The "comedic" nature of some scenes is a matter of interpretational flexibility, for example when Rudeus goes to the slave trader and there should be palpable discomfort from any modern viewer that's familiar with humanity's history with slavery, but the distinction is that in that world it's an aspect of life that's viewed differently. The objective I feel with the contrast being that this is the type of world that suits Rudeus as a person, but then you see him encounter obstacles that bring memories of trauma from his past life. We see Paul and Zenith being depicted as a "wholesome" family unit, and Paul is definitely someone who cares for his family and children a great deal. He was also a rapist. Nothing is quite as simple as it may be presented to be.

Fairly sure anyone bagging on this show for having a main character that has some very disturbing traits is borderline illiterate. The show explores the complexities of character, it's one of the few anime that dares to portray execrable moral values in its main protagonist, gives context for how and why he is the way he is, dares to allow him to change and grow. Crime and Punishment is a novel that starts off with a young man murdering an old lady with an axe as an act of self affirmation. It's also considered one of the great pieces of character writing in the history of literature. The proper function of fiction is the exploration of human behaviour, and how can you do that when every show you watch is fronted by the morally upright shonen battler bulwarked by the power of friendship? "Rudeus does bad things" is not a criticism of the show. It's an alarming declaration that you're not literate enough to understand that portrayal doesn't equate to justification.

This is the grandfather of Isaki aka one of the og that started our standards today. It came in 2020 so no not too old they chose to adapt it now because the tech was there to do with justice finally. And season 3 was confirmed a few years ago. Also I’m probably wrong on this but I also heard studio bind is the Japanese studio run by an African-American team, but I might be fact checked on that. Going forward I will be referring to Ruduse (adult mind) wen I talk about his 34 year old self, abs Ruddy (child brain) wen taking about his physical current self yes it’s confusing sorry. But the kind and brain are somewhat two different entities here and I don’t mind but still a growing baby brain abs they don’t always work in tandem. For example him just shouting out “she tinny!” Is his baby brain working with that no filter just say what yu think all toddlers have. Also Rudy doesn’t have full adult emotional control anymore such as when he started to tear at the embarrassment of looking like he wet himself. Very few people know about the novels, I read it all, including all the web episodes, most people judge MT by the anime, it's only natural. But I agree with you it's one of the greatest light novels, it was written in a classic fantasy setting with an ACG spin on it, and from what I know (I could be wrong), it did have quite an impact in the light novel industry in Japan.

Big props to Ange for picking up on how important Rudy’s love of magic is, and especially how it relates to his lewdness. In his previous life he didn’t strive for anything, just indulged in his perverted nature and lazed around, and he hated himself for it. But finding something you love, and can work at, and can see yourself getting better at? That’s the bedrock of self-esteem and that process will make anyone a better person to some extent. The confidence Rudy has already gained from learning magic is making him feel like he can be normal, can try his hardest like everyone else.

This series is peak but it takes a lot of really uncomfortable character growth to get there. It’s okay, normal even, to absolutely despise Rudy at the start, he’s not a good person, he’s completely broken, his perverted “hijinks” are deeply disturbing. But he does get better, and that growth is ultimately very satisfying even if you had no patience for the character at the start. In the end, MT is a very humanistic show with a positive message of hope and personal growth, and tremendous care for its large cast of complex female characters who exist as more than just wish fulfillment trophies to be objectified. The setting of the show is brutal to women, the show itself is deeply sympathetic to the treatment of them in such a world.

My guess is because in other isekai the MC's inner voice is their current teenage voice that fits their new appearance/life. Whereas in MT we hear his inner monologues in his 34 year old voice which makes his pervy impulses sound more "creepy" as opposed to other isekai where it comes off as just a teenager being a teenager. That would be my guess is a big factor as to why this one is hated much more. It gives people the impression that it's an adult in a child's body, whereas other isekai it presents more as just a teenager with memories from a past life. Even tho they're essentially the same in concept, the reception is very different due to the inner voice being a man instead of a teenager.

The show acronym is MT. Not trying to sway your opinion. Anyway, the show is controversial for obvious reasons you will find. For some, people rather just find a very strong show that doesn't rock the boat like JJK and DS. Some are ok with shows that push their sanity with their weird decisions but are super strong shows. Some shows comes to mind is HxH (Hisoka/Gon's decisions), One Piece (Pacing/Luffy's stupidity sometimes), Kaguya, and this one. All are very diff shows, but all are peak in their own ways. But sometimes that weirdness can be too much, and sometimes straight, clean shows can be as good. For me, MT is a show that is more than good where their decision can get a pass but I will still cringe at their weird decisions. Overall, I hope you can enjoy the show without too much sway from the audience. Watching tv shows is fun, because they can be diff/unique and breathtaking experience that sometimes break your sanity :). Enjoy!!!

So personally ive seen the first season and the second one. And for me its one of the best series ive watched. The writing and direction of the show, the way that give his time for the worldbuilding, lore, the growths in every character and even more with rudy, the amazing and beutiful animation and music. I understand why so many people dont like it and the questionable things that rudy do, yes its wrong but i think that shows you a part of the human and how the horrible things that u live in ur environment can affect and distort and kinda replicate if u dont heal them and make them in something good. And thats the thing that i love the most of mushoku, the way that show u slowly and the growth of the mc, its not always easy and has ups and downs in his behavior and as a person. Season 1 is rough to get through. Rudy is a scumbag through and through and you are meant to hate him. This whole story asks the question, "can the irredeemable still be redeemed?" While watching the first season I hated this show but now after finishing season 2 and the light novels, I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite stories in all of fiction. Seeing season 1 Rudy and it doesn't even feel like the same character. Similarly to ReZero, the MC isn't meant to be likeable at first, it's a come-around story, I haven't seen beyond the first half of S1 and I can even tell you that's the intent of the show. The animation, world-building, and side characters are all great. I'd say finish Season 1 and you'll know if the show is alright with y'all. If you lose 5 subs who are childish and calling other people in the comments pedos, just say good riddance, you'll gain more fans through this show than the very few you'll lose anyway. One of the seasons is the 81st highest-ranked anime season of all time right now on MAL. So I highly doubt the show ever has paedophilia. Enjoy your journey

The MC is supposed to be a scummy weirdo in the beginning and some parts of him still are later on. What makes this story shine is the world building and character growth. The characters are complex and multi-faceted. Even if a character has a few or many dislikable traits there are often other parts of them that are good. The morals in this show are not black and white but a whole lot of grey. Easy early example is how the MC is a perverted weirdo but he still chose to sacrifice his life to save three complete strangers. Then there is also the philosophical aspect of how much of his character can be attributed to his "soul" or his new body.

Mushoku Tensei is a great story. On the other hand, it has aspects where if you can't watch it because of the main character and those aspects, perfectly understandable. It has some low lows from the worst aspects of anime, but from a story telling perspective has some extremely high highs.
