Korra 4x13 FULL REACTION! (SERIES FINALE)

No better way to end the series with Varrick and Zhu Li doing the thing!

Korra 4x13 FULL REACTION! (SERIES FINALE)

Comments

You missed all the signs, they had to hide it back then. Them spending a lot of time together S3 > Last ep of S3, Asami there for you "or anything" > The letters > the blush in Ep7 > bringing her Tea > the finale is them just starting to explore the romance, first hesitant moment. Think of it as the first date.

Smoolio

Good final. Season 2 Imo korra is meh and taints it. Its got some cool characters and cool moments tho. Hard to complete with original.

Fire Cape

I waited a week for this, just realized they had released it last week xD

Laureano Oliva

people dont just dislike zutara cuz its not canon, they dislike zutara cuz to ship them you need to jump through heaps and bounds to change who they are as characters. the mischaracteration that zutara shippers do all the time is nuts

Mathies

Regardless of your personal opinion on the writing, the fact is that cait and Vi's relationship (as well as other animated sapphic ships like lumity and catradora) probably wouldn't exist in the way it does without korrasami paving the way against censorship.

Amber Foley

Hey now, don’t blame Korrasami for the mess that is CaitVI. 😂

Graham

keep in mind - when this finale was first released, the times were very different in what was "allowed" to be shown in media. The nickolodeon creators weren't even able to show a korrasami kiss at the end in fear of the episode not being aired; so they had to keep things ambiguous / able to have the benefit of the doubt. But this was quite monumental for its time when it came out. Korrasami walked so CaitVi could run haha

Yara

Jesus Christ, the dad is dead!

Douglas Kelley

Korrasami was actually quite bold for the time and they had as much foreshadowing as they were able, but I do agree it could’ve been written better. Mako is soooo underrated he gets too much hate I love him.

Molly

Well he is dating Wu and I’m only half joking

Molly

glad y’all enjoyed the show! was a lot of fun watching again. i actually think tlok is better on rewatch, less expectations going in and you don’t have to feel hung up on the things that don’t work the greatest. if y’all are looking for another animated option down the road that is in a similar vein as atla and tlok, i’d highly recommend “she-ra and the princesses of power”. no cap an incredibly good show. its target is a similar demographic to atla and kind of follows a similar vibe, slower and goofier to start but starts getting real pretty quickly. personally i think its better than tlok and in the same tier as atla, but it hasn’t gotten much love in the reaction circles yet. i’m holding out hope. 😆

the reason the korra/asami relationship felt so flat is because of nickelodeon censorship. The writers wanted to have their relationship grow in a more obviously romantic direction, but due to the time period (gay marriage wasn't even legalised in the US yet when this released) that little bit of hand-holding was all they were allowed to put in, and even that was after a fight for it. Nowadays Korra and Asami holding hands is seen as a huge stepping stone for the portrayal of gay relationships in western animated media. without them caitvi never would have happened

I watched LoK with my boyfriend when it first came out, we had watched Avatar growing up and re-watched the series. Neither of us cared much for the romance, aside from Varrick/Zhu Li so it was a little grueling, especially waiting weekly to only enjoy some of the episode. It's been almost 10 years since we watched LoK, we thought it was okay, not as bad as a lot of other viewers. Re-watching it with you guys was enjoyable, my (now) husband looked forward to when you guys dropped episodes. I was able to look past the issues I had with the romance to appreciate the characters and plot more. I was looking for hints of Korra/Asami to see how I felt by the end, but also really evaluating how organic everything came across relationship wise. They were awkward teens, Korra was very sheltered - it makes sense she put her foot in her mouth so often. edit: cause i accidentally posted too soon. I liked the series a lot more on our re-watch. You guys actually made me enjoy Eska/Desna/Bolin, they entertained me when they were on screen. I find it a bit sad how optimistic Korra was at the start of the series compared to how she spent most of the series. She gets beat down a lot, and I think it makes sense as we know how strong avatars can be, but that strength can't be the answer to all her problems without it being a plot get out of jail free card. I did really enjoy the bending a lot in LoK. It was so creative, and well choreographed. The faster paced bending keeps you on your toes, and the supportive/tag team bending was always so delightful. Ming-Hua was terrifying but brilliantly designed, and her "disability" felt empowering. The lava bending and tech was a brilliant addition, it really expanded the world in a creative way - how the world is progressing even beyond what the main characters [LoK + Avatar] see - both in what you can do with tech but also the raw elements. I don't think the creators wanted this to be Team Avatar's kid's stories, but they did want to acknowledge them in this world. I love the role models they were and how they impacted those around them. They had character flaws but they weren't swept under the rug, the main characters had to come to terms with them and accept or reject them. I think LoK is a different kind of story compared to Avatar, and for some people that's okay, and for others its not. LoK isn't trying to be what Avatar was, it was using the same world and some of the same characters to tell something completely different.

SoraNC

If you look back Korra only wrote Asami back when she was healing in the north pole. I kind of like it, but I still think korrlin would have been amazing if makko didn't ruin it

Martin Beckerle

Oh really? What the heck, maybe I’ll look for them this weekend after all in that case. Thanks for the push!

Leah

@Leah You should read the comics. They are pretty short. A quick read if you have the time.

@Mathies I am sure shippers would be shipping them together if they were male/female, but they would do that if they are same sex as well. Personally, I am not a fan of shipping if it isn't canon. I am sure there are others like me. See all the people who don't like Zutara. I don't like that ship either. I also really dislike the Mako Asami Korra love triangle in the first two seasons and that was heteronormative too. Anyway, this is an old discussion. Every time someone criticizes Korra Asami there is always someone saying the criticism is only because they are gay. Even though there is plenty of criticism for all the straight ships and romances in the two series.

Naqib _

Yeah the Korrasami is an interesting case. I was somewhat following LoK when it came out so I remember seeing all the ways it was held back by Nickelodeon at the time with its release schedule, budget cuts and online=only jail, and the inclusion of the relationship at the end pretty much explains it. On my first watch, I didn’t notice it so I was also surprised at the end - but I’ve also seen active threads & conversations at the time where fans had started speculating about it happening before the last episode dropped (and going back you can see very subtle moments from about mid-season 3 and onward, like Korra blushing for a moment when Asami compliments her when they reunite) so there is enough of *something* there. Arguably it’s also the very, very beginning of their relationship so there doesn’t need to be anything huge… but because it’s the end of the series and they want to call back to Atla, they have to cap it off the same way too. It ends up being a big moment because of how groundbreaking it was outside of the universe of the show, but within the story itself it’s a lot smaller and ends up feeling disjointed if you aren’t aware of all the news surrounding the show at the time. I ultimately like the inclusion of it though, and those following the comics sound like they’re very happy with how it developed. With the announcement of the new series (just yesterday, wow!) and the follow-up Korra comics that apparently explore the relationship a lot more, I wonder if they’ll include any of the story material/relationship exploration. The Korra writers did try to avoid a lot of that re: AtlA but it might be nice for those who only watched the shows (like me).

Leah

i really disagree that it was poorly done. it didnt come out of nowhere for me AT ALL. theres the build up of their relationship all throughout the last 2 seasons and if they were male & female, people would 100% be shipping them already after that. they spent so much time together season 3 and asami was always there for korra. to say it came out of nowhere comes from heteronormative society making us assume every same sex relationship you see in media is platonic by default. In 2014 especially there was no way it was even possible to make it more clear and overt than it was. Arguably Korrasami is a big reason why caitvi were able to be so much more explicit on screen and have a good build up 10 years later.

Mathies

lol

Naqib _

happy 20th anniversary of Avatar: the Last Airbender!! such a cool timing to finish the series and they announced the new one yesterday!

Season 4 being your favorite season is a completely fair and respectable take even though season 3 is my favorite. I like season 3 more mainly because I thought Zaheer and the red lotus were cooler villains. It's really nice to hear people say that Legend of Korra was a good sequel. Too many people hate on it for unfair reasons. It wasn't just a lazy cashgrab. They had new stories to tell and they tried new things and I commend them for it. Zhurrick is the absolute standout romance in this show. I thoroughly enjoyed you guys rooting for them so much. The Bolin Opal romance was kind of good. The Kai and Jinora romance seems like it was kind of forgotten. It seems the reason was they couldn't afford to pay Kai's voice actor to record lines. So his story was sidelined near the end of the series. I was sad when I found out about it. The most controversial bit here is the hinted Korra Asami relationship towards the end. Now there are two takes on this. One is that, when this show aired, it was very controversial to show a gay romance on a tv show, especially an animation that the publishers and parents would complain is aimed at kids. Including the Korra Asami relationship was kind of a political statement by the writers. I think they also wanted to show them kiss but there was some higher up who didn't let them or something. Now that is a noble intention, but the second take here is that, it wasn't really done well. If we remove the intentions of the political stance, it is as poorly written as the Mako Korra and Mako Asami relationships. It kind of just comes out of nowhere. So I do agree with your guys' take on this as well.

Naqib _

He takes it pretty well for a guy whose ex girlfriends are dating each other.

K

Korra and Asami as a couple in the comics that follow the show ☺️ it's actually a wholesome relationship.

poisonivybag

Mako must’ve been a pretty bad experience for both of them 💀

Carlie & Ange

What a journey it has been. I know Korra has it's flaws but I enjoyed watching it again with yall. I am surprised with how well it stood up after all these years. Imagine what would have happened if the showrunners had actual support from the studio lol.

A. Saffari

I liked season 4 but season 3 is still my favorite

Maya Coleman

Hey carlie and ange I just wanted to say that I had a great time going on this journey with you guys it was fun overall I liked the series but avatar was ultimately still unbeatable for me but I agree with you guys point on the whole korra and asami thing I would have loved more build up and varrick and zhu li are one of my favorite ships along with opal and bolin

Maya Coleman

korra and asami had enough so they become gay

Jeff

Just wanted to say the creators wanted to end Korra the same way they did with atla, with the kiss and everything, but at that time Nickelodeon wouldn't allow it so that's why they are just holding hands. Besides that their relationship is more developed and explored in the books

Alba

KorraSami walked so CaitVi could have that prison scene 😂
