2025-03-18 14:32:51 +0000 UTCMushoku Tensei is not the first isekai, but it is considered as the grandfather of isekai (alongside Re:Zero) because it is what popularized the genre and the tropes (truck-kun is so popular because of MT for example). The same way Dragon Ball is considered the grandfather of shonen even though it is not the first shonen. I recently checked Narou (the site where people upload their web novels) and MT is still in top 3 even after 10-11 years after completion which is crazy

Second, the anime has been out for 4 years, but this was an extremely popular light novel since 2014. It popularized isekai in the same way Dragon Ball popularized Shonen Battle manga. In the same way, Solo Leveling is basically the Dragon Ball of Korean Manhwa. It spread it to a main stream audience. This isn’t in comparison to their quality, just their relative impact on the industry
