show fleshes it out which has big payoffs later. I don't know if you guys will end up enjoying the series in the end, but I hope you guys at least find some enjoyment in it. Though, I'm worried about ep 6, I don't know if I can watch it and I just wish you guys could skip over the parts in there.... Also, I don't think Ange even touched on or reacted to Ghislaine's outfit did he? Is this a sign he's becoming desensitized ? :o

Paul usually comes from a family where he could marry multiple wives so that's why its not weird to them. Zenith was still hurt by it but zenith knew who Paul was she knew what he did to Lilia and she knows he's a womanizer he says so himself.

Since he's always been so aloof, Zenith often worried that Rudy didn't love his family. Also it's not uncommon in this world for men to have multiple wives depending if you don't follow certain religions. Paul officially married Lilia after this

It doesn’t shy away from controversial and uncomfortable topics. I think that’s one of the strong points of this show.
