I Can See You (VIDEO)

I was at a friends party last weekend, and people asked me what I thought of the Speak Now stuff, and I said I hadn't done it yet .... and they were shocked (I mention this in the video). Anyway, I have heard from many of you and people on YT that this is the next thing you wanted to hear. So here it is. Enjoy the haircut, now let's get groovin ...

This was my favourite vault track initially but now it’s middle of the pack. I do think this is about John Mayer, which gives the weird vibes surrounding being told what to do, likely by someone who was seen as an authority figure in age or status. Some of the feelings she likely wasn’t allowed to express as a young woman, through parents or label, due to the impact on her image. Especially because of her faith? (Re: Would’ve could’ve should’ve). We know she didn’t express many explicit sexual feelings in songs till Reputation (2017). We get the aftermath on the standard album (Dear John) but it’s interesting to feel her perspective at the start/during the relationship. I feel bad for her because a lot of girls relate to it inc me, being with older guys at a young age, doing whatever they want to make them happy. Wanting the fantasy but getting the reality. In hoping that they’ll “pick” you and regretting it all when you are older. That’s all I see in her collection of songs about John Mayer. I’m glad the vault tracks weren’t on the album because I wouldn’t have like it to be the John Mayer album. Loved your insights as always and your hair looks great!!

Perfectly said!!! There are so many queer references throughout her music, videos, outfits, interviews, tours (Dress from the reputation tour in particular), etc. Whether or not Taylor is a part of the queer community, we find community through her work. Unfortunately a lot of people who voice opinions on that topic get literal death threats. Anyway. Loved the reaction, Andy! Can’t wait for more. A lot of us are clowning as we say, that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is coming this week! Perhaps on 8/9!

IF this song is auto biographical (she experimented a lot this album with songs about stuff she had not personally gone through), then my theory: it’s about another woman. :) “I can see you” as in, I can see that you too are a closeted queer (gay / bi / pan etc) woman like myself and I’m picking up on those vibes. This whole song definitely feels like the kind of sexy song between two people of the same gender who have to sneak around & hide it bc being open would cause problems professionally. A lotttt of Taylor’s songs *can* read as queer, whether she is or not, which is cool… but also means there’s a possibility it’s true. Just because her only public relationships have been with men doesn’t mean she hasn’t had others. Some fans think this is about an former (female) band mate who she was very very close with during the fearless & speak now eras Also, you and your haircut looks damn good 😍
