He wants to help his mother but now he puts her in danger by not helping to get rid of national level threat. I know its ment to be a plot device but its so blatantly obvious that it bugs me (pun intended).

Do you think this is the first time insect monsters have ever been used? Please. I mean, of course there's deliberate reference (same as the One Punch Man workout and other things here and there). But that doesn't mean it's the same thing.

The ants then threaten to take over the world and wipe out humanity. It's exactly the same. Now the plot AROUND the ants is very different and doesn't play out at all like HxH. But the idea of the ants themselves is just straight up stolen. I'm not hating on Solo Leveling. Excited to see how they handle the idea.

2025-03-09 14:01:33 +0000 UTCI know there’s inevitably a lot of HxH Chimera ant comparison, but it’s really not. The Chimera ants were horrific due to combination with humans. They didn’t even look very much like ants. It was a long, emotional story. These are just ants. They are dungeon beasts, most are not particularly intelligent. They are just strong and there are lots of them. This is an S rank dungeon break, not psychological horror. Also (HxH spoilers for anyone who has not seen it), remember Meruem died in the end from radiation poisoning. We don’t seem to have any handy nuclear bombs here.

2025-03-09 13:56:39 +0000 UTCI get what you mean. I didn't say the scene they cut was irrelevant, I meant that's it's relevance was not hugely significant. Personally I think they can still add in that scene of Goto recalling Jinwoo later despite not having shown him getting spooked. My point is that I think they deliberately cut that shot to lessen the blow of the power difference between Jinwoo and Goto visually, since narration and dialog wise we still did get Goto being impressed/thrown off/surprised that a hunter like Jinwoo existed yet didn't join the raid. They can always do that throwback despite not having that manga scene animated in. While it does dampen the visual experience a little, it doesn't take anything away from the overall narration is my point. (I can't elaborate my thoughts further without getting into spoilers so I'll stop here 😅)

That was meant to show the very wide difference between Goto and Jinwoo to the point that Goto was shaken to his core. It sets up the hierarchy of how Korea matches up with Japan which is important to a later plot point. Additionally, when he recalls his fight, it further highlights the similarity of Jinwoo with what he was facing at the time. Which then circles back to Jinwoo and his evolution.

2025-03-09 13:16:14 +0000 UTCYou reaction to the cliffhanger was just as impressive as the cliffhanger itself LMAO xDD The point of showing Jinwoo staying back and leaving the raid to the other S-ranks is because he was sure they had it in the bag, as you said. It is also because neither Jinwoo nor the other hunters factored in any unknown variables like that fighter ant (they likely didn't feel the need to since the ant seemed to have hatched only a day or so prior to the raid starting). I think the anime teased that shift in tone quite well as a setup for next episode. As for this arc being similar to HxH, execution-wise it probs is but there's a very plot relevant reason why we got killer ants in SL so just be patient with it, we'll get there^^ A tiny scene in the manhwa that was cut from the anime during Jinwoo x Goto fight, Goto gets a glimpse of the darkness inside Jinwoo and is spooked by it but they don't show that in the anime. Many manhwa fans were not happy with that cut but the more I watch the anime, I think they purposefully took out that scene to not make Goto look less impressive than Jinwoo (since he's meant to be Japan's strongest S-rank, and we've not established Jinwoo as Korea's strongest just yet). Also the scene in the manhwa didn't have a significant plot relevance other than a tiny part where Goto recalls his fight with Jinwoo. It was more to showcase Jinwoo's aura which the anime has already done (and doing) in other areas. I personally didn't think it was that bad of a cut but ig there are those that disagree. And yes, Ma Dongwook (the big hunter dude) is indeed voiced by Dimple sama's VA. He's also All For One from MHA. It's so weird hearing All For One play this giant teddy bear of a guy in SL xDD
